Forget the ads and classifieds. You live in LA...home of just about anything off the wall or non-conformist. You need to check out TNG (The Next Generation) and, I just saw "How To Meet the Dominant Woman of Your Dreams" which is a lecture being offered at the "Den of Iniquity " in LA tomorrow night ($20 in advance...and use your own money. Well, since we're being nice now (although the OP doesn't have the same effect on me as he does on you), I will concur that the OP needs to create a fetlife account.

The advantage of a fetlife account (as everyone else here knows - so - the rest of you - just ignore this post), for you, Mr. OP, is that Fetlife gives you a plethora of groups to join (such as "BBW Dommes in LA who Love Hung Bois" or "Submissive Men in LA Who Enjoy Pet Play" or whatever strikes your fancy), and, Fetlife then basically spams you to death with all sorts of events that are of a stated interest to you.

If LA is anything like the SF Bay Area, there will be at least two or three events each week within an hour's driving distance, and, at least one every couple of weeks within a few miles of your house.

End result: Join Fetlife. (I assume almost everyone here is on FetLife so they can correct me if I didn't describe it well for the kid.)

I tried that a few times now and it just won't work for me so I gave up on it.
So every time someone posts a link to a Fet entry, I can't view it.
I don't belong to any social media sites either so FB links are also something I can't see.

Yeah, I thought that was something that everyone just did. I have never gotten any unwanted emails from there.

Well, first off, the ad from this site, she was young and hot. I mean she was drop dead gorgeous. She said she lived close by and after our meeting from Starbucks we will go straight to her apartment. She said her girlfriend might join us too. I believed her. I don't know what else to say.

Cliff Notes:
1. It was an AD. Meaning "Marketing a product".
2. When marketing you use the most enticing photos and verbiage to make a sale.
3. When marketing, you offer something aspirational, such as "my girlfriend might join us".
4. Ads work by creating an offer that some people buy without doing research.

That pretty much sums up my philosophy.

Getting to know people takes time, lots of it. Somehow people think that a profile, which is basically an advert, gives to a better idea of what someone is like than seeing them in a crowded bar. For some reason they think that a well filled out facebook profile is a window on the soul. It's a disease of the modern age.

People only show what they want to show online, just like in " real" life. There's nothing wrong with that. It just depends how much you want to risk.

I think the OP got away lightly in that he just lost money (hopefully his and not his mother's). Luckily he didn't find himself in a more dangerous position, face to face with someone he didn't know, presumably not having told his parents he was going to meet someone, who could turn out to be male or female, for potentially risky BDSM activities.

Hey, we all live and learn. Hopefully by hanging around here for a while, he will learn from others, rather than having to learn far more painfully his mistakes.

Otherwise, you claim to be 18, which means you grew up with the internet as a utility like the phone on the wall was for me. So you have absolutely no excuse for being unaware of internet scams. The only other possibility I can see is that you are severely learning disabled, which means that you should not be using the internet at all without either direct supervision or some form of internet protection software like Net Nanny.
