Yep. My first hit when I googled it was the stoneware, or earthenware, or whatever it was. It was a pot.

It sounds bad to say but at least it wasn't just me. I mean, I know my google-fu is weak and all, but dang.

That's odd. The first of 7,590,000 entries that I got was Wiki that I quoted from.

Though saying that, I've seen a lot of people not getting results from Google recently on a variety of subjects.
Methinks that somewhere along the line it's being filtered. I know Bing and various other search engines out there are filtered but so far (touch wood) my Google has never been.
I can understand that from people living in places like Greta does and in the far east and those where the people are governed by megalomaniac dictators that don't want their populace to know the truth.
But in our western world? Shouldn't happen IMHO.

Well I tried to post a screen cap but couldn't get it to show properly. But my first hit out of 7,750,000 was "an earthenware cooking container". And that was google, which for general topics is normally mo 'go-to'.

I drink it hot in the winter.
My fave sammichs are peanut butter and marmite.
I put it on the bread when I grill ham and cheese on toast.
It goes into stews and casseroles and soups for added 'beefiness'.
I love marmite!

I spread it sparingly on bread. Didn't even know you could drink it.

just boil water, pour it in a cup and add a third of a teaspoon and stir... add more or less to taste:)

A peanut butter & Marmite sammich with a hot cup of marmite to drink sounds pretty tasty. After all this food talk I made myself sammich of multi grain hearth bread, Marmite and sour cream. Yuppers, a hearty bread that stands up to the salty and sweet creamy toppings is awesome stuff I tell ya'.

So, it goes with sandwiches and certain drinks?

freedomdwarf1 -> RE: What happened? (9/27/2015 10:53:46 AM)

It goes with a lot of things.
But it's a love-it or hate-it sort of food.
Hence the saying: it's a marmite thing. lol.

I use it on bread, crackers, in soups and stews... all manner of foods.
Imagine a beefy version of anchovies - it's a bit like that.
I hate anchovies but love marmite. [:D]

That's a pretty good description. Thank you.

FR

Marmite was devised by Third Reich scientists as a way to break British morale during the war. Spies smuggled it onto the sceptr'd isle, and Luftwaffe pilots dropped jars of it over towns and cities.

The plan was that the British, already keeping calm and carrying on through relentless air raids and stiff upper-lipping it as they juggled ration coupons to feed the family, would finally crack as grim reality sank in: "Dear God, we've sunk to eating this!"

Didn't work out that way, thanks to the Brits' perverse palates. Yep, they loved the stuff.

DesFIP -> RE: What happened? (9/29/2015 8:13:42 PM)

I just looked it up and got the reference to the spreads.

As far as I can tell, the cooking pot bears a striking resemblance to a New England bean pot.

Of which I own two, one an antique collected by my late mil, and one for which I had to buy various cans of baked beans and mail in the label 30 years ago. It was the last time I bought a can of Boston Baked Beans.
