The 14 women killed in montreal in 1989 were not killed by bombs but a lone wolf (terrorist)who hated women with a gun
there was a lot done with security in campus's after that, gun control, police response and a huge look into violence against women

Musicmystery -> RE: Tales from the Edge (2/2/2015 11:55:08 AM)

But he did have a beard. That's the important part.

Lucylastic -> RE: Tales from the Edge (2/2/2015 12:01:14 PM)

dammit, you are right...
the fucking beard, that should have given me a clue
my old mans beard is so white he only gets called santa,
Im glad he isnt younger, he would be in a world of shit here.

So...you're suggesting they have security for a reason????

...not to mention a large pool of young women gathered together

I think that sums it up pretty well [8|]

I don't have a beard,that makes me one of the good guys,right?

An inordinate amount of casual Speciesism on this thread.

I'm sort of a vegetarian in that I only eat anything that lives in or near water, and as you never more than 72 miles from water no matter where you live in England, then that's pretty much anything and no animal is safe.

Although it does raise an interesting philosophical question centred around empathy, not that I consider this when tucking into a lamb. I tend to eat first and ask questions later.

In terms of the OP, usually in England these environmental types are middle class lads and lasses living in holes and spending Mam and Dad's money on living in a hole in the ground or half way up a tree and doing pretty much anything to avoid work (including living in a hole in the ground). Few people take them seriously, and it seems it's no different in the United States.

I remember when Margaret Thatcher stopped school children from having milk courtesy of the State, and became universally known as ' Maggie
Thatcher the milk bottle snatcher'. Seems the students are following suit although for an altogether different motive. Who would have thought environmentalists and Maggie in cahoots.

I, personally, find it is easier to eat the meat AFTER it is dead. Hence I do not tear up too much over animal death and "suffering."

I think the argument goes that as human beings we have an inherent ability to emphasise and this transcends species, so how and when it arrives on your plate is deemed to be redundant in terms of persuasion. We don't eat dogs because they're a valued part of the family and couldn't bring ourselves to do it. Suppose it's just hard luck for cows that they don't make good pets.

slvemike4u -> RE: Tales from the Edge (2/2/2015 12:32:05 PM)

They are rather large and a bit difficult to domesticate.
Just sayin...

Yep. However, there's a Brit regular here who has a beard and is always posting about how he hates Muslims. That's proof enough in itself that he's Al Q or ISIS, in my book.

Dogs. . . depends on the culture. I understand that the black ones are tastier. I hear that cat is tasty as well.

As far as meat eating versus plant eating. . . truthfully I think that the idiots just do not understand how many animals die to grow the crops they eat. Including fluffy little baby bunnies. (Which is why the boycott of Whole Foods because they started selling rabbit meat makes me shake my head.)

Could this be the only pogonophobe in the world with a beard?

NorthernGent -> RE: Tales from the Edge (2/2/2015 12:48:27 PM)

Speaking of rabbits, I used to love rabbit pie. Beautiful, and game pie.

I have a beard. And a backpack. And I know how to use them.

FR

I'll probably regret saying this, but I have a certain respect for the protesters. Yes, there's an SNL-skit quality to protesting a pizza parlor about its cartons, but two other things occur to me:

(a) Unlike yours truly, they've had the courage to look at the realities of where modern American food comes from and the character to adapt their diet accordingly. In pitiful contrast, I look the other way rather than face the cruelty that goes into my menu.

(b) At a time when "the younger generation" is often slammed for self-absorption, they bestirred themselves to raise awareness about an issue that moves them--without, so far as I can see, much personal gain thereby. Can't recall the last time I did that.

This brings to mind my recent and long-overdue deforestation of my face. Without the orange thicket, the percentage of my hair that is gray soared, alas.

I wonder whether they were wearing leather shoes and belts.

Perhaps. But they're still doing far more for the well-being of food animals than I am.

If the only thing they are doing is protesting the use of milk (which didn't require the animal to be slaughtered and skinned but rather, milked), they are idiots.

A whole lot of brownies would be my guess

RottenJohnny -> RE: Tales from the Edge (2/3/2015 10:31:12 AM)

If people really want to protest about food they should take a minute to read the ingredient lists on Velveeta Cheese and Cool-Whip.
