ORIGINAL: PeonForHer FR I do get the sense that there's a polarisation going on: black people getting more and more angry about police who seem to have got away with brutal treatment, versus cops who are getting more and more angry about their authority being so picked apart in the media. What's been happening in the USA over the last few years has been making me think of Spike Lee's 'Do the Right Thing', over and again. Jeez. Policing only works by consent. The words 'thin blue line' and the notion of 'police *services* are crucially borne in mind by all sides, I would say. It's sad, but the left has been using the black community for fifty years. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton as race batters and welfare pimps. Leftist politicians telling them vote for me and I'll give you more free stuff. Then implementing silly Marxist policies that haven't worked anywhere. The dialog that Eric Holder should have had was why the black community believe "more" of the policies the left have foisted on them for fifty years will have any different effect. It's sad, but the right have been using the white-trash-maybe-a-1%'er-if-I-win-the-powerball. Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck are culture batters and ring wing shills. Rightwing politicians telling them to vote for me and I'll give you more freedoms (but dont). Then implementing silly rightwing conspiracies that haven't worked anywhere (or at any time, like 'Trickle Down' Theory). The dialog that Lindsay Graham should have had was why the white trash believe "more" of the guns the right have foisted on them for fifty years will have any different effect. Yeah, I basically used your bullshit above, taking certain things out and inputting other ideas to arrive at the same concept from the direct opposite. The problem here is there exist people whom are very intelligent and well studied, whom have no morals about manipulating people for their own political ends. These individuals know the 'Low Information Voter' very well. Knows what their hopes, dreams, ideas and yes, their fears in very defining context. These people push the media down very ugly places; sometimes without knowing it until everything is over (and to late). For every video you can find of some police officer behaving bad, I could (with time and research) find....why...that officer behaved the way they did. Often we have many videos that start...AFTER....some crucial or critical piece of evidence/event has transpired. The holding of the video may be honest and stated events as factually and truthfully known; but I've seen many such videos in which the holder of the camera left critical information out that would place things in context. That you think police are more likely to be evil than good, simply shows your perception of reality, and reality, are two very different things. Police officers are held to a very high level of accountability and responsibility. Often having to make very tough decisions within the span of a few seconds. What would most people do if placed in such situations without the training and practice these officers are required to show? I give police officers the benefit of the doubt....unless....there is compelling evidence that might show otherwise. The police have a duty to not lose faith with the community they serve. At the same time its the duty of the community to stay rational, calm, and have patience when things do operate normally. When 'shit hits the fan', the matter has to be investigated. An its for the good citizens to sit down, examine everything and make tough decisions on how to proceed.
