I think the political section went straight downhill with the so-called "feisty" section.

Then why is Current Affairs, the moderated political section, a graveyard?

K.

I won't name the names, but most of the members that get into the political back and forth are the same ones that enjoy slinging mud like second graders, so that's where the discussions get started. That definitely does NOT mean that the quality of the discussions has gotten better in the "feisty" section. Far from it. I, for one, would definitely enjoy the political discussions more if they were conducted by people actually acting like adults. Maybe I'm alone in this, but that is my opinion.

Firstly, you're refuting a point I never made. I haven't said anything whatsoever about the quality of the discussions. Secondly, anybody who can type and hit Enter can start a discussion on any topic that interests them (within limits) anywhere they like. If you don't like the Feisty section, fine. Post in Current Affairs. What's the problem? Why go out of your way to piss in somebody else's Wheaties?

Oh come on, when it comes to politics and religion people don't act like adults. They defend their corner like a government official covering up a cock up.

No, you're not alone. From what I've seen mostly from the scroll box, much of it appears to be petty bickering. I may have accidentally wandered over there a couple of times, a stranger in a strange land.

Nothing against the old-timers in general, some of whom are missed and some who aren't. A moratorium for a one-time lift on permabans might be in order, before cracking down again.

I'm still waiting for separate color coding for switches than that of subs-slaves. [&:]

I don't care if they never add Top/bottom or fetishist categories. It isn't just the noobs who don't know any different. Guys and gals who've been at this for upwards of 30 years still don't know or don't care, and it's hardly relevant unless that person's only interested in finding play partners.
Subcategories might help, like sadistic Top or masochistic bottom, either to screen for or to screen out.

I don't know about anybody else, but if I want to stay in touch with someone who's not reachable on another site in common, I'm swapping e-mail addresses, and I rarely do this under ordinary circumstances.

I don't post much because well, there aren't many live threads going on. An influx of new people would be good IMO but who knows if that would ever happen. It is a shame because I cannot stand the format of FL, not a single bit of it. This format I do like, it is easy to read and find threads, I like how it isn't segregated into groups you have to join before posting.

It is almost like I pop in here more out of habit than out of actual interest or inspiration, that does make me a bit sad but when there are only a few new threads a day.. that is boring for me.

Is the old gal winding down toward extinction?

I think circling the drain is probably the most accurate description of it's present condition.

^^ This ^^

Imo, it went to crap right after the fight over the collarme website & it hasnt come back, everyone either abandoned ship or when the site was changed, they didnt know the new site addy (or didnt care).. and few have come back.. which means the chats have become boring with the same few actors.. same stuff repeated over and over and over.. (yawn)

I wouldn't have found CS after that incident if I wasn't already browsing the forums. I'm sure there were a lot of users who just weren't aware of the move.

shiftyw -> RE: Is the old gal dying? (6/12/2015 6:58:41 PM)

It needs some updates.

I feel like the otherwise is fine but this forum side is pretty silly.
This site has never been a site, in my opinion, that attracts that coveted 18-22 demographic.
Okcupid does, FL does, FB does- in its design, functionality, user base and application.

This site is clunky. I think Mod3 does a great job here- but I wouldn't do it. FL, FB, and Okc all have people on staff.

Frankly I think it's insane this place is volunteer run- and I think this is a money issue. FL relies on donations- but in turn they provide a much sleeker service than this site. While I don't like the groups over there and rather a big forum- FL pays its coders and so it's rarely down.

I'm not sure of the financials of this site- but- it seems to me fixing these technical issues would be much faster were there a solid paid team.

shiftyw -> RE: Is the old gal dying? (6/12/2015 7:00:33 PM)

Also, were I to get gold mail right now I'd have no idea because I haven't been able to get onto the otherwise and actually have it load for upwards of two weeks.

Moderator3 -> RE: Is the old gal dying? (6/12/2015 7:42:42 PM)

shiftyw, if you can tell me how you access the site, I can look into this. We have no reports on something like this if others are going through it and I might be able to do something. I can't promise anything at the moment, but I can try. If I had a safe way to give you a way to contact me, I could, but I am not announcing my contact on the forum!

So are you on a phone, ipad or anything other than a pc?

I'm sorry you are unable to access the other side.

MariaB -> RE: Is the old gal dying? (6/13/2015 12:48:31 AM)

After the fight and the initial bruising, CS did jump back into life. It stayed lively for a while before suddenly falling away again.

There was so much shit spreading during the fall out. Even I was getting private messages on the other side from ex moderators who had never spoken to me before. They revelled in the fall out and were determined to keep the fire burning by discourage as many people as possible from coming back to the site. I was quite amused when these unknown faces (ex mods) messaged me because I wasn't even on this site any more; the cliquey mods and some of the bitchy regulars had driven me away a good six months prior to the fall out. Rumours are normally just an unfair distortions of the truth. This gossip was a way of making there own failings more tolerable. For me it was like 'fuck yes' I want to go back now!

Some of the people who left with CM had a grudge to grind, other weak individuals jumped on that grinders band wagon and took sides but many of them came back here with different or the same profiles, even some of the biggest stone throwers; even if it was just to have another dig. This thread was bound to bring some of those ego feeders out of the woodwork...they just can't stay away!!

Once a persons/site/organizations reputation is ruined, it can never be reclaimed, even if it was ruined falsely. Unfortunately people will always remember the scandal. CS if its going to survive and pull through this bleak period are going to have to work really hard and have a lot of patience.

CS is the good old burger bar down the street that now stands next to Mcdonalds....Its a tough call and its only hope is to forget many of its old regulars and focus more on its new customers who prefer the more simple but antiquated look of the place.

shiftyw -> RE: Is the old gal dying? (6/13/2015 11:09:47 AM)

iPad/iPhone mostly, it loads on my Mac.

It seems like today it is loading, eventually- it has been taking an eternity though.

Same here. Everything is so slow as to be unusable and there doesn't seem to be a fix in sight for it and with no updates as to what is going on its easy to think that the site won't ever be fixed.

Lawrence111 -> RE: Is the old gal dying? (6/13/2015 1:59:02 PM)

I have been a user here since 2004 and must admit that as of the moment due to (at least) the slowness, it is pretty much unusable.

Pity :(

Moderator3 -> RE: Is the old gal dying? (6/13/2015 2:31:39 PM)

shifty, please access with your mac on the other side and I will send an email to you with two links for the phone, I'm unsure about the ipad at this point. There have been some reports about the phones and when they tried the links they must have gotten the answer because we haven't heard from them after that.

The site is being fixed, it is just taking a very long time. I have nothing more at this point. I'm very sorry.

The site needs to have a banner at the top saying this as not everyone is aware of this thread.

maidglasgow -> RE: Is the old gal dying? (6/14/2015 5:10:23 AM)

This site's one selling point is that it is focused on contact. FL is social media; something I have little interest in.

There are a number of issues on the site that in my opinion need overhauled:

Speed (I know this is a current issue, but the site is unusable, and I am logging in less and less)
Dead profiles - some of them haven't logged in since 2005 - this is sortable with a script
Poor search - it needs a more focused search e.g. a sub who likes spanking in your town etc. A generic keyword field isn't enough

That is my two cents worth.

In response to the original post, the site is simply dated. If the business model isn't working for them they need to find a better one. Anonymous payments might be a good idea too. I would willingly pay for a good service.

By old gal I mean Collarme . . . Collarspace . . . whatever.

We seem to have come a long way from the glory days when there were several lively debates - debates of wit and profundity argued by intelligent and interesting personalities - going on at the same time. Now, after the civil war and the attempted coup, the steam seems to have gone out of the site. Most threads are of the liberals are stupid/conservatives are stupid variety. Participation is way down. The powers that be can't seem to fix the photo uploading problem - or perhaps they can't be bothered. I get a ' the best lack all conviction, the worst are filled with passionate intensity' vibe every time I'm on.

So . . .

Is the old gal winding down toward extinction?

Is a renaissance, a rebounding, of the site possible?

What would it take to turn things around?

I think there are only so many times the same subjects can be discussed with vigour. That's not to say the site isn't interesting, but when someone has been around 10 plus years then you've probably heard everything there is to be said.

I wasn't here when the fabled Civil War took place, who won? The Roundheads? but quite frankly it is very strange behaviour to start rioting when it's a place to share ideas. The fact some people couldn't settle down and get on with it tells you more about them than anything to do with the site.

As someone said, a few new people with something different to say would help.

I could be wrong here, but the people involved in the political discussions about say 6 or 7 years back were not the people who had differences of opinions with the mods. They simply drifted away one by one, probably because of a change in circumstances in their lives.

The people who were missing when I came back very rarely were involved in political discussions.

Nice to see the ability to remove disagreeable posts is still working just fine.

NorthernGent -> RE: Is the old gal dying? (6/14/2015 2:16:36 PM)

I must just be the sort of person who lands on his feet because I've never had any problems accessing the site.

Isn't this all a bit dramatic, though?

Some people fell out over what was more than likely some bollocks of complete insignificance in the grand scheme of life.

So what? Probably best these people went their separate ways. Doesn't mean the site is irretrievably ruined.

I have no idea who left in a huff, but I doubt it was any of the more informed posters of years gone back in the political section.

Admittedly, I have no idea what the problem was but a cyber spat is not life threatening.
