Virtual Private Network.

Let me explain in clear English: say you work for a company and they want you to be able to see their private Intranet (not Internet) files and work privately within their system. So without getting into technical detail, it's a network that is cut off (sometimes imperfectly because you can "tunnel into" them) other outside, public networks. It's a company's "own Internet" so to speak. If you work for someone and you have to "logon" to the company's network with a password and such (in the old days, it was dial-in), you're probably looking at a VPN. This is not 100% accurate technically, but I think it's close enough for your purposes.

Run this one first. Fairly intuitive software. Do the updates on install. Scans do not take a ton of time depending on the speed of your machine. Fix as needed.

Trend Microsystems Housecall: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

I like online anti-virus programs because they tend to be updated very frequently as opposed to regular anti-virus software which usually updates about once a week. They are no substitute for a good, solid anti-virus installed on your computer. If you already have an AV installed, you may have to disable it to run Housecall.

Make certain that your Windows Updates are current.

Run both of these scans, and see what they might find. I have had great success with both of these programs. Malwarebytes is another decent one although I don't use it normally.

I'm highly illiterate with computers, and the mechanics of these things is not something that interests me. Just personal taste. To each their own.

But, my question really was, although I didn't state it in this way, is how unusual is this; and I think I have the answer in that this sort of thing could come from various sources.

Does "a couple of years back" mean late 2012? Because, if so, your machines may have been recruited to the itsoknoproblembro botnet, which primarily attacked through SA IPs during that time.

If you can't fix this problem by running antimalware and antivirus software, it's worth paying someone with a background in security to look at your machine. Think of it like identity theft: if you see a 1 cent purchase you never made, maybe it's nothing to be worried about, and maybe it's an indication that you are severely compromised.

In general, I'd be wary of free technical advice on a kink forum. The comment about HideMyAss was wildly false.

Don't worry about it....you're probably a commie and don't fully realize it.

Next time you go through customs, explain that your nefarious acts are funded by the Saudi's and explain further that oil exports are your main business.

Tell them you're personally responsible for 37% of the oil that flows into the U.S.

It'll work out.

Seriously, think this through logically. Why would any private computer on earth want a Saudi IP address? Saudi citizens use non-Saudi IPs, because if you use a Saudi IP, all kinds of sites are blocked, and you have download restrictions, even on the sites you're allowed to visit. There's exactly one reason for a UK computer to have a Saudi IP, and that is to zombify the computer. So I did a Google search on "botnets 2012" because the OP said a couple years ago, and sure enough, first link, Saudi IPs.

Your diagnostic skills will improve if you take the opportunity to see things more broadly. If you want to defend your current way of looking at things, instead of growing, that's your choice. But cutting an order to "relax" to someone who isn't your sub isn't a way to get better at anything.

Walking through airports requires strong bone structure.



It does in Amsterdam airport. Every time I go there it's to get a connecting flight to somewhere else and it always seems that where I get dropped off and where I have to get the connecting flight from are light years apart.

It's like running a marathon and I have to stop off and have at least two beers to get me through the journey.

DC,

I was only in the airport to get a connecting flight to Nashville.

There was me and two North African looking fellas detained in this room.

Thinking about it, I'd been stopped in Amsterdam (flight before connection to Washington) twice and been questioned to the point where they were asking the same questions in different ways trying to catch me out.

So, clearly there is international co-operation in these sorts of things and when my IP address was flagged up, the Americans got in touch with their counterparts in Amsterdam and made sure I was questioned.

It was a bit of a ball ache as we were at the front of the queue at passport control and could have been straight through with time for a beer. But, having been held a good hour it was pushing time to get the connection.

No problem with it though really as it's their country and if they're not happy with the people coming in can do as they please.

One thing the fella who checked my case did say is that we need to get the IT technical people down to check why you have a Saudi IP address, and I said: "fine, no bother". But, he pretty much said straight after forget it you can go through as if he was just trying to catch me out; which is why I thought the whole Saudi IP thing was just part of the routine they go through when someone has places like Israel and Oman stamped on the passport.

Turned out my computer really did have a Saudi IP address.

I'm trying to work out the year.

2014 we went to Scandinavia.

2013 we didn't go anywhere.

2012 - yes, US.

couple of things, I would also get some bloke here on this kink forum or there you know, that will show you how to shut down remote registry service and remote desktop and so on.

then get Comodo internet security, it is free, and when you install it, go to the ports wizard and make them invisible.

its an antivirus, its a firewall, its a floorwax, its a dessert topping.........

I'm fine with it really, Ron, it's not causing me a problem in terms of speed, was just curious as to how my computers could have a Saudi IP address.

If I go back to the US then clearly it would be wise to sort out the problem, but apart from that it's no bother.

Nobody just fucks with your IP and then does nothing else for a lark, sport. They got your number, they have done it to two.

what is your ip address? since it really isnt yours no harm no foul putting it here. or cmail me wif it.

The mere fact that your computer is showing a Saudi IP addy in the UK is definitely a cause for concern.

Now, if it was someone from this neck of the woods with knowledge of IT knowledge, and I'm not talking about some government conspiracy as I'm really not that important - the most I do is wash the pots and tidy the house when need arises - but, if it was someone from work with IT knowledge wanting to hack into my computer and see what I'm up to, and using that information, 'cause believe me there are a lot of politicians where I work, then that would be different.

But, it seems this is highly unlikely?
