I think many people are tired of extremism... over-reaction...political correctness...and lack of tolerance. The majority of Americans DO NOT feel the battle flag is linked to racism. This over-reaction in attempts for big business and the media to NOT seem racists ...while at the same time they enslave their workers to minimum wage is not overlooked by the majority of Americans... and they are sick of it... I am.

Just as white America within reason must be sensitive to black America they need to do the same.

Butch

As a white American myself, I have to wonder why some of my fellow white Americans would pick this battle over any other concern or issue facing America as a whole.

I actually believe that it is an important step for Americans to take an honest and forthright look at our own history, so if nothing else, at least this flag issue might spark a wider debate across all of society. It's not necessarily "political correctness" to want to put forth a more truthful and honest version of historical events, particularly a monumental turning point in our history like the Civil War. My family tree has both Unionists and Confederates, so those of us who are direct descendants of that war have an obligation to tell the truth about it and not let their personal feelings or family sentiment get in the way of that.

Neither does it mean giving the Union a pass either, since the Federal government did a lot of horrible things before, during, and after the Civil War. While the Union ostensibly supported freeing the slaves on paper, they still turned the blind eye to some of the more egregious aspects of racism (not just in the South, either) and allowed "Separate But Equal" to remain the law of the land. Their atrocities and racist massacres in the West discredited whatever moral imperative the Union government might have believed it had. These people were not humanitarians, and they certainly didn't give a shit about how workers were treated.

And what is it about the Confederate battle flag anyway? It's interesting to note that many of these same people rallying around the Confederate flag would probably froth at the mouth and scream like banshees if they saw anyone waving the Hammer-and-Sickle flag of the former Soviet Union. And yet, far more Americans were killed by those serving under the Confederate flag than any killed by those serving under the Soviet flag.

Key phrase....on paper.
The north financed the slave trade.
Meade had to march directly from Gettysburg to put down race rights, that means mass lynching of black in NYC.
At least one Union prison camp (in Chicago) executed blacks who served with the south as they came into the camp.
The north wasn't fighting to free the slaves until they needed a propaganda move to play for the English and French.
During reconstruction they set blacks up as front men to take the blame for the things they did in the south deliberately promoting racism.

This isn't the battle, it is a small part of a much larger battle.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This among other ignorant shit you say, regardless of how often you repeat it, is without credible citation. It is untrue.

Gen Meade put down anti-war draft riots in New York. Not race riots.

Lincolns man, Johnson was working against reconstruction, and cause some bad shit (he was a southernor) NOT "THEM". That is why they made some more amendments to the constitution.

TVLand will not longer show the original Dukes of Hazzard show. The cable network yanked reruns of the show this week due to controversy over the Confederate flag on the roof of the car driven by its main characters.

I will miss Daisy Duke but I certainly agree with this move. Clearly that Dodge Charger is racist and bigoted and I'm sure most Blacks will be upset to see the General with that flag on top.

What I worry about are all those Confederate flag tattoos. I say the Government should pay for free tattoo abortion clinics for those who have this flag inked on their fair and not so fair dermis.

I'll take 'Exosquad' over 'Dukes of Hazard' any day. Or 'Mask', 'COPS'.....or.....'Star Blazers'! Because unlike 'Dukes of Hazard', any of those shows had good stories (particularly Exosquad which was an epic).

If you....REALLY....miss the 'Dukes of Hazard', you can find it on on Amazon.com. Season 2 for the DVD costs just $22.99.

I can't even by the seasons for Exosquad in stores or online. So quit your bitching!

But you're still lying. This has nothing to do with free markets and profits.

They pulled it not because of bad ratings and subsequent loss of revenue but because of the controversy over the Confederate Flag, as noted by TIME Magazine (unless you think they're lying?) and The Hollywood Reporter.

Companies can be extraordinarily sensitive to bad publicity and this issue of the confederate flag was giving them that. The free market is like that: it translates people's likes and dislikes into (potential) profits and losses. That's what it's meant to do. It seems to me to be pretty useless to rage against that unless you want to control the basic mechanisms of the free market itself.

And then, what the fuck do you suppose the free market of communism is? CD, quit lying, you are hoisted upon your own petard, and now you look just plain foolish.

Yanno, if Time Magazine hadn't written that article that we were slipping razor blades into our apples, we still would be selling them, and razor blades would be as big a profit as cotton was in slavery days.....~Monsanto.....

Whatever.

Find a place where I lied and you can call me that.

The reasons for TVLand pulling Dukes of Hazzard were given in the sources I cited.

Cites for your claim?

I agree with his part of your post completely. The problems of African Americans in this country is NOT their local police departments... it is NOT fines for traffic offenses... it is NOT the battle flag of the Confederacy.... AND most certainly it is NOT the Dukes of Hazzard... Nothing will change until they realize and address the problems within their communities... Not imaginary discrimination that no one seems to be able to quantify but everyone claims is rampant.

I actually agree with you. The couple of times that I saw The Dukes of Hazard, it was awful. I don't remember the storyline, it was just awful. Don't know any of those other shows you mentioned as I am not much for TV, but I have been enjoying watching "Supernatural."

Have any of those motherfuckers held a decent job since? Are they in the IDMb top 1 million TV shows of all time, even last place? Junk is junk. Time magazine MADE them do something? Yeah, I think we have enough lies. The timeslot filler got boosted due to free market communism. Embrace the communism, you do at all other instances.

And it is turning into a windfall for people who didn't drop them.
In part because many people who would have never gotten a battle flag before will get one now. Not my opinion, some of them report a 1000% increase in sales.

PeonForHer -> RE: Dukes of Hazzard canceled due to being racist. (7/2/2015 2:14:21 PM)

FR

Come on folks, the Dukes of Hazzard wasn't *entirely* bad. Daisy Duke in her 'daisy dukes' ... agreeable backside ... spectacular ability at running in high heels ... blokes doing testicle-crunching physical things, like leaping into the 'General Lee' through the windows, in their cheescutter jeans ... sheriff's deputies with amusing names like Aenus and Cleetus ....

All right, it was a standard time-filler pisspoor 70s brainless show. But it was quite good, as standard time-filler pisspoor 70s brainless shows went, I felt. Much better than Knight Rider, though admittedly that wasn't particularly stiff competition.

I was Prisoner and Patrick McGoohan, so I think Englishmen are socialists.

PeonForHer -> RE: Dukes of Hazzard canceled due to being racist. (7/2/2015 2:18:50 PM)

The Prisoner was class, true enough. I think Patrick McGoohan hated doing it, but it was still a great series.

Number 6: Where am I?
Number 2: In the Village.
Number 6: What do you want?
Number 2: We want information.
Number 6: Whose side are you on?
Number 2: That would be telling. We want information... information... information.
Number 6: You won't get it.
Number 2: By hook or by crook, we will.
Number 6: Who are you?
Number 2: The new Number 2.
Number 6: Who is Number 1?
Number 2: You are Number 6.
Number 6: I am not a number, I am a free man.

"Who is Number One?"
"You are Number Six"
"We want information"
"You won't get it!"
"By hook or by crook, we will..."

Be Seeing you...............

Who decides what a symbol means.

The people who originated it or those that want to re-define history and society to conform to their own tiny limited agenda driven world.
