Quite a sticky wicket we have here.....

Council of Conservative Citizens Promotes White Primacy, and G.O.P. Ties

This isn`t the only group....

There`s a good run here for any reporter or blogger who wants it.

You must not have read the whole article...

....The support could cross party lines: In the late 1990s, one council member boasted that 34 members of the Mississippi Legislature, mostly Democratic, were council members as well....

Wasn't the KKK founded by a democrat from the 10th tennessee congressional district? Oh, that is George Gordon (amongst the first 6)

Democrats started and ran the KKK, and until very recently kept a senior Klan leader in one of the highest offices in the land

quote:

Robert Byrd

Let’s look at Byrd first. In retrospect, it’s rather remarkable that he rose — twice — to be Senate majority leader with such a past. He not only led a KKK chapter, but he organized it and recruited 150 friends to join it. He was unanimously elected an “Exalted Cyclops.” In fact, the effort launched his entrée into politics, as an impressed Klan official told him “the country needs young men like you in the leadership of the nation.”

As our former colleague Eric Pianin wrote in a 2005 article for The Washington Post titled “A Senator’s Shame,” Byrd repeatedly tried to write off his membership in the KKK as some sort of youthful indiscretion. “My only explanation for the entire episode is that I was sorely afflicted with tunnel vision — a jejune and immature outlook — seeing only what I wanted to see because I thought the Klan could provide an outlet for my talents and ambitions,” Byrd wrote in his book, “Robert C. Byrd: Child of the Appalachian Coalfields.”

But Pianin noted that the book left out some key facts: “He does not acknowledge the full length of time he spent as a Klan organizer and advocate. Nor does he make any mention of a particularly incendiary letter he wrote in 1945 complaining about efforts to integrate the military.” In the letter, written to one of the Senate’s most notorious segregationists, Theodore Bilbo (D-Miss.), Byrd said he would never fight in the Army with African Americans at his side: “Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels.”

Well, its more murky than that, republicans came from democrats who were anti-slavery, or whigs who were anti disunion or nativist leanings, anti catholic. So, Whigs who were pro slavery and so on went democratic.

But really? regional issue, southern agriculture, northern manufacturing.

however, the principles of that 150 years ago have almost completely reversed in the parties.

HunterCA -> RE: White supremists and the grand old party...... (6/23/2015 2:41:10 PM)

Let's be realistic here. The southern Democrats who were members of the KKK were democrats just because Lincoln was a Republican. There were problems of racism because of the way the war ended and Reconstruction occurred.

That's in the past. The racism that I'm concerned about now is the kind they teach in schools. They teach a minority can't be a racist because only a white person with power can be racist. The left is institutionalizing racism now.

mnottertail -> RE: White supremists and the grand old party...... (6/23/2015 2:48:14 PM)

Reconstruction began nearly right after the start of the Civil war, really. But the Johnson reconstruction, or lack thereof was at issue, not Abe.

I dont know that they teach that in school, unless they shoehorn it in with the washington and chopping down the cherry tree fantasy, or that Abe wrote in coal on the back of a shovel by firelight, or that Ronald Reagan was a cowboy.

Really ? Would you not say that slavery was a form of racism ! You can piss and moan all you like, but you cant change facts. I think it more likely the Klan was against reconstruction as it was designed to give blacks political power and equality. You also overlook that the original clan had declined until the early 20th century and were revived by those against Catholics, Blacks, Jews and the Unions.

there is that yes...

and on the whole what I see are a few prominent republicans returning donations/cutting ties with the group when the group's philosophies become known.

other than a token mention of the one fellow (rogers) who has ties to the group and is involved in tea party activities (so what??), this "story" as conceived by the OP has as much serious weight as the gop presidential candidates having had their photos taken with josh duggar.

Obviously you're just picking off posts to troll again. But, let's look at your idiocy. Let's see. Boka Haram, a black group captures villages, kills the men and enslaves the women, black women. Is that racist? Thai peasant parents, asians, sell their daughters into prostitution/slavery, to asian people. Is that racism? Julius Ceasar concurred Gaul and enslaved the entire people. Was that racism?

yeah, thats some pretty kiss your sister shit there ShiteaterCA. They didnt do it simply because they were different looking bastards, and thought of as sub-human, simply thought of as slaves and treated that way (as an institution). I understand you dont have the intellect to comprehend, but I will say it anyhow.

So everyone else of any worth can laugh at you as well.

Here's an idea, look up race, racism and so on in the dictionary, see if your mom can explain it to you.

Lucylastic -> RE: White supremists and the grand old party...... (6/24/2015 10:17:39 AM)

Giving us all revised history on the history of racism, is all anyone on the right can do, oh and deny racism is happening to anyone but black against whites in the 21st century, when its obviously bullshit.

HunterCA -> RE: White supremists and the grand old party...... (6/24/2015 10:34:06 AM)

Actually the Romans did look down on the Gauls and other peoples as sub human. They called them barbarians.

This is actually not a sticky wicket at all. The playbook of the GOP is to avoid anything OVERTLY RACIST while essentially adopting the overtly racist political platform minus the overtly racist stuff.

Anti-Immigration - check

Guns - Check

Anti-Government - Check

Maintaining the United States as a “Christian country,” - check

Denouncing Homosexualtiy - Check

Opposing sex education, Planned Parenthood - Check

mnottertail -> RE: White supremists and the grand old party...... (6/24/2015 12:24:37 PM)

Yeah, no.

We called non-Norwegians scraelings, we were equal opportunity slavers, anyone who was not norwegian, and some who were. Scraelings is sort of like screamers, which they did when you took a battle axe to their backbone to create the blood eagle.

But we shall discuss this with the Romans and the Gauls, and see if we cant bring them into the civilized world of today.

Where I come from there is a place on the coast a few miles from me known for centuries, and today, as the Barbary Coast.

It goes back to the 8th century when Vikings settled where I live but only pushed up to the boundaries of Tyneside which remained an Anglo-Saxon enclave. The Anglo-Saxons from farther up the coast termed the Viking settlement on the coast the Barbary Coast - clearly not in modern day English though!

But, really the idea of a hierarchy among races is a fairly modern invention. I think it was a Swede who came up with the idea in the late 1700s. Prior to that, both English and French colonists happily took on native women as partners.

Not one thing you named is, even if it was true and carried the connotation you want with it, is racist.

It is a well documented fact, not that the La GOP has followed David Dukes, but that he tried to mask what he truly was by hiding behind mainstream themes, like Bryd did.

The GOP is not anti immigration, they are anti immigration, a difference you seem to be incapable of comprehending.

They did, however consider people from other cultures to be inferior.
