slvemike4u -> Keystone Pipeline....is it still viable (12/20/2014 7:53:31 AM)

Was reading an op-ed by Timothy Egan in todays NY Times in which he brought up what seems to me to be a pretty self evident point:
The Keystone pipeline is it still economically viable ?.With the price of oil plummeting would the new Keystone Pl make sense in todays market?
Opinions ?

mitch mcconnell has declared its going to be his "first" job when he takes over at the end of january, I have a feeling he is not gonna make it...there are too many issues fromt eh US AND canadian side

Yeah,that was pointed out in the op-ed...the question being is that the way the Republicans want to spend their political capitol on now ?
While oil plummets ?

Its viable if its used only for beating Vladimir Putin about the head and the neck, and making him cry like a little girl.

The price of a barrel of crude is currently doing a very good job of that Tom,sans the KeystoneII project
Where is the financial justification for going ahead with this project given the current market ?
I'll make it easy for you and supply the answer....there is none.
So add that fact to the ecological aspects and you got yourself a new bridge to nowhere.

Who is John ?

Is Tom wrong ?

If it is ,I apologise,I wasn't trying to be a wiseass there

I'm pretty obvious when I'm going for a laugh....that wasn't one of those times

According to TransCanada, the company behind the pipeline, the project is expected to create fewer than 2,000 temporary construction jobs for two years and just a handful of maintenance jobs after that. The exceptionally dirty oil that will be extracted from Alberta's tar sands and pumped through the pipeline will bring a lot of money to Canada and to multinational energy companies, but the oil itself will go to foreign countries, not to Americans.

these are facts that the "right" dont want americans to know
claiming it as a "jobs" bill is facetious but they are desperate.

slvemike4u -> RE: Keystone Pipeline....is it still viable (12/20/2014 9:10:56 AM)

Agreed.....but I have learned that there are many on that side of the aisle more than willing to trade in the facetious as long as it serves the interests of big oil and their crony's

For the same reason they do anything. It's become a fixation to them as a way to punish the Dems.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Keystone Pipeline....is it still viable (12/20/2014 12:51:31 PM)

I'm still wondering why they don't put the new XL pipeline along the same right of way as the existing Keystone for its entire length instead of just part of the way.

This would get it built faster and cheaper without as much environmental hand wringing (the route has been approved for a pipeline because there is one there) and hundreds of landowners would not have their constitutional rights violated by the governmental taking of private property for PRIVATE use as opposed to the constitutionally allowed public use.

This is a question that actual CONSERVATIVES who supposedly care about the constitution should be asking.
