I am not sure what this has to do with anything that I said... So what if Saddam Hussein had some socialist policies? The United States has some "socialist" policies. Do you suffer from confirmation bias to such a high degree that you want to point out that there is a baddie who happens to have enacted some socialist policies? Can you say ideologue?

With that said, calling Saddam Hussein a socialist is not completely accurate. Sure, the founders of the Baath Party, Michel Aflaq and Salah al-Bitar, had some very leftist ideas. But these men were only leaders of the Ba'ath Party in name, nominal leaders, who never capitalized on their influence. Instead, it would be strong men like Hafez al-Assad and Saddam Hussein who took power, men who albeit were leftist, were first and foremost, ardent nationalists. To put things into perspective, Saddam's view on border patrol is closer to that of a U.S. conservative, his view on defense, closer to that of a U.S. conservative, his view on dealing with potential "national security" threats, closer to that of a U.S. conservative.

Although, "U.S. conservative" is also inaccurate. There are many U.S. conservatives who care strongly about preserving individual rights and liberty--and would stand against such draconian measures as were enacted under the Bush and Obama administrations.
