Dont read any further if you are very sensitive to traumatic news

Suspect in 4 gruesome D.C. killings might not have acted alone, police say

There are a lot of news articles about this event, and I have read more than a few. This man and his wife:

And their housekeeper, and their ten-year-old boy were all murdered by this man:

And some accomplices

One report that I saw stated that the entire family was tortured over approximately ten hours. Every other report that I have read states that only the boy was tortured prior to being murdered. The three adults were reportedly stabbed and bludgeoned to death, but the boy was doused with gasoline while still alive, and set of fire

The family arranged to have $40,000 delivered to the house during the time they were being held, meaning that robbery was at least a part of the crime

I just wonder if the depravity of the crime overall, was inspired by the growing racial tensions in this country. And to what degree did a sense of entitlement play, if any

I saw this on an episode of Law and Order, Whoopie Goldburg was the criminal mastermind.

As for it being a hate crime, I have seen no evidence of it yet.

For the purpose of the thread, a "hate crime" is defined by applicable federal and / or state laws. You might waste your time inventing useless personal definitions for various things, but I do not. Society uses common definitions so that we can easily communicate with each other

Having our own definition for things defeats that

Since joether's intention is to get attention, defeating the purpose of having a debate is the purpose.

I imagine there is rarely evidence of what a person may have been thinking while committing such crimes. Wouldnt the difference in race, the torture, and the method of killing the boy after the ransom was paid suffice?

Thats what I am trying to understand.

That's why I don't know. The attackers may just have been extremely brutal. It looks like the victims were targeted because they were rich, not because they were white.

Heinous.

So, what is that definition? Did you actually say "so that we can easily communicate with each other"? What is the common definition for hate crime and does it matter? You are dead either way. So, although the young boy was used as a pin cushion in front of his parents, do we define it as a hate crime and are we really missing the point by trying to put a label on it, because that is what we are doing if we define this as a "hate crime", we are putting another label on something that needs no label other than what it might be called before some politicians decided to pander to a segment of society that feels that crimes against them need to have special emphasis.

I think the death and torture of a small boy is empasis enough. String him/them up if he/they are found guilty. Right there on a gallows on the front lawn of the crime scene and call it American Justice should you need more labels.

I am with you on a lot of that

But if we are going to have hate crime laws they need to be evenly enforced. The above mentioned crime occurred in Washington DC, which has a very poor record in that regard

To wit:

quote:

Politics Interfering With D.C. Hate Crimes Law

Last week, a man with a master's degree from George Mason University, a gun and 50 rounds of ammo walked into the Family Research Council. When a building manager named Leo Johnson blocked his entry, he shot Leo in the arm.

Leo Johnson wrestled the shooter to the ground, saving untold lives. The shooter then begged for mercy from the unarmed man, saying something like, "Don't shoot me. It was not about you. It was what this place stands for."

In the shooter's backpack were 15 Chick-fil-A sandwiches, which he apparently planned to drop on the bodies of the many people he wanted to kill. The shooter's parents later told police that he "has strong opinions with respect to those he believes do not treat homosexuals in a fair manner."

The shooter (whom I refuse to name) has been charged with assault with intent to kill and with bringing a firearm across state lines. But he has not been charged with violating D.C.'s hate crime laws...

The D.C. anti-bias statute is quite broad and its language clearly includes politically motivated crimes:

"'Bias-related crime' means a designated act that demonstrates an accused's prejudice based on the actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, marital status, personal appearance, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, family responsibility, homelessness, physical disability, matriculation, or political affiliation of a victim of the subject designated act." D.C. Code 22-3701.

On Aug. 16 the Anti-Defamation League issued a press release and called on the Metropolitan Police to investigate the crime as a possible hate crime:

"We are confident that the Metropolitan Police Department will fully investigate this crime. If the facts reveal that the perpetrator was motivated by unlawful bias, law enforcement authorities should consider prosecution under the D.C. Bias Crime Statute."

So why hasn't the shooter been charged with a hate crime?

With that in mind, I am curious to see what happens in this case, what the motive may have been, and how these charges pan out

With the difference being that Joe has no interest in a debate, he just craves attention. Posting things for which you believe a lively conversation will ensue is different.

Clearly the animals that did this were full of hate. Question is for who.
Rich people, striking a blow against the 1%, white people, striking a blow for the oppressed black man, or everyone standing in their way. Are they mindless copycats of the Law and Order episode I mentioned earlier?

I have to input this. In my opinion, despite how much the leftists want to make thought a crime, there is no such thing as a hate crime. Oh I know somehow we have gotten this perversion on the books. But, it is immoral and stupid to arrest people and throw them in jail for what they think. On that same hand, if you kill someone it doesn't make them any more or less dead to think of them in a good or bad way. Killing, raping, looting and pillaging are those things and we don't treat you differently for doing them just because you were thinking something that is currently not fashionable.

I am opposed to hate crime law as well. I also consider it to be a thought crime. On the other hand I am inclined to consider all crime to be hate crime, if only to the degree that they hate someone who has what they want.

You are so 1950`s

It is as though you are suggesting the Klan just killed due to a lust for murder, and nothing to do with killing due to skin colour........ Grow some balls and tell it like it is.

Next you will be suggesting 9/11 wasnt a hate crime, because thats exactly what it was. A group of ideological misfits who turned to terrorism because they didnt like America.

BRAVO!

Hate speech, hate crime, terrorist, terror crime etc are all 'bear trap' buzz words that infiltrated our court system which are gross over-generalizations designed for public consumption for the sole purpose of convincing/moving nonthinking sectors of the public to ellicit immediate verdicts and consequently support a political agenda by use of the word side stepping the need to litigate the elements of a specific crime.

None of these kinds of buzz words have a legitimate place in law or governance. They do serve however to promote political based agendas quite well.

Now now PS. First off, hate crimes here, I don't know about there, were instituted by leftists as a means to control the thoughts of people. You know how people on the left really really don't like it when people think anything other than what is told to them at kool aide time. The left never imagined they wouldn't always be in control of thought crimes. But, as you see with your last election, that's not something you can always count upon.

So, you must be very careful. Someone might just take power who identifies hate as crotchety old men who are constantly cranky. You could be put in jail. Without Internet connection in jail, I'd miss you.

Hilarious

Thats why the freak who tried to shoot up the Christians and then drop chick-fil-a sandwiches on their dead bodies wasnt prosecuted for a thought crime

Thats why the perps I posted about in the OP will never be prosecuted for thought crimes

The prosecution of thought crimes depends on who is in power

There is a legal definition on the books, but that means very little in reality

And BTW, the clan started out as a reaction to God damn Yankee carpet baggers legally looting the south during reconstruction. A cause I'm somewhat sympathetic to. How it ended up the despicable thing it was/is I'm not sure. I haven't studied. And that just proves my point. The intent of the power structure may very well change over time. Make sure you can live with that power structure no matter who controls it, because eventually someone you don't agree with is going to have their hands on the reigns. That's something liberal leftists tend to forget.
