BamaD -> Another cop shooting of "unarmed" teen. (1/29/2015 3:48:10 PM)

Denver cops shot this "outgoing" good kid, and all she did was try to run down them with a stolen car.

Not according to one of the kids in the car.

I thought it was an attempted vehicular homicide thread. <GRIN>

You could say it is. The teen tried to kill the cops with her car and paid for it.
To show the brilliance of the critics, one asked why the cops didn't just use a stun gun on her......while she is in a moving car.

The DPD also said initially that two suspects were shot, one critical, no officers hit. That was updated as the details became clearer. Same with the initial information about what happened. That has been updated too.

White said the first officer who arrived ran the plates of the vehicle and found it to be stolen. After a backup cruiser arrived, the driver allegedly drove at the officers. The officers opened fire at the car with several shots striking the female driver. One of the officers was hit in the leg by the car and was taken to a hospital for treatment. He was in fair condition, White said. ~Fox31 Denver

Actually my motive was not so much about guns as the knee jerk reaction many people have when, regardless of the situation they assume the police had to be wrong.

only in your mind do people have a knee jerk, the cops are wrong attitude. The only cop kills someone stories we get on here are the ones where there are questions to be asked.

There is not a new thread every time a cop justifiably shoots someone, is there?

I don't know how this case will pan out, do you? I hope you've backed the right horse in this race because if it turns out the cops were out of order.....well....

Yep… if you listen to relatives their poor angel never has a gun or tries to run cops down…as in HERE

But… we get these all the time in the St. Louis area …HERE is another...and another HERE... good old St. Louis. Oh don't forget these kind...love it when a mother sends her child to school with a bullet wound in his foot...pitiful. Turns out it was a fight over drugs.

But we are used to it here in post Ferguson hell hole St. Louis. Come on down I'll make some popcorn and buy a case of Bud and we can set around watching them shoot each other in between protests anyway.... It's lots of fun watching them case cops around with their cars.

We made a mistake in our town some years ago… A high speed police chase resulted in a tragic death when the pursued car ran a stoplight and broadsided a vehicle at the intersection.

With good intentions the police in our area decided they would not pursue in a high-speed chase if it put the officers, private citizens, or property in danger… So NOW the crooks know if they flee at high speed… even driving at a police officer… police will not pursue… so we have twice as many deaths caused by speeding fugitives when fleeing at high speed…. Dumb rule…If crooks know they will be pursued and caught anyway with added time for endangering innocents they would be less likely to take off at high speed…In my opinion anyway. Now the police know the best way to stop a chase is to shoot the drivers before they can take off and maybe kill someone else.Double dumb.

We had the same rule, at least for a while, in Montgomery, and the results were also bad.

Let's see
A the cops got a call
B before doing anything they ran the plates
C the car was stolen
D they got backup
E they were uniformed officers so they were clearly officers
F one of they officers was struck by the car and injured
G then, and only then, did the police fire.

It would have to take some remarkable change in the facts to make the cops wrong. And if dramatically different facts come out well at worst bad information was put out, sorry but it will not reflect on me at all.

The second person in the car being hit is, for me, new information, thank you.

And I'm sure that another 17 year old girl...friend of the girl shot by police...inside the car with the girl as she allegedly tried to flee...wouldn't lie about her actions or the actions of the killed girl or the actions of the police, would she? Of COURSE not because teenagers are always good when police appear.

And she would have known the car didn't belong to any of the people there so protestations of total innocence are questionable.

Current news coverage is reporting that the driver of the stolen car accelerated toward the officers, who opened fire. The driver was killed, and one officer's leg was injured by the vehicle.

Current reporting indicates that no second person in the car was hit. That appears to have been early misinformation.

Maybe they should have shot out her tires with a stun gun, or bean bag guns?
