A measure of native intelligence goes a long way on these forums. So does manning up.

There are some serious idiots here too.

So your bright idea was to ask complete strangers what other complete strangers meant instead of asking those people directly? Yeah, you really put a lot of thought into that.

Why did you not make that clear in the beginning, and perhaps give an example of what it is you don't understand? Why do you still not make it clear what you are asking?

Inane questions are always going to illicit the kind of responses you have gotten.

My taboo is giving time to people who ask questions, receive any number of good answers then turn around to cast dispersions on those who answered by calling them assholes. I'll break it just this once though.

I can't imagine why, at least, "my" answer didn't make sence [sic].
However, I thought some of the other answers were more apropos than mine was, albeit, some were, as you noted, hilariously nonsensical.

These days, not having a tattoo anywhere on your body qualifies.

Given the Urban Dictionary meaning that I dutifully dug up for the OP, I suspect, simply not having a tattoo of a GOAT, would fit the provision, would it not?

too sacred or too accursed for ordinary individuals to undertake,

This meaning does delve into the nuance, that it's "too" something for "normal" individuals. I agree.

The "typical" reason people use in their profiles is to indicate an interest in those things that are not even wholly accepted even in the BDSM community--water sports, scat/brown play, incest...

This seems apropos.

I think it's terribly funny when someone asks a vague question, gets vague answers, gets offended and then blames everyone else for their failure.

Actually, they got vague answers and specific answers.
They're still offended.
Maybe they didn't like the answers?

Taboo - Polynesian word meaning against the mores and customs of the tribe as handed down by the gods.

Or, if you go for an alternative spelling:

Are you asking about taboo as a verb, noun or adjective... it is all three of these things. That is why the first reply with a link to the dictionary was the correct answer to your undefined and unanswerable question. Click that dictionary link and look it up.

O help me there's always this: http://www.britannica.com/topic/taboo-sociology

(I get angry because when I was that age I didn't have enough money to get access to that kind of information.)

When people start to forge their own "defination" of a word there is no telling of what they want to say unless you get to know them better. I am famous for being able to speak Björn ...

PS: Using "taboo" as a verb should be tabooed.

Sickipedia taboo jokes...

And as soon as I'm done, I'll get started on that list.

Still no clue as to what the word actually means. But have fun eating human flesh. It is said to taste like chicken. I would recommend a threesome with your mother and your sister while you consume it.

I find it hard to justify using "Taboo".
I suppose it really ought to be confined to illegal non consensual things and therefor has no place here.

Should we assume these things for you are considered taboo? You had your answer all along.

Me? No way, I do it all the time! I was just hoping that by giving an extreme example people could have a glimpse of what the word actually means.

I know, I read Freud in the original who still seems kind of the authority on the subject. I find it funny when someone posts a question like "What is a tomato?" and people respond "For me it is something that is round and red or maybe green and tastes kind of funny."

For some, something Taboo (forbidden, off limits, not socially accepted) is the thrill which is why you are probably seeing it on a BDSM and other fetish sites.

For example:

Someone raised to believe in White Supremacy might find having a relationship with anyone of color or ethnicity not their own a Taboo. The fact that they see it as a taboo, might be the appeal for them and why they are seeking it.

I'm with you on this one; it's most likely "to a boo", or, abbreviated colloquially, "t'a boo".

Are these really the best replies i can get. No one can just answer it

The word taboo is in every dictionary you've ever seen through every year of school you've ever been in. If you don't want to go to free online dictionary sites like Dictionary.com, invest in a paperback dictionary...they're at The Dollar Tree for only a buck.

You have mail with the reply you were looking for. (It's possible you might need to look up some new words.)

I disagree that Freud had more notion of its meaning than any other person of his (or our) time. Unless applied as a general rule of coexistence it's subject to individual interpretation. The cannibalistic and incestuous examples you give aren't necessarily definitive.
Enjoy your family dining experience with mom and sis. Don't forget the chianti.
