A witness told the Wiener Zeitung newspaper that dead bodies were left lying face down in the road after the vehicle sped through streets near the the historical Herrengasse in Graz.

The killing only stopped when the driver parked his battered car outside a police station.

More than 30 pedestrians, including three children, were hurt at several locations during the rampage and 10 victims were in hospital with serious injuries. One patient was in a critical condition on Saturday afternoon.

The driver, identified by police as a 26-year-old Austrian man of Bosnian heritage, has been arrested. He works as a professional driver and is married with two children.

Police are not currently investigating terrorism as a motive and the suspect is believed to be suffering from mental illness...


So the obvious questions are, what new laws are needed to stop this? And how can we change Australian culture, to keep this sort of thing from ever happening again.

Status: offline 		We'll have to look into how many cars are in the hands of people there, maybe place limits on that. It looks like knives are pretty readily available. So tragic, those poor people. Something has to change.

I told her to go and check her passport !!. you have to remember that the first time that Australia won a gold medal at some Olympics or other ( don't ask me which) the band didn't know the difference either and played the Austrian one instead.

Status: offline 		I was in the U.S. a few years back. I won't say which city to protect the innocent. I have a fairly pronounced east end ( London) accent and the guy I was with had a thick Dutch accent and the local we were talking to asked where we were from. We told him we were from Australia............one from South Australia and one from Queensland. He said " yeah, I thought I recognised the accent.......................Australia ? That's somewhere down south isn't it ". We agreed that it most definitely was and continued choking on our 'sex by the sea'.
I have no idea if he was a lefty or a righty and I really didn't care either but I have found that many americans couldn't find maybe one in ten countries on any given atlas, regardless of the pretty colours. So, not only tunnel-visioned but colour-blind too maybe ?
