U.S. imposes new sanctions on Russia

The Obama administration on Monday ratcheted up its punishment of Russia for what it called continuing provocations in Ukraine... The new measures froze the assets of seven Russian individuals and 17 companies associated with them, and prohibited any U.S. dealings with them. All were identified as closely linked to Russian President Vladimir Putin... The European Union said it would expand its sanctions list to include 15 more individuals. Some U.S. lawmakers and Ukrainian politicians decried the actions as too weak and called for immediate, full-scale sanctions against the Russian banking and energy sectors.

Ukrainian poll fail: 84% would entrust Putin to lead Ukraine

A new information tragedy in Ukraine. It started so innocently: the nationally conscious patriotic website Nedelya.ua organized a survey. The question was: which politician would you entrust with governing your country? 41,664 votes were cast. The results were a knock-out blow for the organizers -- a full and crushing victory for Vladimir Putin. Treason! Let's look at the results:
    Putin: 84% (34,905 votes)
    Lukashenko: 5% (2032)
    Xi Jinping 2% (820)
    Zhirinovskiy 2% (708)
    Poroshenko 1% (538)
    Merkel 1% (430)
    Marie Le Pen 1% (426)
    Nazarbayev 1% (318)
    Obama 1% (244)
    Timoshenko 0% (176)
    Lyashko 0% (170)
    Yatsenyuk 0% (158)
    Kolomoysky 0% (150)
    Simonenko 0% (130)
    Kuchma 0% (86)
    Yanukovych 0% (116)
    Tigipko 0% (76)
    Kravchuk 0% (32)
    Yushchenko 0% (32)
Not for the first time, I find myself wondering yet again if U.S. foreign policy has any connection with reality.

Its not a good idea to show your hand of cards at any point during 'the game'. A little bit here, and little bit there, is not noticed to much. Yet over time, those little bits start adding up. For most people it doesn't show up on their radars. But those that handle financial and economic issues understand it all to well. Prices increase because the rate of supply decreases even though demand stays the same or increases. That creates problems for leading and trailing economic indicators. By the time the population 'feels it' things are a bit to late to change around. That will lead to unrest within Russia. Those in political power will start to find their foundation crumbling due to angry citizens.

This is something that takes time to play out. Watching the effects is like watching an incoming wave at the beach. You do not realize just how much kinetic force is behind it until just moments before it hits you in the water. That is what will happen in Russia. And there are plenty of people I'm sure trying to get Putin to change his stance and viewpoints.

Who cast the votes? Pro-Putin people? Where was the survey held? Pro-Putin areas? How was the counting of surveys conducted? By Pro-Putin people?

If you get the idea I don't take the survey seriously, its because there are many unanswered questions. Where any of those surveyed intimidated or threaten on their answers? Again, we dont know how this survey was conducted.

Its like watching FOX 'news' during election coverage. They place the GOP in the best positive light and Democrats in the worst. They were the ones that said Romney would not only win, but win by a landslide in 2012. They down played several of the President's accomplishments and even a State of the Union speech for reporting on pig farmers. Same thing in the Ukraine. People are trying to push Putin and will try any number of ways to do so. So the question becomes "How much credibility does the news organization have with this survey"?. Since any tampering to push a political agenda will under cut things quickly.

I can only assume we (the US) froze the assets of those individuals/companies that were held in US banks, right? I understand that group can no longer do business with the US.

What gives us the right to do that?

What sort of "full-scale sanctions" can we put on the Russian banking and energy sectors? Prohibit Russian banks from having any business with US banks or US citizens? Prohibit the US and any US citizen/business from purchasing energy from Russia? What if a US-based international company had a location in Russia? Are they not going to be allowed to partake of the Russian banking and energy services?

What gives us the right to do that?

comrade bird brain---I trust your memory about as well as I respect your critical thinking and intellectual honesty, which is to say not at all. a reference for both of your lame comments above would be good but im not holding my breath on that.

and while we are waiting for that---analyses of candidate coverage during presidential elections show fox to be the most balanced when it comes to amount of time devoted to candidates, and the amount of positive/negative statements concerning them. you can either look that up, or continue to be a shameless partisan hack.

as far as placing the gop in the best positive light and the democrats in the worst just in general, its pretty clear from that statement you actually don't watch fox news. they don't actually do that and there is plenty of praise, criticism and representation for both sides of the aisle.

lastly Einstein---when you say "fox news" and "they" concerning Romney winning by a landslide---fox news has hundreds of people working at it and many dozens of online news anchors, commentators/analysts, guests, etc, and they come from all political stripes (again if you actually watched fox you would know that), so who (since you still cant figure this out, please notice the proper use of "who" again) exactly is "they?" who is the one monolithic voice that speaks for fox? (see, its not "whom is the one...") or did all the tv personalities, not to mention all the behind the scenes people and executives, somehow magically find themselves in agreement on Romney's landslide victory? the point being, there isn't one, such that you could say what you did.

itd be so nice if you could wise up and stop writing your leftist drivel.

MercTech -> RE: Deaf, Dumb, and Blind (8/2/2015 7:53:32 AM)

The last time the U.S. decided to ignore the results of a vote for someone they didn't like; it was called The Vietnam Conflict. South Vietnam had voted to join with North Vietnam under Ho Chi Minh and that was unacceptable to the political clique running South Vietnam and the U.S. Administration.

The Ukraine went to war attempting to join with Russia back in the 1840s and was invaded by French, British, and Ottoman aggressors to force the Ukraine to be separate from Russia.

Is it our business to interfere in the internal government of the Ukraine just because we don't want the Russian government to have access to the shipyards at Sevastopol or control of the Siberian Oil Pipeline that crosses the Ukraine?

Dick Morris made a huge commotion about a landslide often on fox. Hannity took him to task for it the night their hope died, for fooling the pollsters.

If you watched election night on fox, you can count on brett beir, karl rove, megyn kelley, and the other dangle ons. there is a nice lil page of the reality of fox going thru seven stages of grief over the results coming in.

Sara Palin of course was certain of a landslide and had a meltdown the night Obama won, thank gawd in this debacle of a presidential elections the only one who has seen palin is the trumpster.
Monolithic voice would be Murdoch.

Too many people in power want war with iran, this is just gonna get their dicks hard.

MrRodgers -> RE: Deaf, Dumb, and Blind (8/3/2015 5:45:07 PM)

Look the fight over Ukraine is to determine who is going to be their lenders/suppliers, western industry, the western banking cartel or Putin and his business/banking cronies.

The winner gets to suck billion$ if not trillion$ of wealth out of Ukrainian labor, through either agric. energy or technology and likely...all 3.

Next question. How does the western banking cartel hit Putin the hardest ? By cutting Russia out of the Intl. Bank of Settlements like they did Iran. That will take some real 'financial courage' because there is so much more profit at risk. The billionaires would really have to suck-it-up and deal with a few less billion$. As with most financial undertakings...they have the staying power.

As for Ukrainian politics, the people and a peaceful transition...who fucking cares.

Bounty, you are a foolishly dimwitted fellow with nothing useful to contribute to soceity; EXCEPT, to serve as an example of what sort of concepts we Americans need to denounce.

Next time the Democrats win the Oval Office (sooner than later), watch FOX 'news'. Go on youtube and look up the 2012 election on FOX 'news'. It was amusing to watch the conservative become bullshit that their candidate not only didnt win, but win in a landslide as they pushed in their propaganda. Megan Kelley had to walk down to the 'egg heads' and consult with them over the issue. They stated without a small likelihood that Romney was going to win. Go ahead, look it up; I'm not afraid with what you'll find. But you are! Because that would blow holes in your sad, excuse for an argument.

Actually I do watch FOX 'news'. Most of their material is like the Drudge Report; fear.....Fear......FEARRRRR!!!!!! Because conservatives are motivated by fear for some strange and odd reason. How many read the ACA in the last five years its been law? About 0.0001% of the population. How many are scared about what it does? All of them! Including yourself! Or are you going to ignore all the threads in which I had to correct your baseless and ignorant attacks with the facts from the law? How about that Iran Treaty? Only 159 pages long. Very easy to read and understand. But its to complicated for you. Better for you to be ignorant and controlled by others, right?

Actually if you objective look at US History as it pertains to US Elections, you'll find many people outside conservative circles that pegged President Obama to win. Nate Silverman predicted both the percentage of votes in each state and which state would go to which person. He placed it on his blog a few weeks before the election. He and others did the number crunching on about a few million possible outcomes. The grand majority point to Obama winning. The only times he didn't win? He was dead. That wasn't to promising for the Romney camp.

Watch the clips from cnn, fox, or even msnbc when states were being called. The GOP/TP got very positive when they took an initial lead over Obama. And it was short lived. I remember it like it was yesterday! The only people left completely in the dark over the final results were 'low information voters' whom coincidentally were conservative in their political viewpoints.

Go ahead, research it. The facts as they say, are the facts. And you have neither the facts nor the evidence on your side. Therefore you result in petty name calling.
