You do live in a giant tinder box. Did you get any rain at all this spring?

A little, very late in the season. It brought enough grass to avoid the sandstorms of last spring, but nothing else.

Not that it's any of my business, being a Brit and all, but it does kind of seem as though you folks would be defeating the object somewhat to go through all that struggle to gain independence from us only then to blow yourselves up with whatever ordnance you can buy, make or otherwise cook up.

Your right, it isn't.

Fair enough, blow yourself up with my blessing then. [:)]

Yes, the 20th Maine with a few unhappy 'volunteers' from another Maine regiment.............I'm not sure which one but what Chamberlain did was against all the rules of warfare as they were known at that time and he beat seven bells of crap out of the Alabama regiment opposing him.
Thank the gods that wars aren't fought like that any more. I toured the battlefield there many years ago and yes, it was very sad and very moving.

Did you happen to watch the "Gettysburg" movie that came out a couple years ago, and if so, I'm wondering whether what you're referring to above got portrayed accurately? or whether it was just touched upon?
Btw, the fireworks show last night was spectacular and lasted longer than it had last year. [sm=cheerleader.gif]

Yes, Gettysburg was uncommonly well researched. If he is talking about the part of the battle I think he is it was a pivotal moment in the battle.

Thanks, and that was an engrossing movie, which I should get to watch again and to add to my DVD library. [sm=smile.gif]

The charge in defense of Little Round Top. What would be the point of a Gettysburg movie if they didn't get the moment that won the battle right?

I believe that is what I said.
Although many feel that Gettysburg was won at Chancellorsville .

Fires are a part of the natural process and it seems like California is always on fire. The Doors even sang about it...

We have our share up here as well though, two of my favorite areas have wild fires near them

How about the fact that the battles of Gettysburg and Antetm were part of the CIVIL WAR not the REVOLUTION.

Lee never had another subordinate like Jackson that is for sure but it is hard to understate the importance of holding Little Round Top that day or the audacity of a Union regiment trying a bayonet charge into Confederate forces. Capturing almost the entire Alabama 15th (? IIRC) collapsed that flank of the assault on the hill and effectively ended the attack.

True, however if Jackson had been there the battle would have been much different and may not even have been fought.
Also some experts believe that Lee had a heart attack a day or two before the battle which would have, if true, have affected things.
Interesting as this is we should move back to things more directly related to the op.
With that in mind (and for no other reason) I will hereby cease to discuss the War of Northern Aggression.

We just had our Canada day a few days ago so it's more like a happy week than a happy day

That's one of the cool things about living along the border. On the 1st, a large bunch of Americans cross the border to help you celebrate and then, three days later a large group of Canadians cross the border to help us celebrate. I could give you a speech about international friendship, yada, yada, yada, but I think people just like drinking bear, scarfing grilled hot dogs and watching fireworks.

Well, some of us look for any excuse to celebrate. Wouldn't it be nice if everyone were like that? [sm=wave.gif]
