We set a new record high here on Monday - 81 degrees. I was outside grilling in shorts, listening to the neighbors mow their lawns.

I had 20 below overnight (in ny) a few days ago and no running water since Saturday...

Forget it, Stef. You're talking to people who are *proud* of being stupid. You could chuck grenades at their heads to see if anything would move in them, but I wouldn't rate your chances. :-(

what an incredibly fascinating (and arrogant) thing to say...

many thousands of people who actually work in this field, holding terminal degrees, and have spent their lives researching and studying it, have come down on the side of "the science isn't settled." they must be proud of being stupid also.

the position above is especially strengthened given the people on the left who have had to change the terms of the argument (global warming to climate change), have had to change the direction of the argument from what's been said (coming ice age to global warming) in our lifetime, who get caught manipulating data, and who have the added motivation of wealth transference/larger government, etc

Look this shit comes up with every change in the season. Global warming does NOT cause the end to seasonal changes, it however does make the extremes worse.

The extreme snow falls and cat. 5 hurricanes, the flooding are caused by the air above all of this...being warmer, which holds more water. Global warming doesn't stop arctic air, it has warmer air holding more water cause larger snow falls when the arctic air hits them and larger hurricanes during their season.

Why do so few people here see that ? A man takes his wife to Chile to see a great river and water fall that they enjoyed on their honeymoon 30 years ago. In 2014 it wasn't there. It was dried up. No more mountain snowfall, so no more river and no more waterfall.

There is x amount of heat in and on the planet. With record highs in some areas, that means record lows in others. With warmer and thus greater water-holding skies, it means larger snow and rain storms with those record lows and highs in so many more cases than in the past.

Get a grip kinkroids, ALL of this winter weather.....ALL of it...is global warming, right before your eyes.

We were promised the end of snow

Years ago

And the hurricanes have lessened

(You might want to freshen up your talking points)

I'm sorry, Bounty, but the deniers' claim just isn't respectable any more. I think you'll just have to get used to the fact that non-Americans use this forum, I'm afraid.

Releasing carbon dioxide that was bound up in the earth eons ago increases the insulating properties of the atmosphere.

This acts like a push on a swing. A bit added each time creates larger and larger swings.

Where the swing settles out can possibly be tropical conditions up to near the Canadian Border or in the other direction with extremely more precipitation and glaciation down into Kansas latitudes. Geologically we have had both conditions in the past. We have stressed the climate equilibrium and that is a proven fact. Where it will settle out is still the subject of hot debate. We are seeing the effects that were predicted by math done in the 1970s.

Yep, you can count on the climate changing. But where it will settle is still an unsettled matter with various scientists betting on their own pet theories.

Apart from the complete absurdity that the only place “climate deniers” exist are in the USA, that a high percentage of the world’s experts and facilities actually exist here, and that you ignored my other criticisms on the “settled science” which are fairly deadly to your position, you can look at these sites and note the international make up of other scientists who aren’t toeing the liberal line:

Climate deniers exist elsewhere, but nowhere else in the modern world are they taken as seriously as they are in the USA. It isn't just 'liberals' outside of the USA who don't respect the deniers' position or the scientists who support it, Bounty. It's most people in the developed world, anywhere on the political spectrum, outside of the USA. That's just a factual description of the state of the argument about the subject as it is, today. No point in shooting the messenger.

Well in all fairness, one of them is reality:

Arctic summers ice-free 'by 2013'

Scientists in the US have presented one of the most dramatic forecasts yet for the disappearance of Arctic sea ice. Their latest modelling studies indicate northern polar waters could be ice-free in summers within just 5-6 years...

Its one thing to be skeptical of the evidence. But that implies you agree with much of how science is understood and developed. That you agree the scientific method helps generate good information and determine when someone is lying for political and/or religious viewpoints. Scientific skeptics do not automatically deny a study could be true and factual. But instead, test the original experiment(s) to see if they get the same, close to, or different results. Which is different from 'The Deniers' whom have a political and/or religious bent to the subject matter. Your a denier, not a skeptic. You deny the information for political reasons and nothing more.

Your information is pretty old and out dated. Yet, the information is pretty true from a certain perspective. Back in the 1980's the extent of the Arctic Ice was about 20,000 cu km. Now its low (after summer) was around 5,400 cu km and high of 8,000 cu km.

But that doesnt give the full picture. Arctic ice only is a two dimensional concept. That's length by width. The depth is very small. During melting periods, this ice disappears. When cooling takes place, some of that ice is reformed. The evidence shows a downward reduction is ice forming year after year. In essence, the area that has ice is shrinking. The 2007 report your tying to make fun of, actually isn't to far off of a prediction based on the evidence they had at the time. This is the evidence that shows your just a denier rather than a skeptic.

The full picture is something called 'Multi-Year Ice'. This adds a third dimension to the Artic Ice: volume. The volume of the ice has also been in decline year after year. In order to melt this multi-year ice so quickly (or in simpler terms, thick ice), would require much more heat than the normal cycle.

Could you explain to me and the rest us, why the extent and volume of ice in the Arctic is diminishing so rapidly?
