I'm probably too late for your trip now....but if you ever want to see some interesting art....Philly is loaded with it, and not just in the museums. There's a big thing called the Mural Arts Program that was started originally as a way to clean up graffitti. They commissioned artists to paint murals on buildings all over the city. You certainly can just pick them out on your own as you walk around town, but they also have some great tours.

I haven't left yet, and I LOVE mural projects that take the art to the public. I am a huge fan of the muralism movement that started after the Mexican Revolution, and have visited several of the cities to study the works. This is right up my alley. Thank you!

Great! Glad I could help. Did you get a chance to look at that website?

OK, just realized that I never posted on this again after my trip, which I had intended to do. Thank you all for your suggestions. I didn't have as much free time as I thought I was going to have, as there were some unforeseen issues that kept us busy. But I did get to some of the suggestions and was very glad for them. Thank you all!

Reading terminal market is fun tourist and good eats.

Loved Reading Market Terminal. We were at the convention center every day except for one, so I got to try several places there for lunch each day.

Mural Arts Tours

I went on the "Love Letters" tour....was REALLY cool. I've seen these murals so many times before and now it's neat knowing the story behind them.

We ended up with one day entirely free, where we just hit the streets to see what we ran into, without an itinerary. I saw one of the murals, and remembered this post. Pulled the site up on my phone, and saw it has self-guided walking tours. Me and my buddy ended up doing both of them, and catching a lot of other cool places along the way. This was probably my favorite part of the trip. So thank you!

My pedometer logged us as walking 13 miles that day. It certainly felt like it.
