Daddysredhead -> RE: explain your name (7/14/2006 11:51:44 PM)

My screen name just states who I am...  Daddysredhead.  [sm=preen.gif]

Estring -> RE: explain your name (7/15/2006 12:32:19 AM)

I am a guitar player, so Estring seemed to work for me. Just happy I didn't choose Gstring.

enigmabrat -> RE: explain your name (7/15/2006 5:28:56 PM)

LOL G string would have been so funny

fadedlace -> RE: explain your name (7/15/2006 5:45:44 PM)

If I had a photo posted it would be self-explanatory...I love lace items, inherited some from my grandmother a long time ago - i wear it and use it to decorate the house.  It's old, like me...the sun isn't kind to it, like me...it's softer and not as crisp as when new, like me...and some of it has damaged areas that show attempts at repair.

BreakingGlass -> RE: explain your name (7/15/2006 9:18:29 PM)

Breaking Glass is an old Bowie song.  I also use lyrics from a different Bowie song as my primary nickname/handle on most other sites I frequent.  I would've used it here, but it looked a little funny all strung together as one word.

MsKatHouston -> RE: explain your name (7/15/2006 9:19:16 PM)

Kat is my name...nothing too mysterious about it.  Maybe I'm just not creative...nahhhh :P

maybemaybenot -> RE: explain your name (7/15/2006 9:32:38 PM)

At the time I joined CM, I was at a crossroads in a relationship. My nic represents where I was at that time. ~Maybe, I will stay, maybe not.~
This wasn't my first choice, but the nic I use on other sites was taken.

It's our song, that funnily enough, doesn't really apply anymore, but it's still our song.

tangldupinblue -> RE: explain your name (7/15/2006 11:10:37 PM)

mine is a Bob Dylan song as many know, but i first heard it sitting around a fire pit at a Dead show, singing was the most beautiful hippie i had ever seen. we made eye contact and for the rest of the tour (about 8 months) everytime i saw him iasked him to play it, so as a teasing joke he started calling me blue. two years later we were married standing on the side of the rocky mountain in front of a waterfall. he played the song for me then. one year later we divorced, not because we did love each other, we were just not ment to be married. he hand his daugher later moved in with my family and he was a live in sitter for us. sadly he passed away about a month ago, and my heart and life withh never be the same. i feel a connected to him everytime i someones calls me blue.

Emperor1956 -> RE: explain your name (7/15/2006 11:47:14 PM)

Well I guess I'll come clean.  In fact, "Emperor", all lordly dominant and such sounding, has NOTHING to do with WIIWD.

A true story:   A LONG time ago...before the Web, and in fact before the Internet, children, there was a small computer network* operating between a number of the Big 10 schools, including Northwestern U. where I was a geeky freshman in the early 1970s.  This network was called PLATO.  It linked NU, U of Illinois at Champaign (where the computer was), Purdue, Indiana U. and maybe a few more.  My dormitory (a "residential college") had a PLATO terminal in the basement, and I was appointed the keeper of the terminal.  My most important august duty was to change the 100 ft roll of yellow paper on the teletype so that the dumb thing wouldn't type without paper and we'd lose messages (there was NO memory of any sort).  As the keeper of the terminal, I was dubbed "PAPER EMPEROR".  That became shortened to EMPEROR, and it has been part of my handle, in some variation, on every sort of computer system I have been on since 1974.

They say the Internet is a "network of networks?"  Well PLATO was the prototype for one of those early networks.  Al Gore thinks he invented the Internet?  HAH.  I invented the Internet!  Or at least one small part of it.

The 1956 is the year I was born.

E.
______________
* this "network" didn't look anything like what you all think a network is.  We communicated with a central computer (I think it was an IBM System 370 with (gasp) ONE MEG of memory) via TELETYPES...yes, these huge clunky electronic typewriters that spat out characters on yellow roll paper.  You typed in a query in proto-netspeak (R U THR?) and about 3 minutes later it came back with a reply (Y. WE R HRE DORKFISH).  There were only capital letters.  GOD I feel so old now.

SmokeyM -> RE: explain your name (7/16/2006 6:25:25 PM)

SmokeyM is for a few reasons
1 - where there is smoke there is fire.. and I'm a redhead [;)]
2 - Smokey M stands for Smokey Minx.. I love to flirt with fire
3 - my native american totem of sorts is a black dragon that breaths a smoke in the shape of a wolf.

enigmabrat -> RE: explain your name (7/16/2006 6:27:19 PM)

LotusSong -> RE: explain your name (7/16/2006 6:33:21 PM)

In an attitude far far away in a chat room…

I had an online “master” and he took another slave behind my back!      GASP!!!
(This is so stupid...)  Anyhow- He gave her the name of Lotus Girl... so to aggravate him, I changed my name to Lotus Woman with the profile “Never send a girl to do a Woman’s job”... then he changed her name to another Lotus something or other... and I came back with Lotus Song because I thought it sounded nice.  That is where it stopped.  I kept it because I liked the sound of it. So you see, it was the result of a tantrum J  Years later I googled the words and found that there was a Chinese legend called “The Lotus Song”.  It was about a woman in feudal China, a pre arranged marriage she didn’t want, she escaped, her true love found her late in life. Just a co-incidence but kind of karmic J

Yup... I had my stupid days... 12 years ago.

bigjohnson -> RE: explain your name (7/16/2006 6:40:48 PM)

Everyone that reads my name on here thinks that is a form of an inuendo. I honestly don't always mean it that way. It was what my high-school football coach called me because i grew a foot and gained 140 pounds in 4 years in high school, so i guess i went from scrawny johnson to bigjohnson. I also lived in a small small town and that was how people knew me around town. Big Johnson was on my Varsity Letterman Jacket all over our year book and my teachers would call me big J. My name is just an old nickname from high school that still is breathing today.

enigmabrat -> RE: explain your name (7/16/2006 6:44:00 PM)
