So they did everything wrong?

They arrested and held a fifteen year old girl for carrying a comb in a place where not even the hoods have guns. Would you like to list what they did right?

I would if I could think of anything.
Maybe that they identified themselves as police?
They were wearing their uniforms correctly?
As far as their handling the case......nope.

This whole thing reminds me of my arrest for taking a drink of water in a rural Alabama town... way back when. The observing officer saw me drinking out of a gallon milk drug and assumed I was drinking moonshine while stopped at a traffic light.

Some police officers just don't want to let go of initial assumptions.

The teen said the ordeal left her scared and confused.

“I didn’t know what was happening. They took my clothes and my stuff – it was really uncomfortable.”

The girl’s mother, Simone, says police thought Rochae was a boy because she was wearing her hoodie.

Thats what happens when there are surveilance cameras all over the fn place (London is the worst for that)... The last few days where i am here (Houston the Museum district) there are cops that arrive in the am when i do and when i leave in the afternoon they are still there, sitting on their motorcycles.. i think they are scanning vehicle license plates.. I expect in the future the city will put up permanent scanner cameras around the city.. scanning faces (facial recognition),... scanning vehicle plates.. Big Brother watching every move.. You can even be "watched" in your own home with IR equipment/cameras..

People need to revolt against this stuff.. this girl/parents should sue the cops for false arrest and abuse of process.. if she wasnt found with a gun on her then why was she arrested and held in the first place???

I came away with two things from the story…first

30 years ago if a child was carrying a toy gun police would automatically think and know it was a toy … that is not reality today. In many places in this world it is all too common for those toys to be real and used to rob and kill by teens and even younger. Police are forced for their own safety as well as the general public to assume first that the toy could be a real weapon…pitiful but true.

Second… I wonder if the camera footage was recorded…you do not hear of that. It could be quite clear that she had a weapon…but if they have that footage it should have been part of the story.

The base cause of this is that the government was watching every move the "citizens" made watching for any deviation from "accepted" behavior. Welcome to Oceana.

Question: Your on duty by yourself(don't ask why, you just are, and your Sergeant hates you) walking on a deserted street late at night. Suddenly, an armed man with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, raises knife and lunges at you.
You are carrying your truncheon and are an expert in using it. However you have a split second to react before he reaches you. What do you do?

Answer:
British Police Officer:
Firstly, the Officer must consider the man's human rights(I laughed at this bit!)
1) Does the man look poor or oppressed?
2) Has he newly arrived in this country and does not yet understand the law?
3) Is this really a knife or a ceremonial dagger?
4) Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack?
5) Am I dressed provocatively?
6) Could I run away?
7) Could I possibly swing my truncheon and knock the knife out of his hand?
8) Should I try to negogiate with him to discuss his wrong-doings?
9) Why am I carrying a truncheon anyway and what kind of message does this send to society?
10) Does he definitely want to kill me or would be content just to wound me?
11) If I were to grab his knees and hold on, would he still want to stab me?
12) If I raise my truncheon and he turns and runs away, do I get blamed if he falls over, knocks his head and kills himself?
13) If I hurt him and lose the subsequent court case, does he have the opportunity to sue me, cost me my job, my credibility and the loss of my family home?

Glasgow Police Officer:

You forgot... At least post Ferguson for American Police officers:

1.) Must check my skin color and be sure it does not contrast with attacker… Must call to station to see if we have reached contrasted skin pull over and arrest numbers for the month… Must give three warnings and throw five kisses before pulling gun… Must take real bullets out of gun and replace with rubber or paper wading If contrasted skin…Must allow at least three stabs and 10 punches before authorized to call in to supervisor for permission to use force… if contrasted skin… Oh hell… must politely ask for attacker with contrasted skin to pretty please sir follow the law…. If not just make it quick.
