Seriously, no one has started a thread on President Obama's State of the Union address last night? I heard about 85% of it, and I am still sorting out a lot of what I heard. In the end, I think the President is a lot more "optimistic" and feeling better about our country's state of affairs, than Joe Public. I like what factcheck.org had to say about it since they are very unbias in their analysis. He embellished slightly but the country is in really remarkable shape, all things considered from our previous president. Have you seen the price of oil? Happy dance I feel like I should fill up canisters and bury them somewhere, LOL.

Honestly, I don't see what he has to be optimistic about since the congress has been usurped by the Radicals, who have made their intention to dismantle the last 150 years of social progress painfully clear. Of course, he still has the veto, so there is some small glimmer of hope, I guess. [sm=beatdeadhorse.gif]

I agree, President Obama inherited a total disaster, and I think he means well, and has done a fairly good job. When he was elected after GWB, I mentioned that many people would not want to be President at a time like that. But, that does not change the employment situation, or the fact that many people are struggling like hell to stay afloat. We may be close to the next depression, and I don't think many people are "buying" a lot of what he said about how great things are.

Whatever "way" it goes, most people realize how bad things are for many people these days. They see it and they live it. I like President Obama, and I voted for him twice, but I found a lot of that speech odd. Just because I like someone does not mean, I go along with whatever they say or do. I am not a rank and file partisian person.

Of course he's optimistic, he only has to worry for two more years. Then all the responsibility goes away. The people trying to blame him will continue to do so for as long as they can. But seriously this country has been ridden hard by both parties for around 75 years and coming back from that is going to take time.

I agree it will take about 75 more years {if ever} to turn this whole thing around. I am trying to say that accepting the reality of things, does not mean you are to blame. If the house is on fire, I can say it is on fire, and scream FIRE! It does not mean I set the fire. Saying the house is not on fire, does not change the reality of the situation. I think one of his greatest legacies will be the fact, that he was the first President to pass a national health care plan. I agree he and Congress are going to have to find some middle ground, or we all suffer.

There is reason to be optimistic IF Congress allows him to raise taxes on the wealthy. If not then OK, you may have something there. I am doubtful the next president will be half as proactive to such endeavors, sorry to tell you. And I think he really wanted to give you, Congress and the nation food for thought. I'm fine with whatever happens with the economy. My version of serenity to accept things I cannot change. I'm good at formulating and executing back up plans, a bit of a survivalist so to speak. I really think you should check out factcheck.org before you fret yourself over this. We technically should be in a Depression right now. Like a BIG ONE. The CFO of Guggenheim believed that we would be...now, and that we would not recover. But it isn't true if the markets are allowed to evolve. They have been stagnant for too long. You voting for him twice means nothing unless you also vote on state levels to be frank. This includes primaries. He's not a magician. He signs the bills Congress legislates or he legislates and proposes to them. The several hundred they have rejected including 7 wide sweeping veteran bills. I'm confused by your expectations.

Actually, I am not "perturbed" at all, I was just making a point. I think I stated my concerns fairly well, finding something a bit odd, is a long way from being perturbed. I live in the real world, among real people, and I see a lot of things and talk to a lot of people. I don't need to get all of my information or develop my sense of the world, by what I read on the internet. I have said several times, and I will not stay up all night typing the same thing== I don't blame President Obama for what is going on. That does not change the reality of what is going on these days for many/if not most people. Thanks for sharing

Sorry for miscontruing your feelings and I agree with much of what you had to say. I'm glad you created this thread actually. My only thought is "Congress has no term limits and they legislate the law". If they are unwilling to work with the president then shrug what can you do?

It would not matter WHO was elected President after GWB, they would not have been able to create a miracle. I never expected President Obama, to be able to create miracles. Why would I expect that of any President? Again, if you become the Captain of a ship that is already sinking, you can only do but so much. Anyone that thinks ANY President, is going to be able to SIGNIFICANTLY "turn this country" around in less than 20-25 years is delusional. These days, based on how this country is and has been going for YEARS, it does not matter WHO is elected President, to a certain extent. That's what many people "don't get". It took years for this country to go down, and it will take years for it to go back up. I think most people want to see this country get better, and many just disagree on what it will take to get there. [;)]

People here are rather remarkable. It's the people who make this country great and the people who are the government, There simply needs to be a call to action. A movement where energies are being put in the right place towards positive change. I gave a squatter out here with an anti-Obama sign a thumbs up yesterday. I leave, come back and there he is like clockwork. I like when people not only have strong opinions but also move towards desired change. Obama told this country, remember? "WE are the change we've been waiting for."

You are on point! Real and significant change is going to come from the people. I am not going to even get started on corporations, and the special interest groups that are behind most of our "elected officials". The former governor of Virginia is headed to jail over corruption charges. I am amazed that more and more people don't rise up. Eventually, more people will wake up and began to rise up. I think the entirety of congress needs to get kicked out of office. Then new rules need to be put in place. Rule 1 Taking a bribe is now known as treason for selling out the interests of the American People. Executions to be aired on a cable channel per George Carlin. Rule 2 No bill can be voted on by a member of congress who has not read it in its entirety. Rule 3 No amendment can be added to a bill that is not directly related to that Bill or the execution thereof. Rule 4 No bill may be written in language meant to obfuscate the intention from the public. Rule 5 You cannot use time while an elected official to run for another offic e. You must vacate your seat at the time you announce your intention to enter the race. Any other rules you can think of?

so as to expand the size/scope of government. as yet another form of wealth distribution. so that he can be seen as pro education and when the republicans block any legislation along those lines he can demonize them. because on the whole colleges are breeding grounds for progressivism.

I don't know what his motivations are, and your third point is most likely one of his motivations forking party politics, but saying that on the whole colleges are breeding grounds for progressivism is not indicative of community colleges. Community college professors tend to be more in line with what the community feels about issues as they don't tend to let their level of education keep them isolated from the community. If the community college, and I can point you to a couple in smaller more rural areas, are in conservative areas then the professors are more likely to be closer to this view than the far left.
