Pre-diabetes. Preventative care for likely folks before they contract diabetes.
Clearly, the government is willing to pay for this preventative care.

You can't grasp why people don't want government involved in it. Once again, it's not so much about the "what" (preventive care) as it is about the "how" (government).

Preventive care is, without a doubt, a great idea. Do Dr.'s not agree? If they do agree, don't you think they're already doing this stuff (besides the identifying)?

As a Canadian who also works in healthcare believe me there are lots and lots of stuff our government has gotten wrong when it comes to healthcare. Yes it is pretty damn good and better than in the US but it's far from perfect and is sadly going downhill at a rapid speed.

Of course its not perfect, I don't expect perfection, but seriously, compared to what they have done down here it looks almost perfect even with its problems..

You have to remember that the posters that are opposing what the NHS wants to do are Americans and they do have a govt that wants to control every fn' thing.. the allergy med I buy in Canada is on the shelf and I can buy as much as I want, I just go to the clerk and pay for it, easy peasy, no govt involvement at all. But down here, the same allergy med I have to get from the pharmacist behind the counter and the govt only allows me to have 9.2gms/month and I have to swipe my id which is checked online thru a govt database and then I have to sign some legal mumbo-jumbo and only then do I get my meds.. If I try to buy more than 9.2gms in the month (which is 3 packages) I am told by the govt to fuck off (ok, the govt doesn't actually use those words but that's what they mean)..

The article says to identify and report overweight patients to the N.H.S.. The N.H.S. will then send advice to these identified patients. That is the government...through the insurance it provides...being involved in what should be between the doctor and the patient.
