I was going to let this one go until I saw the last bits... quote:
ORIGINAL: FieryOpal Admittedly, I wouldn't really know.... But I will say this. Besides the usual stuff like maintaining your car in good running condition (not leaving empty drink & food cartons or bags in there or any other kind of messiness), being able to do the same for your gf's vehicle; I am currently in the process of replacing the middle and back end of my exhaust. This has involved cutting the studs off the catalytic converter because it was completely rusted. I bought a new exhaust from Ebay and saved over £600 from the manufacturers price. The wife doesn't drive (and is disabled) so it's down to me to fix anything on the car. quote:
ORIGINAL: FieryOpal keeping up with mowing the lawn, knowing how to do a thorough job weedwacking, being on top of shoveling snow off porches, sidewalks, and the driveway; I often do this but sometimes she gets a bee in her bonnet and does it herself if I'm busy doing something else. As for snow, we haven't had enough snow here for the last 7+ years to warrant getting a shovel out. A 1" flurry is the worst we've had in that time and it soon melted. quote:
ORIGINAL: FieryOpal knowing how to fix minor repairs without delay and without making things worse than they were before (which means calling in a professional and not being such a cheap bastard); I do most of the repairs here and I do a decent job of all of them, including decorating. I even had to re-wire one of the bathroom lights and install a separate pull-switch after the last handyman did a botched job. quote:
ORIGINAL: FieryOpal Learning how to cook, clean up after yourself, and do your own laundry, is HUGE. I am a better cook than the wife even though she does most of the cooking. My Chinese is to die for; I was taught by a genuine Chinese lady and her sister who lived in the mountains just outside of Beijing. These days, we (I) cook our own traditional style Chinese instead of having a take-out. quote:
ORIGINAL: FieryOpal Honorable mention if you can sew back on your own buttons and darn your own socks. I don't wear socks. It's been more than 2 decades since I last wore any. But I can darn! I used to make my own clothes many years ago. I'm the only one in the family that can sew anything - either by hand or with a machine. quote:
ORIGINAL: FieryOpal Some lucky gal will snatch you up and you won't be single long. My wife left her hubby of 15 years on a 1-way trip to be with me one Sunday morning. She has never looked back, not even once. We hadn't met or spoken on the phone or even had a pic of each other. The first time I heard her voice was when she changed trains in London. Been married 5 years now and couldn't be happier. quote:
ORIGINAL: FieryOpal P.S. I give bonus points if a single guy knows how to tend to an aquarium, responsibly care for pets, and clean up after a litterbox. :p We don't have cats but we do use a litter tray under the chipmunks' cage. I have done it at times when she has not been well but she insists on doing it. lol. We have fish tanks (one tropical and one marine) and I generally maintain them. That has included re-wiring light units into a different housing and building my own refugium. But, she likes to hand-feed the fish so I let her do that. ETA: In the old days when I was single and before the advent of most of the modern aquarium equipment, I built my own 2,000 gallon marine aquarium in my parents house. Those days the only decent pumps were from washing machines and I used household plumbing parts. The only way to clean it was to climb into it with trunks and snorkel. Those were the days!!!
