Don't forget the second mantra..." No Justice No Profit" thus the die-ins at local merchandisers....as if shutting down shopping malls will make whites change their ways...another example of a failed, wrong, strategy that has an opposite result than its intent... real leaders are needed. This to go alone with blocking streets and highways... with little regard for the access of emergency vehicles. It is such a shame that needed discussions and perhaps solutions on race in America had to be instigated by a falsity... And the continued support of this falsity will only hold back needed change because of the backlash against the absurdity of this blind stance to something proven wrong. I hope that something good comes of this but I fear the way this all started will only set back race relations in the US at least for a short time. Maybe a leader will emerge that will redirect African American anger away from Michael Brown which has no substance, in the blame not the death of a young man, and towards the real problems in race relations. Now that blacks are united, no matter what the reason, real progress can come from this as long as the African Americans realize their part in the problems and are willing to make changes in attitude in the same way they are asking others to do. Lets be honest...again...big mistake on my part I know. When I talk to friends and discussions over the potbelly I hear the same things over and over. Why are blacks not protesting the killing of black children by other blacks... why do blacks make this kid an angel when he was a thief... why are blacks protesting court fees when all they have to do is not break the law.... why don't blacks understand they are pulled over more than whites because they are committing most of the crime. Why must we take in black kids in our schools, when theirs lose accreditation when it is hard enough to support our own. Why do blacks disregard the fears of whites when crime rises in their neighborhoods from black crime? But to their credit I also hear... Why did he shoot that boy six or seven times to kill even if he was resisting arrest...Why didn't the police engage the community in ways to stop this from happening again... without the need for protests...Why is there such a disparity in minority representation on police departments. Why is it so hard for young black men to find employment. Why can't the state of Missouri get the local school districts accredited. I really hear the following a LOT...I have black friends who tell me they are against the protesters in Ferguson and they are ashamed of them... but they understand the frustration. And best of all... I hear many saying they believe there is still racism and want to see change... but invariably... they are angry at the protesters for the way they are demanding change without admitting their part in the problem. Just my personal opinion...I admire the persistence of the protesters... after all this is winter. I believe this persistence is finally making whites understand this is not going away and there must be a problem if blacks are this serious. Eventually this awareness will bring progress and I only wish this awareness could have been brought forth in a different way... But as I think of it... most likely without these tragedies it would have been business as usual... Most, me included, don't like change unless forced. I hope in the future at the potbelly I hear more of the "to their credit" than the " Lets be honest". Butch
