If you could start your life over and go back to certain point and be able to fix your mistakes would you? I have mixed feelings on one hand I think it would be a great opportunity to right wrongs on another hand I think I'd probably just make different mistakes than I did the first time around.

The mistakes I have made have also molded me into the person I am today. If I changed the past then my present would also change. I would be someone different.

It's best to leave well enough alone, I think. The past taught me many things I would not have learned if I had avoided the less kind events. I would not have learned many of life's lessons.

Yes, it would be nice right wrongs that were done to others. Yet, in many cases they learned from that experience also.

Six of one, a half dozen of the other.

No. That's not to say I don't have regrets. I do, but it was those mistakes that made me who I am... and there are a lot of worse ways I could have gone. Actually, I feel like those regrets fuel me in a way and I find them to be a source of strength and determination.

(It's probably a matter of scale though... If the mistake was starting a nuclear war...)

In short, yes.

The long answer would be dull and boring, so suffice it to say that even though some of the mistakes I made have sculpted the person I am today, and while I am pleased with who I am, if I didn't make those mistakes, I would be the person I should be without stupid mistakes.

JVoV -> RE: If you could start again would you? (5/2/2015 2:04:24 AM)

I'd probably make most of the mistakes over again. And as many more as humanly possible.

Aibo -> RE: If you could start again would you? (5/2/2015 3:25:41 AM)

Yes I have done some stupid mistakes that had far reaching consequences.
And at least in these cases, it was not possible to make things right again.

So yes we can learn by mistakes, but it is not optimal to practically have to start over from scratch when one is past the ½ way point in life.

InHisHeart -> RE: If you could start again would you? (5/2/2015 4:19:39 AM)

I wouldn't want to go back. It'd be nice to not make the mistakes I made but at my age, I wouldn't want to live through all those years again, even all the great times. I had a very good life, I've enjoyed most of my life so far but I want to keep moving forward, not go back. Now if I could foresee that every choice I have to make from this moment on is the right choice and doesn't end up being a mistake, I would go for that.

Ohhhh .. this is me too.

I don't want to go back (my past has made me who I am now) but if given a choice, I would like to know that I will be making the right decisions from here on out.

If I could guarantee that my son would still happen, then yes. Very simply I'd go back to change one word. A 'no' to a 'yes' is all it would take to change absolutely everything. Still, my health would still be what it has been, and what it is. My family would still the screw ups that they are, and I'd still had to give up the life I wanted to focus on my son that I never planned on having. It would just have meant that someone would have stayed in my life for longer, and even though he's no longer alive, I'd still take the years I could have had with him knowing that he'd still be taken from me.

I think you're right - mistakes would still be made. Just different ones.

That being said, yes, I would love to start over. Not because I need to right any wrongs. I could, of course, and probably would, but I don't feel any driving need to. No, I'd want to do it all over again because there is so much to do! There's just not enough lifetime to do everything I want to do and experience. I'd love more time than the average human lifespan and if starting life over would be how it's done, I'm in.

I'd also hold on to the condo I had 12 years ago. Sold because I wanted a "house." I'd definitely change that one. Every time I drive by those condos I think "Stupid decision!"

DesFIP -> RE: If you could start again would you? (5/2/2015 8:21:16 AM)

I regret not having gotten my masters. However, if I had done that, then I wouldn't have my children and I wouldn't change that for the world.

DaddySatyr -> RE: If you could start again would you? (5/2/2015 10:16:17 AM)

I have been cogitating on this subject for a little while, now (I first saw the post when there were no responses).

I don't think there's a human being alive that hasn't made some major mistakes in their lives.

I buy into my mistakes having made me the person I am, today and I am happy with who I am. However, I believe that we can always be a little bit better.

If I were sure of exactly what my mistakes were and what to do to truly correct them, I don't think that could do anything more than make me a better person so, I think I'd be on board.

DarkSteven -> RE: If you could start again would you? (5/2/2015 10:45:06 AM)

Absolutely. I would have had a LOT more fun with women in my teens and early 20s. I would have had a much better career path.

LittleGirlHeart -> RE: If you could start again would you? (5/3/2015 7:10:46 PM)

Yes.

sexyred1 -> RE: If you could start again would you? (5/3/2015 9:38:39 PM)

Oh god yes.

I would never have stayed so long with various relationships.

I would also like a do over where I wouldn't have gotten a serious health issue.

Fucking bad luck.

slvemike4u -> RE: If you could start again would you? (5/3/2015 11:52:25 PM)

In a New York minute, not so much to change mistakes I made but to ensure certain things never ever happened to me in the first place.

But that I would need to know how to take the information back with me and how to empower an eight year old enough so he was able to protect himself.

No easy feat......lol

SUB1Special4u -> RE: If you could start again would you? (5/5/2015 1:13:15 PM)

I would only go back a couple years to meet someone I made a promise to and we never got a chance to meet and now being I was diagnosed with cancer and had a few operations since then and dealing with all the side effects, hair loss along with the scars left from survey I will always have that regret since we had some much in common.... The wondering of what it might have been and now I am just realistic that the Cancer has ended my ever finding that one...

k10vvn -> RE: If you could start again would you? (5/7/2015 9:54:14 AM)

Ya, but its not something personal. I just would go back and make the right choices in the market and with jobs..... I'd be rich if I knew then what I know now.

smileforme50 -> RE: If you could start again would you? (5/8/2015 9:29:40 AM)

Absolutely YES
'nuff said

RockaRolla -> RE: If you could start again would you? (5/8/2015 12:06:21 PM)

I'm not sure.

For one thing, I'd definitely like to go back and bitchslap myself for being so unsure of myself and overthinking everything.

On the other, I learned a lot of hard but valuable lessons about myself and relationships that I don't think I'd have learned if I'd handled myself better from the start. I'm in a great place right now and I don't know if I'd be in this wonderful place without these lessons. So the pain's been worth it.
