cloudboy -> Catholic Justices Scalia, Alito, Thomas are no-shows for the pope (9/24/2015 8:22:24 PM)

That strikes me as kind of unbelievable that these jurists have such a small comfort zone.

• A son of immigrants reminded a nation of immigrants not to hate those who seek a better life in a new country.

• A lover of the land implored the land of the free to protect and restore its great natural bounty, a common home imperiled by human excess.

• John Boehner wept.

• “I am convinced that we can make a difference,” said Francis, on climate change. “Now is the time for courageous action and strategies aimed at implementing a culture of care.”

You don't know why they didn't attend, and neither does your source, so what strikes me as unbelieveable (without the "kind of") is your pretense to mind-reading.

Obviously their Catholic faith is such that it didn't inspire them too attend.

And in other news, the Pope decided to hang out with poor children rather than meet with Nancy Pelosi.

Is there a point to this thread?

If the point you are making is that a man who wears a dress would rather be with children than a grown woman.

They were busy trying to figure out ways to destroy the US Constitution. Failing that, give reinterpretations of laws that favored a conservative-nazi slant to things. They got to corrupt the system before someone finds out....

Maybe we should question them. And not cease in that questioning (e.g. interrogation) until their answers match up to what our agenda demands. Isn't that the conservative mantra these days?

Oh...it is....

"Twice in two days, Pope Francis has made vague and brief references to the on-going abuse and cover up crisis, mentioning the pain of church staff but not the pain of abused children and betrayed parishioners. He refuses to even call the scandal by its name."

Yeah, the guy's a peach.. I wonder how many times he knew about abuses but turned a blind eye to it...

eta- this pedophile priest's victim has protested daily outside the Vatican embassy for years.. I wonder if this Pope (or any Pope) has even acknowledged him..

Fewer times then conservatives did on torturing 'enemy combatants' in Guantanamo Bay in full violation of the 8th amendment. The US Constitution states the power, reach, and limit of all persons found under its control. Did the US Government control the area those prisoners were in? Yes. Therefore, those prisoners, regardless of status, were protected under the 8th amendment. Which means, they were protected from cruel and unusual punishment.

I would expect a BDSM forum of individuals to understand the difference between SM and torture. Apparently the conservatives on this board never learned that concept....

Yes, many conservatives state how they uphold the US Constitution; but only when it serves their political purpose. If they actually held up the US Constitution, George W. Bush would not only have been impeached, but removed from office itself. Then, we would have had to impeach Dick Cheney and removed him from office.

Since none of that happened, conservatives are...FULL...OF...SHIT!

That continues to be your argument and yet, your adored President has never brought anyone up on charges. Could it be he understands the concept of "what's sometimes necessary" better than you?

As for the Pope turning away fewer times, nice try...but he has ALWAYS turned a blind eye to the priests involved.

I'm Catholic, and stiffing the POPE is a big deal. I can't imagine it, and it had to be deliberate avoidance.

I'm Catholic...

one of the major differences between the catholic church and the protestant Christian churches is the emphasis on papal/church authority and teaching when it comes to beliefs.

at what point, when someone is in blatant and direct opposition to the church positions (pro-life and against homosexuality/gay marriage in particular) does one cease to be a catholic? otherwise, at some point, being catholic simply means the church you (probably only sometimes) go to despite the lack of harmony in worldviews.
