Bachmann Says She Might Seek Presidency in 2016

Though set to retire from the U.S. House after her term expires at the end of this year, Michele Bachmann may not be done with electoral politics.

The Minnesota congresswoman and 2012 Republican presidential candidate told RealClearPolitics on Tuesday that she is considering a second White House run.

Bachmann made the revelation during an interview, in which she was asked for her view on whether any Republican women might seek the Oval Office in 2016.

“The only thing that the media has speculated on is that it’s going to be various men that are running,” she replied. “They haven’t speculated, for instance, that I’m going to run. What if I decide to run? And there’s a chance I could run.”

I think you will have a pretty big herd wanting the GOP nomination, and a lesser herd running for the Dem nomination.

And I doubt any of them are gonna be 'That candidate is so electable', but the GOP got no shot at electable, far as I can see.

Isn't she still under investigation for the stuff she did during her 2012 campaign? The last I heard she was facing serious charges.

*looks at the Presidential candidate lineup from the Democrat Party*

*looks at the Presidential candidate lineup from the Republican Party*

*realizes just how fucked we are as a nation and a society, if we can't come up with anything better than a power-hungry lawyer with a trail of highly questionable (and in some cases, prosecutable) conduct behind her, and a collection of utter nutbags from the party that brought you such hits as the "Magic Rape-Resistant Vagina"*

It is a sad state of affairs when we no longer have to choose who is the best person for the job. Instead we have the lesser of two evils.

Or, in the case of Mrs. Clinton vs Mrs. Bachmann, between an evil and an embarrassment.

Dear Democrats: stop it with the "we're for the little people" bullshit. It would be somewhat believable if half of Congress weren't multi/millionnaires. Sorry, it's hard to hear your concern over the sound of your Learjet's engines.

Dear Republicans: the next time any of you thinks about saying anything regarding abortion, women's rights, or the LGBT community, just punch yourselves in the face instead. Twice.

Can we get a VIABLE 3rd party going at some point? Or will it take a near-collapse of the current system?

Bachmann Says She Might Seek Presidency in 2016

Never gonna happen.

She may well run, but there's a large field, and despite their public insanity, party leaders know Bachmann is genuinely batshit crazy and can't get elected in an national race.

Craziest Michele Bachmann Quotes

(1) BACHMANN WARNED ‘THE LION KING’ WAS GAY PROPAGANDA: At the November 2004 EdWatch National Education Conference, Bachmann said the “normalization” of homosexuality would lead to “desensitization”: “Very effective way to do this with a bunch of second graders, is take a picture of ‘The Lion King’ for instance, and a teacher might say, ‘Do you know that the music for this movie was written by a gay man?’ The message is: I’m better at what I do, because I’m gay.”

(2) BACHMANN CLAIMED ABOLISHING THE MINIMUM WAGE WOULD CREATE JOBS: While testifying in front of the Minnesota Senate in 2005, Bachmann said, “Literally, if we took away the minimum wage — if conceivably it was gone — we could potentially virtually wipe out unemployment completely because we would be able to offer jobs at whatever level.” This isn’t remotely true. Even simply reducing the minimum wage would, as Paul Krugman noted, “at best do nothing for employment; more likely it would actually be contractionary.”

(3) BACHMANN CLAIMED THAT SCIENTISTS ARE SUPPORTERS OF INTELLIGENT DESIGN: During a 2006 debate, Bachmann said, “There are hundreds and hundreds of scientists, many of them holding Nobel Prizes, who believe in intelligent design.” This was, and is, not true.

(4) BACHMANN CLAIMED TERRI SCHIAVO WAS ‘HEALTHY’: Not long after Terri Schiavo died, Bachmann said she would have voted for the Palm Sunday Compromise because Schiavo “was healthy. She had brain damage — there was brain damage, there was no question. But from a health point of view, she was not terminally ill.” An autopsy found that Schiavo had suffered irreversible brain damage and her brain, said the medical examiner, was “profoundly atrophied.”

(5) BACHMANN LIKENED VISITING IRAQ TO VISITING MALL OF AMERICA: In 2007, Bachmann returned from a junket to Iraq and told her colleagues, “[T]here’s a commonality with the Mall of America, in that it’s on that proportion. There’s marble everywhere. The other thing I remarked about was there is water everywhere.” As ThinkProgress documented at the time, the comparison was preposterous.

(6) BACHMANN CLAIMED THAT CARBON DIOXIDE IS ‘HARMLESS’: In 2008, a Stanford scientist revealed “direct links” between increased levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and “increases in human mortality” — globally, he found that as many as “20,000 air-pollution-related deaths per year per degree Celsius may be due to this greenhouse gas.” The next year, Bachmann, who is not a scientist, said that “carbon dioxide is portrayed as harmful. But there isn’t even one study that can be produced that shows that carbon dioxide is a harmful gas.”

(7) BACHMANN CALLED FOR A CONGRESSIONAL WITCH HUNT: Pivoting off the news of Barack Obama’s alleged relationship to former Weather Underground member William Ayers, and his former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Bachmann accused the candidate of having “anti-American views.” She then suggested that Congressional liberals — including Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid — ought to be subject to “an exposé” by the media because of their views. “I think people would love to see like that,” she told a stunned Chris Matthews.

(8) BACHMANN SUGGESTED GAY SINGER SHOULD REPENT AFTER GETTING CANCER: Bachmann saw Melissa Etheridge’s cancer as a teachable moment: “Unfortunately she is now suffering from breast cancer, so keep her in your prayers,” she said in November 2004. “This may be an opportunity for her now to be open to some spiritual things, now that she is suffering with that physical disease. She is a lesbian.”

(9) BACHMANN BOASTED ABOUT BREAKING THE LAW: In advance of the 2010 national Census, Bachmann told The Washington Times that she would break the law by not completing the forms. “I know for my family, the only question we will be answering is how many people are in our home,” she said. “We won’t be answering any information beyond that, because the Constitution doesn’t require any information beyond that.”

(10) BACHMANN CLAIMED THAT GLENN BECK COULD SOLVE THE DEBT CRISIS: During a February trip to South Carolina, Bachmann told a South Carolina audience, “I think if we give Glenn Beck the numbers, he can solve this [the national debt].”

1."I don't know how much God has to do to get the attention of the politicians. We've had an earthquake; we've had a hurricane. He said, 'Are you going to start listening to me here?' Listen to the American people because the American people are roaring right now. They know government is on a morbid obesity diet and we've got to rein in the spending." –Rep. Michele Bachmann, suggesting at a presidential campaign event in Florida that the 2011 East Coast earthquake and hurricane was a message from God (Aug. 2011)

2. "Well what I want them to know is just like, John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa. That's the kind of spirit that I have, too" -Rep. Michele Bachmann, getting her John Waynes mixed up during an interview after launching her presidential campaign in Waterloo, Iowa, where she grew up. The beloved movie star John Wayne was born in Winterset, Iowa, three hours away. The John Wayne that Waterloo was home to is John Wayne Gacy, a notorious serial killer. (June 2011)

3. "Our movement at its core is an intellectual movement." --Rep. Michele Bachmann on the Tea Party movement, CPAC conference, March 2014

Michele Bachmann, recalling in a 2006 speech at a Megachurch in Minneapolis that pursuing tax law wasn't her choice, but she did so at the urging of her husband because she was certain God was speaking through him

I'm not blaming this on President Obama, I just think it's an interesting coincidence." -Rep. Michele Bachmann, on the 1976 Swine Flu outbreak that happened when Gerald Ford, a Republican, was president, April 28, 2009

8. "Carbon dioxide is portrayed as harmful. But there isn't even one study that can be produced that shows that carbon dioxide is a harmful gas." -Rep. Michelle Bachmann, April, 2009

9. "I will tell you that I had a mother last night come up to me here in Tampa, Florida, after the debate. She told me that her little daughter took that vaccine, that injection, and she suffered from mental retardation thereafter." –Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), on the HPV vaccine, Fox News interview, Sept. 12, 2011

10. "But we also know that the very founders that wrote those documents worked tirelessly until slavery was no more in the United States. ... I think it is high time that we recognize the contribution of our forbearers who worked tirelessly -- men like John Quincy Adams, who would not rest until slavery was extinguished in the country." -Rep. Michele Bachmann, botching American history while speaking at an Iowan's for Tax Relief event in January 2011. The Founding Fathers did not work to end slavery, and John Quincy Adams was not one of the Founding Fathers.

Bonus quotes:

"Before we get started, let's all say 'Happy Birthday' to Elvis Presley today." -Rep. Michele Bachmann, while campaigning for president in South Carolina on what was actually the anniversary of Elvis's death, Aug. 16, 2011 (Elvis was born on January 8)

"The thing that I think that is getting a little tiresome is, the gay community thinks that they've so bullied the American people and they so intimidated politicians that politicians fear them, and so they think that they get to dictate the agenda everywhere." -Rep. Michelle Bachmann, CPAC conference, March 2014

"I was very proud of the fact that I didn't get anything wrong that I said during the course of the debates." -Rep. Michele Bachmann on her performance in the 2012 Republican presidential debates

Offered in no particular order, some of Michele Bachmann's most amazing moments:

I haven't purposely been trying to be inflammatory. I'm trying to just explain to the American people what's happening here in Washington, D.C.

Literally, if we took away the minimum wage—if conceivably it was gone—we could potentially virtually wipe out unemployment completely because we would be able to offer jobs at whatever level.

If you look at FDR, LBJ, and Barack Obama, this is really the final leap to socialism [...] they’re trying to consolidate power, so we need to do everything we can to thwart them at every turn to make sure that they aren’t able to, for all time, secure a power base that for all time can never be defeated.

The news media should do a penetrating expose and take a look. I wish they would, I wish the American media would take a great look at the views of the people in Congress and find out are they are pro-America or anti-America.

Michele Bachmann

It's an urban legend that was created. That isn't what I said at all.
[Note: She was answering a question about whether she had actually said the previous quote.]

The real concerns is that there are provisions for what I would call re-education camps for young people, where young people have to go and get trained in a philosophy that the government puts forward and then they have to go to work in some of these politically correct forums.

MSNBC

Absolutely, I'm very concerned that [Barack Obama] may have anti-American views.

I think the people that Barack Obama has been associating with are anti-American, by and large.

The imams, the imams were actually attending, ah, Congressman Keith Ellison's victory celebration, when he won as a member of Congress. And the imams went to the Minneapolis airport to leave and go home. While they were there, they were shouting phrases anti-Bush, anti-America and they laid their prayer shawls--er, their prayer rugs out on the floor in the airport terminal, were having their prayers, and um, were making these statements and when they got aboard the airplane, they switched seats, they didn't go to their proper seats, and they went in the pattern of the nine-one-one uh, um, terrorists who were on the airplanes, and they all asked for seatbelt extenders on their seats, in the airplane, and these weren't large people. So, uh, there were people on the airplane that became very nervous about these public displays and they alerted the airplane authorities, and so, these six imams were taken off of the airplane. Well, the imams ended up suing everyone on the plane, the whistleblowers, and they said that their civil rights were violated. So that's been a big mess, that case, and I don't, I'm not sure, but I don't believe that that's been resolved yet.
link

Nothing scares members of Congress more than freedom-loving Americans.
link

Well, President Obama is trying to bind the United States into a global economy where all of our nations come together in a global economy. I don’t want the United States to be in a global economy where, where our economic future is bound to that of Zimbabwe. I can’t, we can’t necessarily trust the decisions that are being made financially in other countries. [...] so I think clearly this is a very bad direction because when you join the economic policy of different nations, it is one short step to joining political unity and then you would have literally, a one world government...I don’t want to cede United States authority to a transnational organization.

What I want them to know is just like John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa, that's the spirit that I have too. It's really about not being ashamed of America. It's embracing America.

That’s what I spent my whole year doing was talking about this issue of what the OIC was trying to do with their ten year plan and all of these efforts in the Obama administration. The only conclusion you could make is that they are embracing the ten year plan and are supporting it and that’s why this October 19 document is so important because that is proof positive that every piece that is put into place is leading to one direction, this isn’t deviating it’s leading to one direction, and that ultimate goal it seems to be is to allow for mandating, following, every demand of the Islamist and we know what their ultimate demand is.

I'm not saying that that's what the Administration is planning to do, but I am saying that private personal information that was given to the Census Bureau in the 1940s was used against Americans to round them up, in a violation of their constitutional rights, and put the Japanese in internment camps.

Also with women politicians, [Democrats] want to make sure no women, no woman becomes president before a Democrat woman, and so they're doing everything they can to, I think, sabotage women like Sarah Palin, perhaps women like myself, or similarly situated women, to make sure that we don't have a prominent national voice.

The liberals, and to be clear I’m NOT one of them, want you to think the Tea Party is the Right Wing of the Republican Party. But it’s not. It’s made up of disaffected Democrats, independents, people who’ve never been political a day in their life, libertarians, Republicans. But what people recognize is that there's a fear that the United States is in an unstoppable decline. They see the rise of China, the rise of India, the rise of the Soviet Union and our loss militarily going forward. And especially with this very bad debt ceiling bill, what we have done is given a favor to President Obama and the first thing he'll whack is five hundred billion out of the military defense at a time when we're fighting three wars.

Obama has to go and has to be replaced, but not just by anyone. We need someone who is committed to taking that [Obamacare] out, because it is the crown jewel of socialism, and if it’s allowed to stand we will never get our country back.

I take my first political breath every morning with one thought in mind -- repeal Obamacare. That's my motivation in life. This bill is something else. It is the crown jewel of socialism. President Obama, and I'm willing to say it, ushered in socialism under his watch...my opinion is we can't shut this president down fast enough.

Bachmann Says She Might Seek Presidency in 2016

I'm with you, Lucy. I hope she runs.

She'll fail spectacularly, imo. But, a humiliating loss might be her thing, and just might open her eyes a bit.

Well she won't ever be running for pres., she will be running for the repub nomination, will create a few hundred temp. jobs, receive no money from corporate america, the banks or wall street, will get her butt kicked pretty quick and finally...finally go home from whence we shall hear from her...nevermore.

It is a sad state of affairs when we no longer have to choose who is the best person for the job. Instead we have the lesser of two evils.

Someone's "best person" is an other's "worst person." We vote from personal interest and emotion.

Sometimes the winner may be both "best" and "worst." GW was the best man for the job when the Twin Towers were attacked. He became the worst man for the job after he made a left turn and attacked Iraq . . imo.

Oh please, GW could just as well been impeached for incompetence if not for his complicity in 9/11 if only because he showed himself to be the ignorant, pompous redneck that he was. Add to that turning a hard right in going to Iraq that showed him to be the perfect useful idiot of the neocons that he was.

What may be the basis for the downfall of the American creed and shining example, is the very selective and partisan, cynical disbelief in govt., only ...when it suits them.

I'm sure it wouldn't hurt her future speaking fees, and Lord knows a certain sort of sucker will be very responsive to Democrat fundraising emails about it. Other sorts will just have to content themselves with throwing rocks.

Can I suggest you be careful what you wish for, though? We may have a 2016 season where no Dem has a hope in hell of winning the White House.

Dear Republicans: the next time any of you thinks about saying anything regarding abortion, women's rights, or the LGBT community, just punch yourselves in the face instead. Twice.

Or maybe you could punch yourself in the face, twice, and give a listen when some of us do just that. You're likely to be surprised.

I would LOVE to have a viable 3rd party that actually had a real chance of winning.
We need big changes and we need them soon.
I hate to say this, but I do think it's going to take a near-collapse of the current system.

Unfortunately, you may be right and she'll end up pining for a 1/2 hour or a way overpaid segment on Fox.
