I'm currently using 8.1 which is far better than 8. Although I did have 8 rigged to get around a lot of it's BS.

I admit I loved my XP and really hated having to upgrade.

I am waiting on 10 to hear what others have to say.

It does beg the question: WTF happened to 9? Was it *that* bad? Shesh. THAT does not give me confidence in 10.

focalss -> RE: You gonna do 10? (8/2/2015 10:56:14 AM)

There were problems with "9" due to Windows 95 having a 9 in it from what I read.

As in....will you be downloading W10?

Nope.

captive4ever -> RE: You gonna do 10? (8/2/2015 11:12:48 AM)

AS Jimmy Fallon said last night, Windows,7,8,9... (seven ate nine!)

But I do question Microsoft's numbering systems... Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One. Is that some sort of statistics sequence?

I hear Microsoft are coming out with a new vacuum cleaner. They say it will be the only thing they ever made that didn't suck....

Brilliant! Thanks so much. [:)]

Now we really know why 6 is afraid of 7?

i have windows 7 (so it is free for me, right?) so yeah, probably but i will wait for them to work out the bugs first(!!!) and until after i get a second computer.. just in case.. having a second (desktop) computer is always a good idea, imo.. I am gonna build my own computer this time so i get what i want without all the crap manufacturers put in it..

LookieNoNookie -> RE: You gonna do 10? (8/4/2015 4:19:09 PM)

I got the desired "here ya go" link....and it told me "there are no supporting networking devices".

Been connecting to my office network for 5 years...got plenty of networking "devices"...using Win7/64/laptop/1 TB HD etc....

Guess I'll wait until they find a solution to the above.

Looks good as to everything I've seen.

RockaRolla -> RE: You gonna do 10? (8/5/2015 12:52:14 PM)

I just did the upgrade. Didn't see a lot of reasons why not, other than the typical "It must be bad because it's from Microsoft!"

I like it so far. They brought back the start menu, so no more of that "you should be using a touchscreen and this would work SO MUCH BETTER" nonsense. The one annoying thing is that they put IE back on my computer, though it's now a more amusingly-named "Microsoft Edge." Not that I'm using a ton of energy removing it again.

The big reason im not upgrading is that Windows updates are automatic and forced. For people that use graphics cards this is a big no no. Just last year a Windows update collided with my amd card and caused my laptop to self destruct.... took a lot of effort rebuilding a dual boot that Windows tried to overwrite. With my desktops nvidia card problems have already been shown.... its actually leading to quite the war.... http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/198964-dx12-confirmed-as-windows-10-exclusive-amd-and-nvidia-go-head-to-head win10 shouldnt be a problem for most people, after all most people like facebook and they are trying to make windows more like facebook. You get your own advertising id and permit them to read your email and have access to everything you do in the name of keeping everyone safe.... all well and good until someone decides to make something you do illegal like oh whipping people for example, then you're fucked because everything you've ever said and every picture you've ever taken already are in the hands of the prosecution.... of course you can turn most of that off.... if people actually remember to do it. http://lifehacker.com/what-windows-10s-privacy-nightmare-settings-actually-1722267229

Yep so you might as well wait until they zone out all other forms of windows... by which time wine might have caught up and be able to manage all games anyways. Right now it's basically a waiting game to see what happens with nvidia

LookieNoNookie -> RE: You gonna do 10? (8/6/2015 5:24:01 PM)

Microsoft just announced that....the shit they left out...you can have (video player...other) for $9.95 a month.

I was (once) a Microsoft fan boy.

No longer.

Spiritedsub2 -> RE: You gonna do 10? (8/6/2015 6:23:05 PM)

And $15 a year for the formerly free solitaire game!

Did they put the windows back in windows?

By biggest bitch with Win8 was that the "apps" took over the whole screen; you could not window them. I also jut have a grouchy old fart moment with the term "app". "App" is appropriate for the shaky small format programming for a tiny portable device. For a full size computer I want "application programs" that actually work in concert with other "application programs".

YES... and Windows 10 is awesome. It is a combination of the best features from Windows 7, Windows 8 and a Smart Phone. By default you have the regular old 7 style desktop and task bar with multiple desktops. We got the start button back and it pops up a combo menu. You get a mini version of the Windows 8 live tiles and a side bar with some 7 style features like recent programs, pinned programs and an 'all apps' menu.

Unlike 8, it is easier to navigate and it comes with Cortina, just like you Smart Phone, you can verbally (or type) ask it to open programs, set reminders, display the weather, find local pizza delivery, do currency conversions etc and it all happens right in the start menu area.
