Lucy I try to be an equal opportunity name shortener. I also answer to dickhead, dick, etc. But back to the thread. I still think that the Govt is trying to waste a good mind and she should be offered a visa with full scholarship (by maybe Trump or Scoros) here in the US. She'd be much better off for the rest of her life.

This thread is one reason I do not take part much in the forums here. One post and 17 flames.....wow what a ratio.

And it always seems to be the same old faces...

Where are the moderators?

I backed off the boards myself a bit, it seemed like there were multiple flaming for every one on topic post. But these last few days things have taken a real turn for the better, until now anyway.

Anyway, back to topic. I don't understand what all the fuss is about the OP? I mean, at first glance I can see how it could be interpreted as negative against the girl, maybe because of wording. But the comments coupled with the article make it pretty clear Ken is of the opinion that this girl has suffered an injustice. And I don't see anything erroneous about the statistics statement either.

I understand why you feel this particular situation... regarding the topic. Why dont you open up a crowdfund for her to help her reach her goals....do something useful with your time. So many people fall thru cracks for reasons most of us cant comprehend.

You have tried to excuse your calling out of male subs... It doesnt work.
I will continue to remind you that belittling subs merely for their "orientation" is a shit thing to do.

Sub your "snidey digs" aren't appriciated by anyone. They detract from the point. Take up space. And in general piss people off. If that is your intent, maybe you should report yourself to the mods for remedial action.

You made the crap assertion in the OP, you need to own it, since I only passed comment on what you wrote.

Yeah I read it.

Obviously not very closely.

What appears to be corruption isn't allowing a bright young student from moving forward (most probably because of her sex or religion although the article didn't say).

Those of us who read the article know that it said it was corruption and not bias in both of the cases cited in the article. You really need to stop making shit up.

OK so I take it then that you are in favor of the discrimination against this young lady with a brilliant mind because of some reason as was done by their government. This girls mind is being wasted.

its sad that misnamed in uk, instead of saying "im sorry ken, I misunderstood what you were saying", doubles down even after it was brought to his attention by you, me, and ds. its a good illustration on how self-justification is our greatest talent.

for my part, id much rather be talking about the content, ideas, beliefs questions, etc, but when I see someone wrongly accused and treated shabbily, i'll make a point of calling out that poster and chastising them for it. I know I don't feel particularly great doing it and I wonder sometimes if that's the best approach as opposed to ignoring them altogether or treating them gently.

that said, there are plenty of civil discussions going on all over the forum with people of wildly differing social-political worldviews, but at the same time, there are indeed people here whose raison d'etre seems to be vulgar, to insult or "one-up" others. ive got a half dozen of them on hide for that very reason.

Except that it might not be.
From the article: "And several prominent Egyptians have stepped forward with offers of funding for her further education."

However, without that option (and until someone actually steps up and provides her with the money it hasn't actually happened yet) her dreams of going to medical school were shredded.

Here's hoping that plan B comes through for her and others who have been likewise robbed of a bright future.

Kens post was incorrect as the poor girl had no chance of scoring any points due to cheating. Does this make me feel superior to you.....nope you manage to do that with your own stupid posts.

Ken was correct. His post was about her brain being wasted by the cheaters taking her grades away from her. Her options have been limited by the cheating.
I don't see how you didn't take that understanding from his posts.

FFS whats up with some of you....... His Op mentioned statistics, the link had nothing to do with statistics. My post was the second on the page, ergo I was answering an incorrect OP.

LMAO!!! What the fuck is up with you?!? He stated it's a statistical impossibility for a top ranked student to get 0% on 7 tests. Surely you can understand that would mean he thought there was some sort of foul play going on, can't you?

IOW, in his analysis of the article, there had to be some sort of cheating going on because it's just not possible for that gal to get a 0% on 7 tests. The "another mind wasted" comment was very likely directly commenting on the claims by her parents (which were in the article) that her goals and aspirations have been dashed by this cheating.

Reading his drivel, I have long since given up understanding what he meant. If he felt there was an important point to be made (and there clearly is) he should have just said so.

I didn't say you said it. I said it was my intrepretation. If I am wrong, then so be it. Intrepretation isn't being childish, it is an analysis of what was said. And until/if this young lady gets to go to college it is still a waste of her mind.

I gotcha now. You didn't read for understanding. You just read the article and assumed his stance.

Next time, you might want to read for understanding, Ps.

And yet other posters understood what he was saying. But go ahead and blame him for your lack of reading comprehension. I'm sure no one would expect you to admit you might have made a mistake.
