Yeah, I agree pain as a taste is the most convincing argument I've ever heard for some sexuality being hardwired.
A lot the rest can be learned. That said, I've spanked many a vanilla ass, but in retrospect, usually not all that hard.
People have more options today in meeting up in a straightforward manner with everything on the table via the internet than I ever dreamed of while young. And yet it's still a mess -sort of like how cable TV was supposed to herald a new era of people watching community board meetings on tv and being more involved in politics.
