ORIGINAL: crumpets I'm actually very sorry I spent a minute looking at YOUR profile about 10 minutes ago. I really am. I'm gonna start being nice to you SIMPLY BECAUSE you're a beautiful woman. If I'm lucky, I'll forget about having seen your profile, and I'll get back to just responding to what you write here in the forum. Yeah, forget the profiles. In fact, if that's the case, stop looking at profiles. But there's a difference between remembering somebody based on their profile, and based on the general impression of their words. I don't remember a thing from your profile, but I remember stuff about you, such as your Asperger, the fact that you used to be very active in various male dominated sports, and that you're currently feeling insecure about your weight and body. Those things aren't irrelevant to your words, in fact they give color and context to what you are sayings. If other people were operating like you are, you would basically have to preface everything you say, every time you post, with: "I have Asperger" because it's the only way your words contextually make sense. Yes yes, I understand, you don't read the names, you don't care, you only care about the words. Except that it doesn't work like that for anybody else on this board. People's words are based on their familiarity with you. A person who feels they have a sense that they 'know' you is going to interact with you in a different way than a person who doesn't know anything about you. Likewise, people are going to assume in conversation that you have the background about them that they know they already told you. So rather than repeating themselves, they're going to assume you already have the context needed to make sense of their words, and skip a whole bunch of relevant and necessary subtext. You're screwing up your own information gathering by not building a history built to the names of what people have said, because the longer you're here, the more people are going to not explicitly spell out stuff because they assume "he already knows that" and less usable information you're going to be able to get from their posts. This might not be the case for more other regular forums you attend, or your work environment, because all of those places are technically focused. But this forum is socially focused, and you are here, according to you, to learn to understand women better. You're not going to be able to do that if you don't build a mental image of what the persona of people posting here is like, because a lot of social subtext that you're here for is going to get lost because people assume "he know, already been said". None of the information you're looking for here is empirical, and so, cold scientific isolated fact gathering isn't going to get you there. quote:

ORIGINAL: UllrsIshtar And it's not a matter of remembering profiles... it's remembering past conversations you've had with that "identity". While, for purposes of good form, I never post to the same thread with different identities (except sometimes, by sheer mistake), my posting style is about as unique as any - and I don't try to disguise it - so - anyone worth their salt can find all my identities pretty easily (even my dog profiles). I didn't mean a multiple profile identity. I meant a mental map you have of your image of what the person speaking is like, based on your previous interactions with them and their previous words. For this purpose, Alpha, Joker, and Hakim are all the same "identity" because it's the same person typing their posts. quote:
ORIGINAL: crumpets The majority of the people here wouldn't have had the brains to figure that out (witness, for example, poster #38 above by way of classic case). Don't be too sure about that. Unlike you, I do have a mental map of him (one that goes back years in fact), that combined with the mental map I've built of you these past few weeks, my money is on him.
