Think of all the grieving mothers when they see how their kids are using their time pursuing their expensive educations.

Now THAT makes me weep, given the money I put out for my two ums.

An inordinate amount of casual Speciesism on this thread.

I'm sort of a vegetarian in that I only eat anything that lives in or near water, and as you never more than 72 miles from water no matter where you live in England, then that's pretty much anything and no animal is safe.

Although it does raise an interesting philosophical question centred around empathy, not that I consider this when tucking into a lamb. I tend to eat first and ask questions later.

In terms of the OP, usually in England these environmental types are middle class lads and lasses living in holes and spending Mam and Dad's money on living in a hole in the ground or half way up a tree and doing pretty much anything to avoid work (including living in a hole in the ground). Few people take them seriously, and it seems it's no different in the United States.

I remember when Margaret Thatcher stopped school children from having milk courtesy of the State, and became universally known as ' Maggie
Thatcher the milk bottle snatcher'. Seems the students are following suit although for an altogether different motive. Who would have thought environmentalists and Maggie in cahoots.

I, personally, find it is easier to eat the meat AFTER it is dead. Hence I do not tear up too much over animal death and "suffering."

.on a related point....regarding Uof VA? and your quote
And the National Pan-Hellenic council banned adult women members at U of Va from attending parties that were held by adult males. I thought that it was the 21st century, but this is sounding much more 19th century to me.

I admit freely I havent followed this, so let me ask, do you think that it might have to do with the rape that may or may not have happened(from the RS debacle), so they are doing gender segregation at parties(It still amazes me) to prevent anyone a chance to rape a woman(or man) or just as importantly to be accused of rape?
Whatever it is its bloody daft policy.
do you have a link? as I said, I havent read up on it, I cannot imagine going to any college, liberal or not and living by such a "rule" I dont see many college students taking notice.
WHile concern about the number of rapes in unis and colleges around the world is very much in the media, this is a step way too far in my humble opinion. backlash causing more retaliation and backlash ad nauseam.

Yes, it is about the false rape story in Rolling Stones. The rape story that has repeatedly been proven false. And the statistic behind it which has been repeatedly proven false.

Here is a story about the party ban: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-01-28/uva-sororities-protest-banishment-from-fraternity-party-night

Between this, affirmative consent laws, trigger warnings, and some other issues, I am beginning to think that today's young women are just too delicate for college.

When you guys can decide on what your argument is; could you inform the rest of us? Thanks in advanced!

Because last I checked, that is an image of US Citizens demonstrating their 1st amendment rights. The forth part of the 1st amendment at that!

Look up "Heinlein" and "Crazy years."

Also, using your first amendment rights and being a bloody idiot are NOT mutually exclusive.

http://www.tampabay.com/news/publicsafety/man-shopping-for-coffee-creamer-at-walmart-attacked-by-vigilante-for/2214432

BRANDON — Clarence Daniels had just crossed the threshold of Walmart's front doors on Tuesday, in search of coffee creamer for his wife, when the gun in hip holster gave a well-intentioned vigilante the idea he was up to something more sinister.

From the Walmart parking lot at 11110 Causeway Boulevard, Michael Foster, 43, of Lithia had watched Daniels, 62, take from his car the handgun — for which he holds a concealed carry permit — and place it on his hip underneath his coat, Hillsborough sheriff's deputies reported.

As Daniels entered the store, a label for the coffee creamer in his pocket in case he forgot the brand, Foster tackled him to the ground and placed him in a choke hold, sheriff's spokesman Larry McKinnon said.

"He's got a gun!" deputies said Foster shouted.

"I have a permit!" Daniels yelled back multiple times, McKinnon said.

The men struggled and were separated until law enforcement arrived on scene just before noon. Foster was arrested and charged with battery.

"Unfortunately he tackled a guy that was a law-abiding citizen," McKinnon said. "We understand it's alarming for people to see other people with guns, but Florida has a large population of concealed weapons permit holders."

The Sheriff's Office recommends that vigilante-inclined citizens refrain from taking matters into their own hands, especially when an incident is gun-related. Call 911 or alert security, McKinnon said, before taking any drastic measure.

"You better make sure there's a good reason," he added. "Otherwise you might be confronting a guy that is legally permitted to carry a gun."

Can you imagine if he had tried to defend himself against his attacker and killed him?
and the stupid just keeps coming

using your first amendment rights and being a bloody idiot are NOT mutually exclusive.

For example, the fourth part of the First Amendment isn't the freedom of speech or assembly.

They are on private property. There's no right of assembly there.

Tell you what. You go there, without an ID, and see how that works out for you.

I'm sure they'll explain to you how that works.

Being California, it would not surprise me, but. . .

Are you actually suggesting that you have to have a Berkley ID to get on the campus?

Pick any campus you want. They actually pay attention to who is supposed to be there and who is visiting. That's why they require IDs.

When did Berkley cease to be a public university?

The protest occurred at the Domino's franchise in a nearby off-campus business district.

The demonstration, scheduled for an hour starting at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon, took place in front of a Domino’s location near the intersection of Shattuck and University Avenues. ~The Daily Californian
