Another blurb from my homepage...

As an American who gets tired of hearing Europeans bash the US I won't deny this lifted my spirits a little. I'm hoping for a full and speedy recovery for those injured.

http://home.core.com/home/article.php?category=breaking&article=224c7b0f515f4830a8876857249212c5

well, updated reuters news says that the guy was homeless and hungry and just wanting to rob wealthy passengers to buy food..

""(I saw) somebody who was very sick, somebody very weakened physically, as if he suffered from malnutrition, very, very thin and very haggard," David told BFMTV.

"He is dumbfounded by the terrorist motives attributed to his action," she added.

David said the man was barefoot and wore only a hospital shirt and boxer shorts for the police interrogation in Arras, northern France, where the train stopped after the incident."

http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/08/23/france-train-shots-lawyer-idUSL5N10Y0FE20150823

but hey, it makes a bigger news if they say he was a "suspected terrorist".. Well, the good news for him is that he will be getting free meals now.. and I guess a court will determine if he was trying to rob people or if he is really a terrorist..

Are their no 7-11's... are there not gas stations over there? If he was a poor hungry innocent victim of capitalism why not rob something a little easier to get away with... not smuggle a automatic rifle...pistol... and box cutter on a train that you can't just step off of.

What silly crap to even suggest this.... not you tj... but your source.

How did a homeless French guy get an AK? I thought they had tough gun laws.

I have no idea if there are 7-11s there or not.. maybe he was thinking of those movies where the gun tote'n dude would have a kerchief over his lower face, wear a cowboy hat and tell the train passengers to put all their money and valuables in a bag as he passed by, then jump off the train with his bag of loot.. If the guy was indeed hungry/starving, then he probably wasnt thinking all that straight in the first place.. I have read that France does not treat immigrants from the mid-east very well at all (a lot of social discontent there, apparently) so being hungry/starving is certainly a possibility.. If he is indeed a terrorist then try him as one, if he is really a starving robber then try him as that..

My problem is that media and govts (all of them, not just the US) slap the label of "terrorist" too easily and with an extremely broad brush stroke.. and I find that the first/early reports of any news event is full of inaccuracies, biased, slanted or totally wrong, so i dont believe everything/anything I read... "news" today is more opinion than actual fact, it seems..

Besides, if he was Islamist he couldn't be a terrorist, Islam is THE religion of peace.

I find it hard to believe that in a country such as France that there isn't a church, temple, mosque, soup kitchen, or homeless shelter somewhere where he could have gotten a meal. Being hungry is certainly a desperate situation but in this case, I don't buy it. If you're going to rob someone then that's what you do. You don't typically shoot them first then hope you have time to go through their pockets. I think he was motivated by something else. But whether or not he is actually a terrorist is outside my intention to judge.

yabbut have you taken a look at your own homeless population (here in the US) lately? There are plenty of hungry homeless here too.. how are they supposed to get to said soup kitchen, homeless shelter, etc? that in itself is not an easy task and riding the bus costs money too.. I have seen people lined up around the block at these places, for food or shelter and if you get there too late you are sol.. and this guy in France, maybe he doesnt even speak french so there could be a language barrier as well which would make it even harder to get food/shelter/help..

There was a french dude that tried to get the gun away prior to the Marines tackling him.. if this guys intent was to kill people, why is that french dude still alive?

But that said, I dont know what the real story is, guess that will be left to the courts to determine..

eta- I wonder if there were security cameras on the train and an actual recording of the whole thing..

No one has told us how a homeless man got two firearms, IN FRANCE, he couldn't have gotten them legally in the US where leftist insist that the NRA passes them out on street corners. Now if he had terrorist connections that would explain it.
