What amazes me is the outright stupidity of Moore. Even if you thought such things would not good sense stop you from broadcasting your dumb ass opinions to the very people who you depend on for your livelihood?

Butch

Your question entertains the chance that he has good sense.
He is a worthless anti American piece of s###

And yet if we believe the principals of the free market are the end all and be all "your"side constantly champions.....than Moore is an outstanding example of the entrepreneurial class.
After all he is successful and I dare say worth a bit more than you...financially speaking of course.

And only financially speaking.
A I was not comparing him to me.
B I was talking about the kind of person he is not his bank account.
C You knew both A and B when you made your post.

Perhaps you can explain to me precisely how being a sniper is somehow heroic ...... Or being a jet pilot and dropping bombs on people from a height of 30,000 feet is heroic? Afghans, who are no strangers to war or warfare, view the use of aerial power in war as essentially cowardly. In their view any one who doesn't face fire, who avoids the risk of death while dealing death to others is fighting in a cowardly fashion.

These questions have nothing to do with the film or Kyle the person - they are about the tendency of some people to label anything in a military uniform as 'heroic'. I don't doubt that there are many individuals in the various militaries around the world who have been or are capable of acting heroically. But there's little heroism about most roles in the military, many of whom never come near any risk to their personal welfare and well being.
.
At some point the tendency to glamourise the military, and individual soldiers becomes an attempt to glamourise war itself, something that I feel we all ought to reject. On a personal level, the real legacy of warfare is dead and broken human beings, destroyed communities and cultures, and residues of hate on all sides. There's nothing glamourous about that at all.

bounty44 -> RE: You mean his apology wasnt real? (1/28/2015 1:49:38 AM)

im not sure why/how your post here is in response to something I said. I surely didn't post anything in my own words that suggested chris kyle was a hero. in fact I said I found maher's point about ambiguity to be interesting.

also, though I didn't say this earlier, as I was reading the book, I didn't identify strongly, at least always, with chris kyle.

I don't think anything I posted by columnists particularly glamorized the military either, rather, they pointed out the very difficult and sometimes dirty necessity.

and I agree with an awful lot you said right here.

I know this though---one day I was out running with a friend from the basque country in spain nearby a bridge in Minneapolis, which was full of peace protestors. my friend made a sympathetic comment about them, and something critical about whatever conflict it was going on at the time that they were protesting.

I said to him, unless those people out there would refuse to raise a hand to defend their loved ones, or themselves, when being assaulted individually, then they are probably not quite the pacifists they like to think they are.

unless you can stand there and get your head bashed in like Gandhi's followers did to show up the british rule/oppression in india, then you carry a somewhat similar spirit as those who would actually go to where. it differs in degree perhaps, but not so much in kind.

I don't remember if I actually said this to him or not, but in retrospect I could have---he was married and had just had a baby---do you think you would use force, and deadly force at that if necessary, to protect your wife and baby from harm?

Technically, this thread could have been removed from the forum entirely because I had to remove so many posts. I have no idea from where I'm sitting right now, how many were taken and how awful this looks, but I leave it to make a point.

One thing went wrong. The naming of another member that was not on the thread.

Because of this and how the naming of other members can play out in harassment, etc. this thread was dissected and comes out looking pretty bad. When you see something going wrong and you continue, everything gets taken. It wastes a lot of time for members and staff, good posts are lost and then people get mad and that moves into other areas that break down the forum rather than enhance it or build it. You don't have to enhance it or build it, but you start breaking it down and destruction and you and I will have an issue with one another. A serious one. I haven't worked my butt off to help this place stand against attacks to have it all fall apart because someone thinks its fun or are taking part in those attacks.

Let's enjoy the forum.

FFS. Grow up.

A little topic, less name-calling?

Moderator3 -> RE: You mean his apology wasnt real? (1/28/2015 1:50:00 PM)

MusicMystery, that works for me. I technically couldn't take that one, but I sure don't like seeing some of these posts. The Feisty section was a test project that could disappear at any time. It isn't a free-for-all. Adding more rules takes us a long road back from which we came.

*Shakes head and goes to get a coffee and a few moments of meditation.

I took that as sarcasm. She just forgot the sarcasm emoticon.

I am sure of it since
A it repeats something I said about Moore earlier
and
B if there is anything death cannot be accused of is rabid pro-Americanism

Moderator3 -> RE: You mean his apology wasnt real? (1/28/2015 2:28:57 PM)

If the OP would like to start a new thread on this topic, he has my permission.

mnottertail -> RE: You mean his apology wasnt real? (1/28/2015 2:32:12 PM)

Then you could attach my first post on this thread to it, and the thread would be ready for archiving, having no other earthly value.

Damn, sweet 3...I'd love to see what you cleared because this last page is almost like being of a disjointed trip.

But nahhhhhhh...I'll go with what I've got. [;)]

Thank you slvemike4u,

You didn't have to come post that, but I do respect that you did. I am not complaining about the work, as I knew the job would entail a lot of work. [:D] Still, it doesn't please me to have to remove anything and I wanted to explain why this happened.

Have a wonderful day

I like the new guidelines and yet still managed to trip one of the few remaining trip wires [&o]

The world should be more like your avatar, tweak. You're an outstanding forum member, who refuses to be deflected from the fundamental subjects.
