It is one thing to tell people what they can eat when you are paying for it, quite another when they are.

SO you think anyone that gets "government money" should have their lives micromanaged in this way?
Government employees, the military, everyone who takes a penny from the government
imagine the cost of having that ability....a tad more times the cost of inspecting the poor

I was in the military. As I recall, my life was micromanaged quite a bit...as was my First Sergeant's, my Captain's, etc. Now part of that may have had something to do with the unit I chose to serve with and part of it may have had something to do with the people paying our wages...the taxpayers through the government...wanting us to do something to earn all that "big money" I was receiving in wages. Why shouldn't those same wage-payers expect to see something for the money they pay to help the (always) struggling poor?

As to your earlier post about education and poverty. No one denies that there is poorer education in some urban areas. And yet, there's Jay-Z, Bill Cosby (and no, his troubles have nothing to do with where he came from or his drive to make himself somebody), Bob Marley, Trevor Faure, Martin Luther King...how did they make it? Luck?

Perhaps it is time to change our way of looking at this from a structural point of view back to a cultural point of view, as the author of this piece...a black sociologist himself...suggests.

Of course, that would take some upheaval of long-entrenched positions and a recognition of personal responsibility.

When you speak of ugliness, I'm pretty sure that refers to your hate-filled views on everything NOT in the "victim" class...whites, males, Jews.

What's not to love? That would be your analysis of what people are based on their disagreement with you.

So why does Dominoes or any other chain for that matter have to put their 34,000,000 food combinations on the wall with their calorie information? Will there be enough wall? Will McDonalds have to post different menues for a big mac with cheese, without cheese, with mayo, without mayo, with .......

Chipotle, Starbucks, and Panera post calorie counts. It's super valuable information, and posting it is not a "hardship."

I'm not even sure we can consider McDonalds offerings "food."

well yeah, but I have eaten it, and the last time I did, you got a box with a "burger" in it, you didnt get to choose what the items were, which is why i use wendys...if I eat burgers at all.
I can count on one hand the number of burgers Ive had in ten years.
Obviously people not understanding that calories, fat, salt, carbs etc ad nauseam on packages are NOT government controlling what you eat have missed out on the health craze that permeates every aspect of your life....well, im off for a sausage and bacon sammich, anyone want one?

Personally looking at HFCS to be removed from foods is more important.

Yep.

Any sort of sweetener, really, in processed foods. If I bake something sweet, it's sweetened with honey or maple syrup.

HFCS - more evidence to me as to why I will not trust the government's nutritional guidelines.

I prefer honey, over maple syrup....maple is to me a flavour, honey is just sweet...if that makes sense
but I still use sugar when Im cooking
Corn syrup was something I had never heard of before i moved over here, and Ive never used it in a recipe.
I dont trust food manufacturers to be honest....especially with shit like aspartame

When I first landed in New Zealand, the first time I had ever been out of the country, I bought a Coke. It tasted different. I knew right away it tasted different. I looked at the ingredients - no HFCS! It was made with cane sugar. It's still something I avoid these days, but it was a wake-up call for me at the time how things could be different. Now I'm all buyer beware about my food. We have to be.
