Yes but you cannot have it both ways... statistics show that people on drugs are among the top causes of fatal auto accidents...and I do believe I read that auto accidents from impaired driving went up in Colorado after legalization of pot. I am not comparing the risk of alcohol use and pot...but I am saying this study does show significant adverse effects of pot on the body... take it or leave it i guess.

Butch

Please link to these studies rather than just talking about believing in them. The people driving on drugs are still doing that now...

kdsub -> RE: I knew it...Pot makes you stupid (4/13/2015 11:43:24 AM)

Really... just do a search on the causes of auto accidents... I am not wasting everyone's time posting them.

Butch

All you do is post about random studies... Just link them... You're the one wasting our time by not.

So, first you link a report by the Rocky Mountain HIDTA; a drug enforcement group... The value of a study/report is kind of proportional to the objectivity of it's producer.

Second:

"Traffic fatalities in Colorado decreased 16 percent, from 2006 to 2011, which is
consistent with national trends. During the same six years in Colorado, traffic
fatalities involving drivers testing positive for just marijuana increased 114
percent."

Basically, MJ use went up, but it had no actual effect on fatalities. So, you get it both ways there butch.

kdsub -> RE: I knew it...Pot makes you stupid (4/13/2015 12:02:03 PM)

I don't know any other way to read it accept pot caused the death toll to go up.

Here's the deal, the way I see it in Washington.

It was a CLOSE race. And, I wouldn't put it past those who were opposed to the legalization of pot to put it out there that someone in a "fatal auto accident" had been smoking, even days before the accident. Fact is-- it just hasn't happened, to an extent greater than before the legalization. It's just not there.

kdsub -> RE: I knew it...Pot makes you stupid (4/13/2015 12:26:58 PM)

No pot went up... that is the point...every other reason went down... but pot intoxication in fatal accidents went up... no way around it

kdsub -> RE: I knew it...Pot makes you stupid (4/13/2015 12:29:34 PM)

lol... I've been bitten before... I sort of like it... but since she can't see good enough to read I can stay out of her reach....[:D]

... If there was some pandemic of pot actually causing fatalities the trending fatalities in Colorado would not remain within national trends, and you say I can't read.

Except in income to the states in taxes, less police having to enforce that side of things, and therefore able to enforce greater crimes, etc.

Less income and less police? How so?

I did not say less income and less police. You said:

As far as I can see-- it just ain't such a big deal.

My response broken down is:

quote:

Except in income to the states in taxes,

Which is a BIG deal. There is a LOT of taxable income to be made.

quote:

less police having to enforce that side of things, and therefore able to enforce greater crimes, etc.

Police having to worry less about pot usage therefore being able to work on bigger issues.

I am not saying I can have it both ways. I am saying that I do not believe someone should be allowed to harm another. I do believe they should be able to make choices for themselves.

As I said, I have never been drunk, nor high, nor any other sort of intoxicated. I have been tired, however. And I CHOOSE, for myself, not to drive in that state, because I am impaired.

See how simple that is?

I also CHOOSE for myself and others when I go out with friends and drive, so that they can CHOOSE to damage their bodies however they wish and still get home safe without harming others.

That is why you suggesting people having the right to do whatever they want to their bodies and people harming others are the same thing is actually incredibly, totally wrong.

So, are we not speaking about the same thing?

Yeah, I realize this is a divisive issue, but shouldn't people on the same side of the fence "stick together", as it were?

I'm not quite sure what you're asking. I was merely clarifying my statement. If you'd be so kind as to say that another way, perhaps I will be able to answer.

I was unclear when I initially asked. Now it's become abundantly clear. It seems to me that we are speaking about the same thing.
