I am not sure why some people feel that they must always "surgar coat" their displeasure.

I included a hyperlink in the post

Google the numbers yourself though. Not much point trying to deny mass atroocities committed by governments against civilian populations through recent history, is there?

Thank you for the link.
This is something the author of the book thought was necessary to add.

"There are therefore many items in my references that no self-respecting scholar would list normally. I include them because I use their estimates and not because I believe them objective or of high quality."

There is no point in trying to deny mass atroscities committed by governments against civilian populations through recent history as you so clearly demonstrated with your earlier allusion to Jackson and Hitler.

The way this sort of thread usually goes is that someone will make a point about guns. And then all the gunsters, hitherto utterly interested, will turn up to complain about anti-gun people "making political capital" out of this "tragic event", whereas they, the gunsters, want to do the much more noble thing of expressing their deep remorse and extending their sympathies to the families of the victims (as though said families will give a swivelling rat's anus about said sympathies, even if they were to learn of them). Once all this blubbering and emoting is over with, everything will go quiet till the next shooting. But, oh me lordy, god help anyone who uses the issue to talk about gun control. That is making "political capital".

This didn't happen here on this thread, though. Instead, a few rightie nutcases started talking about banning Islamic flags and snorting about 'The Religion of Peace"..

Just interesting. :-)

■ More Americans die in gun homicides and suicides every six months than have died in the last 25 years in every terrorist attack and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq combined.

■ More Americans have died from guns in the United States since 1968 than on battlefields of all the wars in American history.

■ American children are 14 times as likely to die from guns as children in other developed countries, according to David Hemenway, a Harvard professor and author of an excellent book on firearm safety.

Joe tried to with his usual drivel about the corruption of the 2nd and in the next post CB accepts your invitation to make an anti gun post. Hope that makes you feel better. This guy represented black racism which the left doesn't want to admit exists. He represented gays who we are told are helpless victims. And he was one of those all knowing journalists. Banning the Confederate battle flag was considered a reasonable suggestion, why isn't banning the gay pride flag and the pan African flag just as reasonable.

Talk about derailing.

Par for the course for some on the right on here.

No doubt the heads will stay buried in the sand before stating the same bollocks next time there is a shooting tradegy.

Still bullshit... that figure includes suicides which account for half the total... if not by gun then they would have used other means... I am for more gun control but using skewed statistic is disingenuous.

Actually well over half of "gun deaths" are suicides.

It has proved so for those coming to my house looking for trouble.

JVoV -> RE: TV news reporter and cameraman shot and killed. (8/27/2015 9:03:57 PM)

The number of deaths due to drug poisoning is still more than by gun fire in the US. Drugs are outlawed completely, or extremely controlled by pharmacists, doctors, and responsible patients.

Yet we keep funding the war on drugs, which supports, finances, and contributes to many of the gun deaths each year as well.

Motor vehicles still cause more deaths than guns each year too. And this is before we add in the number of people suffering permanent damage and injury which will require a lifetime of medications.
