Rich, to connect what you're saying to the topic: I think both parties have pushed moderates out; and not just at the "top" levels. I meet people that identify as Libertarian, all the time and there is no doubt (based upon my casual anecdotal observation) that people of both parties have gravitated towards us. Beyond that, though, there seems to be a major disconnect in how the message (of either side) gets out. I think, just the way that extremists express the ideas is part of the problem. I remember King George II being compared to Hitler and anyone that doesn't stroke Obummer's manhood is a racist. To be fair, I've seen the other side refer to anyone who doesn't agree with them as "un-American" or "pinkos". When I speak to other people in my party, there's still disagreement but the level of vitriol doesn't even come close to what I hear, coming from the far sides of the spectrum. I think this is caused not only by lack of good communication skills but I have come to believe that both sides' extremists indoctrinate their children (or acolytes, if you prefer) the same way that many religions do. I have come to see them all as the "religious assholes" we hear so much about around these parts. It's a shame because, at least most of the groups that I am willing to recognize as truly being religion, don't preach hate. That's reserved for extremists of every stripe; be they religious, political or, even our own "one twue way"ers. Screen captures (and pissing on shadows) still RULE! Ya feel me?
