MercTech -> RE: Should the 17th Amendment be Repealed? (5/16/2015 2:44:28 PM)

What we really need to do to curb the rampant federalism is to repeal the 16th amendment.

Actually that was the centerpiece of rampant centralization.

Well, I can't say that I do since mnottertail's on my blocked list, but I do see some of it. Do you see what you side inflicts on the democrats?

I'm always very polite, when people are polite to me. I always treat them as they treat me. It seems to shock liberals when s conservative treats them the way they just assume conservatives should be treated. Is pretty guess that most of the conservatives here would debate rather than argue given the chance.

KenDckey -> RE: Should the 17th Amendment be Repealed? (5/17/2015 10:34:37 AM)

I know that I prefer debate vs argument and name calling

kdsub -> RE: Should the 17th Amendment be Repealed? (5/17/2015 11:38:43 AM)

As do I... but I do loose my temper now and then... to me it is a weakness to be fought. There are few reasons for me to loose respect for some one...certainly not a difference of opinion...but resorting to insults and unnecessarily ridiculing someones beliefs is the number one reason for me.
Sadly it is all too common here.

Butch

That is because when they say you are delusional, don't care about the facts, stupid or lying they don't think they are insulting you. Attacking a conservatives character is not considered an insult, just a statement of fact.

I think liberals get that insults are insulting but as someone on the other side of the isle just mentioned, liberals justification for their behavior is often much the same as HunterCA's. That the behavior of the conservatives they're dealing with more than warrants it.

As for the Anti-fact stuff...well show of hands, how many conservatives in the thread blatantly dispute at least one main stream scientific consensus AND for bonus points, how many use a conspiracy theory in order to justify doing so?

I and most conservatives do not engage in personal attacks unless in response to them. When I am attacked and respond in kind I am consistently (note I did not say always) told that I started the insults.

mnottertail -> RE: Should the 17th Amendment be Repealed? (5/20/2015 12:09:42 PM)

'conservatives' basic premises are wide swaths of innuendo and impugnment. I call asswipe. They don't post anything that is not a personal attack against everyone who is not as cretinous as they.

Anyway, the 17th Amendment should not be repealed and the president should be elected the same way.

Firstly I'd like to propose that discussions on these topics have a tendency to get gradually heated in such a way that everybody can easily come out of it feeling like they were maligned first.

Second have you considered not feeding other people's bad behavior?

I usually ignore the first couple. Often I point out that insults aren't needed. Some people don't understand anything else. They claim that their insults prove they are right. How many times are you called an idiot or a racist based on someone misquoting you before you fight back. That said when a person proves that they will not engage in civil conversation I put them on hide and no longer worry about them.

PS the problem isn't that I fight back, it is that they cannot debate without insults and pure character assassination.

Why would you use an example the ramblings of Scalia? He goes on and on about the structure of government mandated in the Constitution and the division of power it creates. He holds this division as a guarantor of our democracy that separates us from other pretenders to true democracy.

Then he rants against the 17th that in itself allows for division of power in states with single party majorities. In my state of Missouri without the direct election of Senators by the people the majority of the population, in big cities, would have no representatives in the Senate. Rural Republicans representing the minority of population would appoint Republican Senators ignoring the majority's wishes.

Not good in my opinion...let the people speak.

Butch

I'd say how quickly they forget but it has been 100 years but those state houses were corrupt as hell and we'd have the same senate or worse.

Plus, if you ask me as an example, that drinking age bill would still pass because this is America and [it] is always...all about the fucking money.
