Yep, since a securities and exhange ruling forced the Bell system to break up there is no ONE source for addresses.

Since SBC took over AT&T they quit supporting phone books. Where Verizon is the local carrier; you want to look at www.superpages.com This applies to GTE local networks too since Verizon bought them out around the turn of the century

I'm not really saying that they "should" be that easy to find. What prompted me to start the topic is how I constantly hear about how EASY it is for people to find out extremely personal information about people.....when I can't even find a simple address.

So your Google Fu is weak. That's not the fault of the internet.

Any suggestions on how to look up someones address without having to pay for it?

Ok. 101. Whitepages.com Put in the name, and the city (fullest name you have, and closest city you are sure of).

You should get a list of possibilities. Some of these will say "sponsored by." Skip those.

You want the results that have additional names/associated people to the right of the name itself (pay attention to those - if your target is good at keeping himself off the radar, the significant other might not be)

Click on the name of the person, and it should pop the address right up.

Now open a new window to the zip-code lookup on USPS.gov. Copy paste the address in so you can confirm you have a valid mailing address, and get the zip+4.

If you're of a mind to go stalking further, take the address to Google Earth and Street.

So endeth the simple lesson. After this, I'm going to have to bill you.
