FR

Medical misadventures kept me from following the Ferguson story in any detail.

So I'll respond to tonight's news by simply sharing two treasures from, yes, the Book of Common Prayer:

O God, you have bound us together in a common life. Help us,
in the midst of our struggles for justice and truth, to confront
one another without hatred or bitterness, and to work
together with mutual forbearance and respect; through Jesus
Christ our Lord. Amen.

O God, who created all peoples in your image, we thank you
for the wonderful diversity of races and cultures in this world.
Enrich our lives by ever-widening circles of fellowship, and
show us your presence in those who differ most from us, until
our knowledge of your love is made perfect in our love for all
your children; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Has it even occurred to you that, as many suggested at the outset, the grand jury has more information than we do?
Has it even occurred to you that Wilson could be innocent?
Does anything count to you beyond the fact that Wilson is white and Brown was black?

Oh come now, you are trying logic? We've seen that paranoid speculation is better than the possibility that the man was innocent of a crime.

I couldn't vote, there needs to be three more options:

Marshmallows
Hot Dogs
Smores

I wonder how they chose whose businesses to burn

This was all premeditated, primarily by Ferguson outsiders

A lot of lessons here

Rarely does a defendant ever testify at a grand jury hearing, but in this case Officer Wilson did, and it looks like his side of the story was persuasive in making a case for self defense

The truth usually is persuasive... what do you think? It is a shame that a death... even a justified one of a punk that though he could bully a police officer the same way he did a store clerk one half his size... had to be the incident to start needed change.

I do believe there needs to be a change in procedure when it comes to the use of deadly force... I do believe there needs to be change when it comes to representing the racial make up of a city on the police forces... I do believe there needs to be change in stop while black.

BUT

There also needs to be changes in the black community... Support and keep their children in school... Keep their children off the streets at night... Teach their children respect for the law... Cooperate with police in criminal investigations... Get out and vote... Show the same respect you demand from whites to yourselves and others.

Blacks in Ferguson should be ashamed of the actions of their supporters and brothers. I feel terrible for the father of Michael Brown who begged that his sons memory not be associated with rioting, burning, and looting. His son made a terrible choice but still the stealing of cigars should not have ended in his death... Yes there has to be change.. but for all... not just whites.

Butch

An officer with the University City Police Department in St. Louis was shot as protests in nearby Ferguson intensified Monday night, several media outlets reported.

The officer was transported to a nearby hospital, with a bullet wound to the arm, according to the St. Louis County Police Department. He's expected to make a full recovery. St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said in a press conference that the shooting "was totally unrelated to any events here in Ferguson."

The shooting occurred after 11 p.m. at Canton and Lamb avenues in the University City section of St. Louis, about five miles southwest from the crowds in Ferguson. Police were reportedly looking for a suspect early Tuesday.

well I know that:) just wanted to point out that he wasnt shot because of the riots.
I have a much less favourable attitude towards him than you do.

This should have been decided on a poll of nutty celebrities and rap stars... emotions matter more than reality and facts! c'mon man. Even El Presidente, Dear Leader, knows that! So does sharpton and other deranged leftists.

Be fair, Sanity. ElChupa has just joined the conversation, with his own, always enjoyable, point of view. If you can't distinguish between reason and lunacy by this point, you have no chance ever.

Do you think a "quota system" that makes the racial make up of a police force similar to the racial make up of the populace is a good idea? I sure don't. I wouldn't have a problem if it was exactly the same, or if it was skewed towards minorities. As long as the officers on the police force are qualified for the job, I pretty much don't care.

I just hope officers don't shy away from doing their jobs properly because the suspect is of a different race. That could end up just as poorly.

There is a great deal of evidence that LEO's that do not live in the communities they police treat those communities as an area to be occupied rather than a community to be protected. Ferguson, as all of St. Louis County, does not require its LEO's to reside in the communities they police. That is why a lot of people think police force should reflect the racial makeup of the communities they police.
