The higher the death rate, the less likely you can have a pandemic. The lower the death rate, the longer people linger, increasing the opportunities for transmission. Having said that, Ken is right that there is no aerosolized means of transmission. Some real people, CDC/WHO, have warned mutations could happen. Could doesn't mean will. But it's a concern. Law of large numbers. Millions of infected would mean far more opportunities for Ebola to "hit the jackpot." Evolution in action.
