ORIGINAL: lovmuffin Thank you, but I'm only taking back the British thing. I still have a problem with what you said to Sanity and how you said it. Fair enough. But re Sanity: he has a long history of throwing bludgeoning and mindless comments at things that I've tried to reason out. Likewise others. For me, he's just this side of troll. I'm sure he knows that what he fires back is brainless - and enjoys saying it all the more for just that reason. At another level, Sanity now aside and forgotten - and really what my post was about: there *is* a nasty, thorny issue about those who are just that bit, and no more, above the bottom rung, economically, socially and educationally speaking. In my country, and in mainland Europe, the group I'm referring to has *always* been the most hating and disdainful of those at the bottom - the unemployed, those with disabilities, minority races, and so on. I'm talking about the social and economic class that produced Hitler. There is no snobbery and pompousness like that exhibited by this class. It's driven in a way that doesn't apply to the upper classes, who 'just know' they're the best and don't think or feel beyond that. It's ironic, really, about that issue of snobbery and pompousness and the charge of that coming my way and that of various Brits and other non-Americans here: Where I get a whiff of the pompousness and snobbery I'm talking about, it *really* makes me recoil in horror. I think it would any Brit - any European, actually. Some Americans I've seen here do smell of that to me, I have to say. Or the American version of it, as I see it, anyway. A Hitler analogy ? Come on, your reading way too much into it. I can't attest to attitudes in the UK but here it's much simpler to read. It may have been over 30 years since those pot dealers bragged about their welfare but it's the same type of crap that still happens to this day. I hate to repeat myself but conservatives don't appose assistance for the needy. We appose it for moochers who don't need it. We appose corporate welfare. Of course all of this is a drop in the bucket compared to unfunded entitlements (another form of welfare). What is it all going to matter anyway once the dollar is devalued to the point we're all in the poor house ? At that point no one will be getting much of anything. I don't think conservatives, at least on this forum are racist, bigots or homophobes. We're Federalreservaphobes.
