I was looking at the official rules in the link provided by THB, and it says:

So, the winner gets an opportunity to attend a DNC event where they might get to "meet" Obama, but perhaps in the context of being in a receiving line and only shaking hands. It's not like they'd get the opportunity to sit down and have a nice, leisurely chat about national or world affairs.


I don't recall boo or anyone else saying that you would...can you tell me the Post number where that was said?

Thanks for the links, folks.

I noticed in the official rules and also on the donation-amount page that you don't actually have to contribute to enter and that doing so doesn't increase one's chances of winning.

I can see how this might seem a bit goofy or tacky, but I'm not sure it quite rises to pimping the President. But then, I've seen variations on this (lunch with the bishop, a behind-the-scenes tour of the Elephant House) in fundraisers for church and charity. Far more troubling to me are the bipartisan practices of awarding ambassadorships to big donors and "cashing in" on the office after leaving via rainmaker gigs at Carlyle or elsewhere and stratospheric lecture fees.

I like to think I'm even-handed enough that I'd view this the same way if the GOP had done it.

The venue--Garden City, NY--is where my maternal grandparents lived, so I'm keenly curious to know where in town the President will be.

They will no doubt collect a pile of cash, after all, it is only a few dollars, many will chip in on the off chance they win.
And on the backside the dems get to claim a groundswell of small donor support, the common folk, who felt compelled to help out no matter how small the amount they were able to contribute.
