i guess the difference is in the way the term wannabe is used - one begging/going crooked for it as opposed to working their way. 'wannabe' is horny; 'want to be' is excited.

wannabe is also a word trown at anyone one do not like as a way of discrediting often quite serious pepole and cause pain.

often it is discussed that you cannot become a dominant or a submissive... you simply are one (speaking of one's mindset) to those who lean toward this thinking, they may view those who "act out" these roles as the wannabe type Wannabe is also associated with misrepresentation. The thing you speak of... that we all were once... would be the similar word that is often used... newbie.

Wannabe is a negative term, meant to be used for people who have no real desire to honestly learn and educate themselves about wiitwd. Some people have begun using the term for anyone that doesn't agree with them or refuses them or whatever. Those are the people who are wrong, not the term. A new person is a new person, or newbie, not a wannabe. That said, does it truly matter whether some jerk calls you a name?

Everyone starts as a beginner hence newbie. Everyone is NOT a wannabe - usually a clueless male jerk or horny net geek HNG or even troll. Was is and always will be a derogatory term. In chatrooms they are disruptive little trolls.

[;)] to Jessy to the OP bring your manors, bring your curiosity, bring you common sense, bring your open mind, and bring your sense of adventure....and if some one calls you a wannabe, know that they are sort of folks that prefer to point fingers and call names to make themselves feel important. and know too, that there are other sorts of folks, folks who see new people making mistakes, or missing some points and that they prefer to quietly reach out a hand, or offer advice. They are not as easy to spot, because they dont make a big show of it like the finger pointers love to do, but they are out there if you look for 'em

imo one kind of wannabe is someone who comes to places like collar me and pretends to be the learned submissive or the well trained slave but their only intention is to get their kicks or to emotionally hurt others that may believe them and want to help them in their journey. Of course i also know that it's not just ones that pretend to be subs and slaves , there are also ones parading as Dominants out there too. I

AND, there are those newbies who even after a period of time of being exposed to the right information but apparently think it doesn't apply to them and who have the wherewithall to attract newbies to where they are. They are merely wannabes and not even newbies, but they think they know everything. And the newbies get the wrong information given by the wannabes, and even the more experienced ones go there to avail themselves of the location - but then they are physically and/or emotionally injured by the wannabes who don't follow their own rules of safety and protocol and decorum. That's when they lose their more experienced ones who really do want to help the newbies. The comforting thing is that more of the experienced ones see the wannabes for what they are. And that gives WIITWD a bad name.

Dear bondageluver, Ladies and Gentlemen; At one time, "want to be" wasn't a dirty phrase. In my personal observations, people want to be [insert dreams, desires, goals]. Since then it has been twisted into "wannabe" and turned into a 'negative.' Frankly, how people write the term 'want to be' vs. 'wannabe' is how I attempt to place it as an insult or as a sincere desire to be. That said, I will say that it is really sad to see people who really want to be [insert Dom/sub, etc] are subjected to vile treatment by people who use to be in the same position once, from 'want to be' into 'newbie.' Pity, the ones who are professed experts and use the phrase as to destroy, control, disrespect, defile and corrupt the community's support, accepting all without bias/prejudice based on rumor, gossip and or personality conflicts. However, there are those who claim many years in the scene, may be a leader or what-not, that in my mind's eye still clearly qualify as a poser/gamer/player and or, control/wanker/HNG that points fingers to others as a 'wannabe' but, indeed in truth, they are still a 'wannabe' themselves. I find such individuals that cannot control their own lives, so they have to control other's. Just a thought for consideration. Respectfully submitted for consideration, Lady Hugs

Newbie = someone new. Everyone's a newbie at some time. Wannabe = someone who wants to be something, but they aren't quite there yet and maybe never will be, maybe they will... but usually calling someone a "Wannabe" implies you doubt they'll ever get there and it has a negative tone. They might suprise us!! I personally feel that when misrepresentation comes into play we are dealing with: Poser = the idiot who has a Dom profile saying they are a true Dom and a Slave profile saying they are a true hetero Slave and a Gay profile saying they are only looking for men, when all they are is a HNG wanker child opportunist trying to cover as much ground as possible. The "successful professional" living in his parents basement, the 25 year old who lists his age as 35, the young man in Tustin who has pictures of a Model posted on one of his many fake profiles. Posers, fakes, users, opportunistic liars. HNG wankers. Someone "Posing" deliberately as something they are NOT. I only hold the poser in contempt. They know they are not what they pretend to be, and making no attempt to become it. That is a deliberate lie and misrepresentation. There is no place for that in wiitwd, this is about Trust and you can never trust a Poser. A newbie and wannabe I have hope for :)

In many ways (most, truthfully) I am very much a newbie to the "structured" D/s world, but I have never been called a wannabe (in the negative sense). It is rather interesting, however, how many subs are called such merely because they are standoffish about the lifestyle or a particular Dom/Master. I agree with everyone that said we all start out as newbies. Just because my heart and soul are submissive and always have been doesn't make me an expert in the field... and just because I am "new" to the formal structure of D/s doesn't make me a wannabe... it makes me willing to be... and wanting to be... huge difference.
