How about some ARMS FACTS for a change?

Gun-Haters Seize the Moment

Leftist anti-gun zealots in D.C., N.Y. and L.A. should admit, once and for all, what they really want: the outlawing of privately-owned firearms by American citizens.

“Over the past five years, there’s been a steady increase in firearms sales and concealed carry permits. Plus, more people that have never owned a gun are also purchasing them for the first time.

Yet, during this same period, the violent crime rate has steadily decreased.

“These numbers clearly point out that it was a myth to begin with when the gun prohibition lobby claimed that more weapons in private hands would lead to more crime.

When asked why certain groups can’t seem to connect the dots, Workman replied, “The progressive mindset is one of denial.

Without an evolution of thought or a process of maturity, they can’t deal in a logical adult way with proof that everything they believed about guns being bad was wrong.
The core of their foundations would be shaken to the ground.”

Workman pointed out, “Following Australia’s Port Arthur Massacre, authorities confiscated a majority of guns. Of course, shortly thereafter homicides shot through the roof.

Gun Sales Increase, Florida Violence Declines

In mid-December, Florida surpassed the one million mark for concealed carry permits. Even though one in every 17 Floridians now holds a permit allowing them to carry a concealed firearm—with 55% of them being over 50 years of age—the Florida Department of Law Enforcement has reported: “The overall violent crime rate has had a significant decrease of 56.7% [from] 1991 to 2011. Florida’s population increased 43% during that period.”

Florida is undeniably a safer place, as are its law-abiding citizens, especially since the 2005 passage of what is known as “stand your ground” legislation.

Chicago Sees Huge Spike in Crime

• Increase in homicides, violence related to strict anti-gun laws

Yet for all his anti-gun bluster, Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Obama’s former chief of staff, has been a dismal failure. As The American Spectator, a conservative-oriented news magazine, noted on July 24, “If more gun control is all it takes to prevent tragedies, then Chicago ought to be the safest city in the United States as it has had the strictest municipal gun laws in the country for the past 30 years.”

GUN SAFETY FACTS

The National Self-Defense Survey—one of the most comprehensive studies of U.S. firearms and violence ever done—conducted by Florida State University criminologists in 1994 found the following:

• The rate of defensive gun use can be projected nationwide to be approximately 2.5 million per year—one defensive gun use for every 13 seconds.

• Among 15.7% of gun defenders interviewed nationwide during the National Self Defense Survey the defender believed that someone “almost certainly” would have died had the gun not been used for protection—a life saved by a privately held gun about once every 1.3 minutes. In another 14.2% of cases the defender believed someone “probably” would have died if the gun hadn’t been used in defense.

• In 83.5% of these successful gun defenses the attacker either threatened or used force first—disproving the longstanding myth that legal gun owners are more likely to initiate violence.

• In 91.7% of these incidents the defensive use of a gun did not wound or kill the criminal attacker. In 64.2% of these gun defense cases the police learned of the defense, which means that the media could also find out and report on them if they chose to.

• In 73.4% of these gun-defense incidents, the attacker was a stranger to the intended victim. Defenses against a family member or intimate were rare—well under 10%. This disproves the myth that a gun kept for defense will most likely be used against a family member or someone you love.

• In over half of these gun-defense incidents the defender was facing two or more attackers—and three or more attackers in over 25% of these cases. No means of defense other than a firearm—martial arts, pepper spray or stun guns—gives a potential victim a decent chance of getting away uninjured when facing multiple attackers.

• In 79.7% of these gun defenses the defender used a concealable handgun. 25% of gun defenses occurred away from the defender’s home.

Concealed Carrying Air Force Vet Held Back From Stopping Attack By UCC Staff
on October 2, 2015 at 9:47 am × comments

Air Force veteran John Parker, who had a licensed concealed carry gun on his side, was was situated in a building about 200 yards away from where the shooting began at Umpqua Community College yesterday. Instead of taking down the active shooter, Parker was prevented by staff from intervening in the shooting in which ten people were killed.

“There were a few people in the vet center and then when we heard the shooting happened, we got up and we were gonna go out and see what we could do,” Parker told Fox News’ Sean Hannity.

“Immediately the school staff stopped us and told us to get inside of the building….essentially the staff wouldn’t let us go to assist,” he added.

While UCC does have a security guard, Joe Olson–the former president of Umpqua Community College–says the school only keeps one guard on shift at a time and that guard is unarmed.

Breitbart News previously reported that the Umpqua campus is a gun free zone, and former U.S. Marshal Art Roderick suggested the gunman chose the campus for that very reason. He said, “[The gunman] probably knew that the facility was a gun free facility, [which is] an easy target for these kinds of coward individuals. They know they’re not going to get any response unless they happen to run into security or a campus police officer.”. […]

What I posted above are only the incidents where thugs wound up dead and hit the news. Most never get reported because simply brandishing a weapon will scare off most thugs except for the rambo crowd.

1 incident before those my glasses were fogged over and I couldn't see till too late to pull my weapon and take the safety off. Result I got mugged. Police reports 1, police effectiveness 0.

Its seems that the real wack jobs are those who are trumpeting greater gun control, since its proven time and time again that more armed citizens means less crime.

It seems the crazies who advocate greater gun control live in an upside down world of delusion and are using that delusion in an attempt to peck away at our right to defend ourselves?

What drives that anyway? Some political agenda or pure delusion?

Try telling that weird ass-backwards logic to every other first-world country where it is proven beyond doubt (by several orders of magnitude) that more guns mean more gun deaths per capita than anywhere else - even more than some war zones.

When the US manage to get anywhere near the levels of the rest of the civilized world, maybe that mantra would fit.
Until then, it is something the US have been striving to achieve for many decades - and failed miserably.

http://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/more-guns-more-dead-cops-study-finds-n409356

Police officers are most likely to be killed in states where the most people own guns, a new study finds.

The report is sure to be controversial, but it adds a new dimension to a conversation that's recently been focused more on police shootings of unarmed Americans.

This study looks at who's killing the cops, and it's overwhelmingly people with private guns, David Swedler of the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health found.

"OFFICERS ARE THREE TIMES MORE LIKELY TO BE MURDERED ON THE JOB IN HIGH GUN OWNERSHIP STATES IN COMPARISON WITH LOW GUN OWNERSHIP STATES. THAT WAS THE BIG WOW FOR ME."

"If we're interested in protecting police officers, we need to look at what's killing them, and what's killing them is guns," says Swedler.

Swedler's team used the FBI's Uniformed Crime Reporting database to check on all homicides of law enforcement officers between 1996 and 2010. They used a giant survey called the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System to get data on gun ownership.

Their findings: The No. 1 cause of on-the-job death for police is motor vehicle accidents. But gun deaths came second, they reported in the American Journal of Public Health.

"We were not surprised to find that firearm ownership is associated with homicide rates," Swedler told NBC news.

"The big surprise finding to me was the differences in homicide rates among officers in states with the lowest gun ownership compared to states with highest gun ownership," he added.

Thats great rhetoric that says nothing substantial.

Switzerland at 50% ownership is the only country reasonably comparible to ours 90% ownership and they have about 1/3rd as many 'gun' homicides. Switzerland also has a fully trained militia and everyone is required to go through training.

The numbers do not remotely add up to your rhetorical conclusions.

What you said is as meaningless as saying we have more cars so we have more car accidents.

Just the other day my handgun ran out and shot a police officer. I treated her with respect, kept her clean, kept her well-fed, but my handgun started hanging out with the wrong crowd: my neighbor's car, which was recently convicted of drunk driving, and my spoons, which are making me fat.

Police officers are most likely to be killed in states where the most people own guns, a new study finds.

Methods. We obtained the number LEOs killed from 1996 to 2010 from a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) database. We calculated homicide rates per state as the number of officers killed per number of LEOs per state, obtained from another FBI database. We obtained the mean household firearm ownership for each state from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System.

Results. Using Poisson regression and controlling for factors known to affect homicide rates, we associated firearm ownership with the homicide rates for LEOs (incidence rate ratio = 1.044; P = .005); our results were supported by cross-sectional and longitudinal sensitivity analyses. LEO homicide rates were 3 times higher in states with high firearm ownership compared with states with low firearm ownership.

Conclusions. High public gun ownership is a risk for occupational mortality for LEOs in the United States. States could consider methods for reducing firearm ownership as a way to reduce occupational deaths of LEOs.

This kind of shit is a perversion of science to political ends. Correlation does not establish causation. There are numerous factors that could influence both rates of household gun ownership and officer fatalities, none of which are controlled, and the study doesn't even distinguish between legally owned firearms and officers killed with illegal guns. It's also not clear how they obtained data on household firearms ownership from the BRFSS, because they couldn't have.

BRFSS Modules by State by Data

Questions on household firearm ownership were only included in the BRFSS in 2001, 2002, and 2004... Because the BRFSS firearm data were only available for 3 years, we also collected a proxy of firearm ownership. The Web-based Injury Statistics Query and Reporting System reports data on completed suicides in the United States. Firearm suicides as a percent of all suicides has been used as an annual measure of firearm ownership rate. ~Source

The rest isn't much better.
