...annoys me for some reason. Know the guy?
Why buy 2000 books in one go... Even if he did read a book per day like he says (which I doubt), that's still roughly 6 years worth of solid reading... -_-
Did he just ring a shop and ask them to send him 2000 books or something.

I have no idea what guy you are talking about. It would be awesome to have a library, but just ordering all those books at one time, seems to take a lot of the joy out of browsing through books until you find one you want to own. I would have probably never come across my favorite book if I hadn't been out browsing and lusting over the books in Barnes and Noble.

This guy. His Ad is really obnoxious, but I couldn't find it.
I think he has a book buying addiction...

PS, what's your favourite book?

If you like ebooks, free books, and free eboojs, you should check out http://www.bookbub.com/.

You set your reading preferences...ie historical romance, fantasy, etc. Every day you get an email with that day's specials, usually $0.99 - $3.99, along with a couple of free offerings. I have seriously picked up close to 300 free books since Christmas. Books can be downloaded thru Kindle/Kindle for Android, Google and Kobo. Desk top, lap top, tablet, phone........

And no, this is not a paid promotional advertisement, lol. I just like to read.

Oh yeah.....definitely

I have "The Prophet" and "Sand and Foam" ....beautiful

Winsme....have you ever read Rainer Maria Rilke? I like "Letters to a Young Poet"

I have a lot of great books on my shelves....but it was always an effort to actually sit down and read anything. Funny thing though....I think this is so weird....I bought a Kindle Paperwhite a couple of years ago. I was so afraid that I was spending $100 on this thing and it was just going to sit on the shelf like the rest of my books. Now I take it with me wherever I go and I've probably read about 30 books in 2 years. (Which might not be a lot for some folks....but for me that was like going from 0 to 60mph in 3 seconds)

@smile,
30 books in 2 years is great! Trying to read like 5 books at the same time like the guy in my first link, just comes off like this to me:

@Winsome,
That book sounds interesting, I'll definitely have a little look!

I love E books! I bought a Nook Color and loved it, until I found out there was an app I could download on my phone.
Now the Nook sits on my desk mostly neglected. My grandson calls it HIS tablet. He watches Netflix on it. That Nook is the toughest little thing. I've had it 4 years now, which is a long life for me where electronics are concerned.

Smiles, I've never heard of that author, but I'll check into it. Thanks.

I don't read as often as I like. I'm a binge reader. I'll lock myself away for a day or two until the book is finished.

I love love love free e books. It's like Christmas every time I come across one.
In fact, one my favorites: The Island, by Michael Stark was a free e book. The first two were free and the series so good I bought the third and fourth and have been impatiently cursing the author for being a slacker on the fifth and I think final book.

I wrote a book report on Peter Benchley's The Island in the fourth grade... got in trouble, sent to the office, my sister had to swear before congress that she didn't write it. Still loved the book tho.

Lol. I've gone up during oral exams to "read" my book reports with blank papers. Always got high grades for my un-"written" reports.

By the time I was in first grade I'd read most of the entire Nancy Drew series of books. Not exactly Classics but I started in kindergarten.

Hahahhaha there's a reason I edited oral into the text. Glad you didn't disappoint.

dont think i have seen that ad.. i have a lot of ebooks now.. i used to get real books but they take up a lot of physical space..

I decided as a child that there were too many books in the world and had to make some decisions, so I decided then that I will read only non-fiction (to learn stuff). I dont normally "read" them like you would read fiction, i tend to use books as reference material... and I have to see a use for the book/info so i tend to focus on specific topics like architecture, construction, certain crafts, cooking, etc..

I think I may be getting targeted by creepy internet marketing that follows you around the Internet. Most of the Ads I see are book related. :/ And speaking of creepy! How does Facebook know that I know people, when I haven't even interacted with them online! That's super creepy. It asked me if I knew the secretary of one of my old employers recently, and I was like... "I didn't even know her name until now!?!?"

About e-books. I used to love them, and they do make reading so much more accessible! But I ended up really forcing myself to invest in hardcopies. I'm currently working on getting an off-grid cabin. It's not so much a question over Internet access or even electricity, since both those challenges seem to have relatively simple solutions... But when I think of the whole idea of getting away from it all... charging up devices, downloading media and just generally being connected isn't it. I wanted it to be somewhere to disconnect... So I started buying physical books again... (now the possible hypocrisy of me finding that book guy's buying habits annoying, is starting to kick in lol. Since...) I try to buy at least 2 books for every 1 I read. My bookshelf is a wonderful combination of familiarity and the unknown. It's part of its allure, but also, I'm stockpiling reading material... Come to think of it having a bookshelf with 2000 books I haven't read yet would probably have me standing in front of it drooling...
But I still find that guy annoying =P

@tj444,
I'm mainly a fiction reader myself but it's probably a good idea to put some practicality in a bookshelf too!

I love your idea of buying 2 books for every one you want to read. That's brilliant.

So, I am on a couple groups on Facebook where the question is frequently asked; What are the things you'd do and where would you go during an Apocolypse. For some reason most say Walmart? I almost always say the library, before some dumbass burns all the how to books. Not to mention, Michael Stark, Stephen King, Christine Feehan (yes I love supernatural romances,) etc.

Thanks WD,

Apocalypse aye. Your groups sound weird. But you know, I have friends that say they could never kill someone in a million years. To which I say "sure you could, if you needed to survive..." But it makes me feel a little weird, when I know without a doubt... If I was in an apocalypse situation, killing would be the least of what I'd be capable of... Like, seriously... Choppin people up, stuffing them into freezers Hannibal Lecter style and that wouldn't even be the tip of the iceberg...
That's not too weird is it?

Lol, Cell.
So long as I'm not on the menu. But you gotta be tough and weird to live where it rains spiders that grow the size of dogs.
Australia sounds to me like it is already riding out the Apocolypse. Also, I'm a fan of the weird. My groups are mostly The Walking Dead groups with a couple Survival groups thrown in for fun.
