The moral of the story? Get a dog, instead of a burglar alarm.

What about all of the anecdotal evidence suggesting that all dogs should be destroyed though

The guns aren't stupid . . . the person wielding it was stupid.

The dogs aren't stupid . . . the troll posting is stupid.

That's too humble a statement, Muse. The baiting of your hook deserves recognition as well.

Yeah, everyone went off on the gun control knee jerk (not an opponent of the 2nd Amendment here).

Point of the story is that there are morons who own guns, and they aren't safer for it.

Why bring it up then ?

So there are morons that own guns. Tell us something we don't know.

Was there a useful point to it ?

The fish are jumping, that's for sure. And with the same old same old. The content of the particular article never matters.

It's comic, in a sad way.

But it's also instructive...anecdotal, sure, but not unique. Shoot first, ask later, sounds all secure on a message board, but in real life, not keeping folks safe.

I've a buddy who has loaded guns everywhere. I think he's just as likely to be shot by one of those readily accessible guns. Let's hope we don't find out.

Well done, Jimmy Houston ;)

There are also morons with cars, matches, and knives so?

If it makes you happier, I am indeed against moronic acts involving cars, matches, and knives.

I just don't think moronic acts with guns have any special place of protection and safety.

I knew a woman who had one whole room of her house set up as a gun room, over one hundred firearms in racks on three walls.Pistols and rifles.....all of them she assured me were empty.
I asked why so many, she told me some were hers, some her late husbands.
As she was explaining this she took one down and dry fired it....the bullet flew past my ear and imbedded in the ceiling.
Two paler faces you can't imagine....took me a while to get my heart beat under control....took her longer to get her hands to stop shaking.

Firearms are the third-leading cause of injury-related deaths nationwide, following poisoning and motor vehicle accidents.

(both of which are regulated...)

So why do you think they deserve their own special thread?

Well, there was nothing in the news about a woman attacking her husband with a car, match, or knife because he tried to surprise her with breakfast.

In fact, that never happens. It's one of those special ways guns make her safer...

So it seems you are trying to use a moron as a back door to asking why guns get a special place, and motor oil doesn't. That would be because motor oil (or carriage axle grease) doesn't get a mention in the fucking Bill of Rights, while arms for the people to bear, do.

I get that.

I also get that it's not necessarily making folks safer.

It isn't about keeping individuals safe from themselves, it's about the security of a free state. Well intentioned morons, wielding powerful tools they might not know how to use safely, and having a panic reaction, can cause real damage to that, too.

...and that's why I'm in favor of not letting gun-wielding morons damage the well-being of the free state either.

Like they're really going to ward off a coup by shooting breakfast-wielding husbands through closet doors.

I seems to me that right is also a regulation...and no reason we the people can't decide what regulations we want. And of course we do have that right but it seems the majority of elected officials, and their electorate, do not want more and safer regulations. So it is up to folks like Muse and me to keep pointing out the outrageous and deadly results of the regulations that exist today and hope we can change minds.

What regulation would have prevented this, hint, none.
PS
The only thing as regulated as firearms is some drugs.

Sure there is... perhaps some required training would have helped... Certainly an intelligence test... The husband should be prosecuted and perhaps sterilized for marrying such an idiot.

Did not a certain man in Australia get prison time for shooting blindly through a door... How about a law for careless discharge of a weapon. A little time in the slammer may deter the next dumb ass that decides to shoot blindly through a door to think twice... remember that could have been a child.
