Yes, unfortunately.

I have a comment in my profile that was fine when it was CM.
Since it changed to CS, it's remained hidden - curtesy of the new mods.

I do not know how to use Skype, nor do I have any interest to. I couldn't Skype if my life depended on it. I'm honestly uncomfortable with appearance on cam in general. I too prefer getting to know someone via face-to-face interaction.

But just because some don't hop on Skype or cam, it doesn't mean we are fake. Some, yes. But not everyone.

Since my first meets are vanilla and in a public place it doesn't matter at all to me, even if people don't turn out to be aesthetically appealing. But again, that's just me.

Sorry. Apples and oranges, OP. If you don't think someone will show up for a professional session without Skyping first, that's a valid business decision. The "fake" moniker may just be a little harsh.

I don't necessarily think so. I would MUCH rather meet than Skype. And I don't mind meeting someone without really knowing what they look like, because I don't play on early meets, and I meet in a public place.

I also don't meet based on looks. I meet based on personality. Looks are a bonus, but nor a requirement for friendship.

Personally, I can get a much better "feel" for someone's personality, when vocal communication is in play. I want to stress that video is NOT mandatory, when using Skype (Hell, neither is audio but then, what's the point?) and it allows much more anonymity.

I probably won't meet with anyone I haven't actually spoken to so phone or Skype, it is.

I am going to take the contrary point to this topic.

A good many of the people that complain here on the boards are advised that if someone wants to go to Skype or cam right away, they are more than likely not interested in getting to know the individual. Your demand to go to Skype and your insistence that if they do not means that they are fake might actually be working against you in your search.

Time wasters are all over the place, you have to understand that before you search for someone. The best filtration system that I know to determine if someone is genuine or not is patience, not Skype.

Hell, I didn't have a chat program either and The Man had to talk me through downloading one.

We just met for coffee about a month after we started talking. And that was over 12 years ago.

Hello freedomdwarf1,

If you could tell me what your comment was that was allowed when the site was CM, that isn't now, I might be able to assist. I'd like to be sure of what you're talking about and do know the rules well enough that I can tell you whether it would be allowed or not or if there were any changes. I won't answer for Support and won't discus anything that has happened, but I can tell you if a comment is allowed or not.

I have a new laptop and it has a cam. I'm sure it probably has Skype and I do have the ability to figure out how to use it. I have used interactive cams and such in the past. I just don't want to.

I prefer to meet face to face at a local coffee shop. All meetings are vanilla and everyone is equal until their is a mutual negotiation otherwise. I don't like being on cam and frankly if I'm chatting with someone I'm probably in my jammies - lol. I want some time to think about the things we've talked about, form some pertinent questions, and frankly, look presentable. I am not fake - ask anyone in the Saskatoon, SK, CA community - lol.

This is just the way I do things.

I dont get the skype or you are a fake thing, Ive had all the messengers in my 20 years online, I only now use, hangouts(gtalk) skype and trillian. Skype is for calls to my family in the UK thats when I use my cam, which I have had for ten years out of that time, maybe longer. The only other person who has seen me on cam, is my pet.

I hate seeing pictures of myself, I have a facial paralysis and yes, have esteem issues with it, seeing myself on cam is something that doesnt give me joy at any time, so it doesnt matter who you are or why you are wanting to cam skype me, its not gonna happen. Ill talk on the phone, I do audio, I speak to quite a few people from here on the phone. But to assume someone is fake, because they dont wanna cam you, is pretty sad.

Most of the Masters I've talked to that demand Skype/Yahoo (usually without knowing me at all) come off as having severe control issues (and not in a good way) If they can't be bothered to get to know me first, it's THEIR loss, not mine. Also, I HATE video conferences, always have, always will. Makes me act unnaturally. I'd much rather meet in person. I usually steer clear of ppl who mention their skype or Yahoo id in their profile altogether. Most of them are only looking for cyber sex anyway.

Status: offline 		I think if you want to assume anyone who won't skype with you is a fake, that's your business. It's been my experience that there are some wonderful people out there who won't skype or can't for what ever reason. All you are doing is making the search harder for yourself. Personally, if I ever buy a computer with a working camera I probably still won't do it. And if that means someone else thinks I am fake, I guess I will have to learn to live with it.

Status: offline 		i dont have skype, or a cam. if you want to know why, read my latest journal entry. im as real as they come, and if not willing to skype or cam to prove it? i honestly dont give a damn what a guy thinks about that. its my boundary, and its not changing for Mr. Demanding Online Dudebro. he will have chat with me on the forum where we began contact until im comfortable leaving that platform, or move on to the next profile. /shrug.

I didn't say or imply that I didn't have them, just that many don't.

I have a cellphone and it has a camera - but I can't download or use any Apps.
It's not a smart phone - a deliberate choice not to have one.
But even if I did have one, I wouldn't Skype with someone near the start of any relationship.
Try at least to get to know the person first.
To me, the personality is way more important than looks.
Those that put looks first are very shallow people in my books and usually not worth knowing.

Gawd I am a fraction of a percent. No cellphone, no Skype, no webcam. I refuse to leave the 70's!!!

That said, if I talk to someone on-line for a few days, I wanna talk to them on the phone and meet soon, like within a couple of weeks, or I am gonna move on.
