As in....will you be downloading W10?

Spiritedsub2 -> RE: You gonna do 10? (7/20/2015 6:13:56 PM)

I'm afraid to! I can just see chaos and carnage on my hard drive.

I heard 3 months ago that Win10 would be covered "so long as you own your device".

Now I hear it's 10 years.

I have 2 laptops....gonna try it on one....I'll let the masses know.

DerangedUnit -> RE: You gonna do 10? (7/21/2015 12:17:56 AM)

I plan on trying it on the one I currently have 8.1 on. I'll leave 7 figure I can just wipe it and reinstall 8.1 if it's too much.

needlesandpins -> RE: You gonna do 10? (7/21/2015 4:41:51 AM)

I've already said no. Strangely, i clicked no, my laptop installed updates, and then ended up fried. i'm only online thanks to a fairy godmother. My other laptop was only 5 years old, and had had work done on it already. I'm not risking this one.

I might try it on my laptop, but im quite content with 7 on my desktop and I dont like 8.1 on my laptop, bloody interfering POS.

I work in a GM dealership, and every time I open TIS2WEB, in big red letters, capitalized, DO NOT INSTALL WINDOWS10 .

How bad is it that when I saw just the thread title, I automatically thought it was about "pulling a train".

DerangedUnit -> RE: You gonna do 10? (7/31/2015 2:31:15 PM)

I ended up deciding against it.... which in coming years will make gaming difficult im guessing but it is just way too invasive.... I'll run it through a virtual machine once I have to

PeonForHer -> RE: You gonna do 10? (8/1/2015 6:25:54 PM)

From what I heard recently the whole point of W10 being a freebie is that you'll then want to buy lots of MS programs to put on it. Up till I heard this, I thought, 'yes, freebie!' .... Now, I'm wondering if I'll be able to run all my current programs on it. And even if I *could* run them, I'm presuming I'll still have to spend days installing them. I just can't be bothered with that whole tedium all over again. My W7 works fine for me and now the major part of me thinks, 'It ain't broke, so why fix it?'

MsLadySue -> RE: You gonna do 10? (8/1/2015 9:42:05 PM)

I recently read that Solitaire and Minesweeper that come installed with 10 are full of advertisements. If you want to get rid of the ads you actually have to pay by the month or yearly.
No thanks. Just more money grabbing by Microsoft.

Windows NT 4 was the last non invasive mostly no bullshit kernel. No forced IE browser, no plug & play, not designed to fail with software or firmware that didn't pat to get licensed with Microsoft. I figure what the hell, we have already been screwed since 1996, why not let them shove it in a little more? Yes, I am going with 10.

I hear Microsoft are coming out with a new vacuum cleaner. They say it will be the only thing they ever made that didn't suck....

ROFL

Thank you. I needed that after the blue moon effect. That's my story anyway.

MiaCastle -> RE: You gonna do 10? (8/2/2015 12:14:30 AM)

I have done a lot of reading about win10 and I will move to new computers and operating systems. This may have some neat tricks, but it is a trick. It is invasive, you will have MS crawling up your tail pipe, knowing far too much about your life and your friends and family and I won't let any entity that close much less MS. They screw you over and over again and you just keep crawling back because Apple costs so much. This is the final f you.

You will eventually pay per month for some of that software. Writing program? Try buying the 360 or 365 whatever it is. You will buy it per year or by the month. What happens if you miss a payment?

Your personal sweetheart that looks more human than any other will know more than your wife or husband. Now if you have a nice wife or husband, that's all good, but what if you want a divorce? This bot has the keys to your whole world and gets to know more about you the more you whisper in her ear.

Welcome to this wonderful world, where we can connect you to everything you will ever need, just sell us your soul. I'd go offline before I would welcome win10 into my life. I may just have to. lol

MercTech -> RE: You gonna do 10? (8/2/2015 7:28:11 AM)

I'm rather convinced that most users would really prefer XP with an updated kernel. All the mucking with the GUI to make it prettier but much less functional is tiresome.

Win10 will go on the one Win8 box I have. It couldn't suck much worse.

If I could run xp with my system, I would in a heartbeat.

focalss -> RE: You gonna do 10? (8/2/2015 9:01:01 AM)

I tried to run XP as long as I could but had to stop. I will run W7 as long as I can. I never got Linux to run what I need. What hurt me about W7 was that my printer and some of my software didn't work with it.

With W10 on the way I think that whatever I buy I am going to look for linux versions or drivers in the box, both hardware and software, in the future. I have no intention of buying a computer and having to pay Microsoft rent to use an operating system every year for the same computer. I don't see the subscription model working for home users. I also prefer or need a real computer, not a tablet or smart phone to do my work on.

Lucylastic -> RE: You gonna do 10? (8/2/2015 9:13:49 AM)

Most of the programs I use on a daily basis have been around for years, since 95 some of them. I use them in my business, ive kept up to the updates, but they havent yet....come out with 64 versions.

focalss -> RE: You gonna do 10? (8/2/2015 9:33:00 AM)

I was having a lot of problems using my XP machine for daily things incuding the internet so I had to go to a new computer. Also my printers tend to go before the computer but if I didn't have to switch I wouldn't have. Eventually I know that my browser, Firefox, won't work as well with the internet if everyone is on W10 or tablets or android, and I will need to upgrade. At that point I'm sure there will be computers packaged with W10 whose price I can't beat with no operating system loaded. 32 to 64 was a jump that not hardware or software was compatible with I undestand that so maybe W7 will last for a whle.

I have used W3.1. 95, XP, and now 7 also Vista but not for work. I skipped the others or didn't need them. I was on XP for maybe 9-10 years. I do give MS credit in general for making a product easier to use but I believe its time the manufacturers make Linux versions and drivers easier for regular users. MS will have problems, I never liked Word or Office. I have alternatives and I like Firefox better than IE. I also never went to a touch screen and I don't think Voice Recognition is needed for what I do, 75% web and word processing.
